] Date Posted: 06/29/08 7:57:09pm I will be in Providence with my two children in August and wonder if Prudence Island is a place for activities such as hiking or swimming. It looks like a beautiful, peaceful place but I can't seem to find anything on the internet that says what visitors go there to do in the summer. Thank you! Date Posted: 07/16/08 10:14:18am You typically go to Prudence to relax, ride bikes, float around in the water, step back in time, enjoy nature and relax some more. One fun thing we found was letterboxing. There are 2 hidden on the island. Check out letterboxing.org for more info on that. We bring buckets, shovels - all beach stuff and catch ( and release) lots of crabs, minnows - whatever we can! No restaurants or tourist stuff so go to Newport is that is what you prefer. Date Posted: 07/31/08 8:01:46pm We have vacationed on PI every summer since 1993. One basic requirement - plan on entertaining your family with swimmmimg hiking or just relaxing. Other than Marcie's general store and Freddies "market" there are no "commercial" facilities on PI. Walking trails criss cross the island are well marked and maintained by volunteers. Check everybody for ticks upon returning to your cottage. Visiting the old cemetary, the Indian spring, the narragansett bay research center are interesting. Best swimming is at "sandy beach" on the islands northern end facing the SW. Also good are the beach nearby the lighthouse at Sandy Point and the small (but middy at low tide) beach at the T dock. Good fishing off of the T dock and the stone dock. This years Fireman's Fair is Saturday 16 Aug. Meeting the ferry arrival appears to be a hobby enjoyed by the "locals" Regards, Tony & Vi [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 08/27/08 11:46:10pm So if I want to just spend a day, show my kids where I played a little one (if I remember how to get there), I can take them fishing and swimming even if I am not a resident? Also are there "facilities" there, my kids are quite young and need them if we spend a day there. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 09/ 3/08 2:09:53pm you do not have to be a resident to come here. this is not a private island. you should watch "storm of the century" during a snow storm on prudence island. maybe this year will get hit with a noreaster. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
