Hand on heart I can say that Dave never had a hand in any song I wrote, to be a writer you have to have a heart and a soul,so that rules Dave out.
When I wrote a new song for the DC5 I would phone Dave and he would bring Mike Smith over, they would listen to the song as I played and sung it, the Dave would say 'yes or no' (he never said no, every song I wrote the Band recorded either as a single, a 'B' side, or as an album filler). Dave would then leave my house and go shopping or go for a walk or back to his flat (apartment) to do some phoning and leave Mike and I to work out a key that would be suitable for Mike to sing it in, I nearly always wrote in the key of 'C' as it suited my voice, Mike had a higher voice and would sing in keys like 'F', 'A' or 'G'. When we had this done (it did not take long), Mike and I would 'Jam' on my Piano and sing all our old favourite songs by Artist like 'Jerry Lee Lewis', 'Fats Domino, 'Carl Perkins' and others.
Dave never stayed around while we were sorting out the key, he said we were talking in a strange language (music) and he could not understand what we were saying. We told him it would take an hour or so just so we could have some fun playing and singing together.
Dave was a great businessman, but he could not write a song even if you put a gun to his head!
