I just heard Marty Bass say that we ARE getting snow this weekend. He said expect it to start around noon on Saturday and end around noon on Sunday. Expect 6 to 12 inches. Those that live in the Baltimore area and north lean more towards the 12 inches. Those that live south like around Laurel lean more towards 6 inches!

Well, looks like we didn't get as much as was expected. I'm ready for my usual weekend trip to the grocery store. Stacy, you can get right back out on your scooter now! (Assuming, of course, that you have a heated snow suit.) Looks like a good day to do donuts in a parking lot somewhere!

I may be crazy but I'm not THAT crazy! At least not on a scooter!

I'm glad we didn't get as much snow as they were calling for. I always have to dig out an area for the babies for when nature calls.

Sorry to hear about your Dad. Have you found out what they are going to give him this time around? I'm sure the news was quite disappointing for him and your mother.

My uncle isn't doing so well. I'm not sure of all the details yet but I don't think the chemo has helped him much. I think they are at a point where they are going to decide if he's even going to continue with treatment. I have to find out the details. He's the one with prostate and lung cancer.

I had a message from my mom today. She said the V.A. has agreed to provide the new chemo drug. My parents are covered by Medicare, and a supplement through Blue Cross/Blue Shield, but they wouldn't pay for the drug because it's a pill, and they consider it "outpatient" treatment. But since my dad was in the Navy during WWII, he sometimes goes to the V.A. medical center in his area. He'll be able to get the new drug (I still can't remember the name of it) that way--in fact, my mom said they were on their way out the door to get it. They're VERY happy, because this is definitely the doctor's first choice for treatment. So my dad will be doing as you're doing--taking pills at home each day, rather than going to the hospital and getting an I.V. each week. They'll do a scan after three months to check progress, as they did last time.

What a relief for all of you! That is wonderful news!! I know it is VERY expensive and I don't know how people do it that aren't covered by an insurance company. I know my pills for two weeks cost around $1,300 and fortunately I only have to pay around $50 for a copay.

I don't know how your father will respond but so far I have minimal side effects with my pills. Hopefully he will be as fortunate as I have been.

...legal ones, of course!

My dad FINALLY got his drug. He got it through the V.A., and sometimes the bureaucracy moves slowly. The drug is called Tarceva--have you heard of that one? It was just approved by the FDA in November. I'm not sure what the possible side effects are (I think my mom said that one of them could be diarrhea!), but I hope they're not too serious. Taxol worked well on Dad's cancer last year, but since it caused nerve damage in his feet, the doc doesn't want to use it again for fear that the damage would become permanent. Obviously, we're hoping the new stuff works well for him.
