Just remember ---- she has always been in God's hands. It's the devil wearing you down, don't satisy him.

Have you tried "CANCER TREATMENT CENTERS OF AMERICA"? This is the main link to it: (you'll probably have to cut and paste the link.)

http://www.cancercenter.com/

I keep them in the back of my mind. They have cured people that were given up on.

I have also heard good things about the doctors in Greece. A friend of mines wife had cancer. Since she was originally from Greece she was eager to try it. So she went to Greece, was treated, never lost her hair, and has never had any problems since then.

Try cutting the pills in halves or in quarters. If they are time release don't break them without checking with her doctor first.

Also at the top of my web page, there is a link to a book called "JOURNEY THROUGH LOVING EYES. You may get some comfort from the book. There is a charge for the book but I in no way make any money for advertising. Al, the author, is a friend of mine.

Hope that info helps in some way.

Stacy

Thanks for the good luck wish for today. I always get nervous when I have to hear results about my brain! I'm nervous to hear if I have to get the Gamma Knife too.

I'd like to be able to be a bit brighter in that crayon box. I'm only taking one of the Morphines now. It's the slow release one that I take once every twelve hours. So I get a "hit" of it every few hours.

As for the liquid morphine that I take every 3 hours I don't have to drink it anyore if I don't to want to anymore. And I don't want to.

My short term memory is getting worse. I can't remember who I say what to and if I said anything at all. My tremors are back. And so is the "nodding off". All that may be because I was taking 2 kinds of morphine everyday since June 18th.

I sure miss driving that wagon.

Thanks for checking in on me and wishing me well. It always makes my day when you check on me!

I love you too!

Bad chest pains woke me up Saturday morning. They continued to be there and got worse throughout the day. Everything I did made the pain worse. Nothing relieved it. Just taking five steps was painful. When I would bend over forward the pain got a lot worse and radiated up the left side of my next into my jaw and even two left molars.

Saturday evening was the Relay for Life where I was to be the motivational speaker and I did not want to miss that. Being bull-headed, I did not call the doctor. Plus I knew I had a CT scan Monday to check the progress of the chemo. I really enjoyed being the speaker and I am glad I went.

TRACEY AND ME (she asked me to be the speaker

ME CHECKING MY NOTES

GIVING MY SPEECH

ME AND MOM

When I woke up Sunday, I felt a little better so I went ahead and went shopping with my Mom and Aunt Nancy. As the day progressed the pain worsened. When we finally got home, my Mom vacuumed the living room and dining room then she was going to leave. I asked her to stay because the pain was bad enough at that point I wanted to call my doctor. Dr. Hahn was not on call but one of his associates was. She told me to go to the Emergency Room. It may have been my heart, a blood clot in my lungs, or maybe even the current blood clot in the Superior Vena Cava moving, or any of a number of other things. Therefore, I asked my Mom to take me so she did. Throughout the weekend, I had several tests. Lots of blood work, a chest x-ray, an EKG, and a CT scan with dye (even though I am allergic to the CT scan dye. They did a great job of pre-medicating me so I did not have any problems.

They put me on two different kinds of Morphine for pain. One I can take every three hours as needed and the other one is stronger and is slow-releasing. I am to take that every twelve hours whether I feel I need it or not.

I did not get hardly any rest while I was there because of pain plus there was an 80-something year old woman down the hall that would scream all night long and part of the day. She has dementia but was there for an infection. She about drove me and everyone else nuts.

The blood-work came back showing no signs of heart attack enzymes but I am anemic from the chemo. The x-ray did not show any fractures and the EKG came back normal.

My doctor, Dr. Hahn, came to see me twice and released me at noon today. Mom and I ran around to different places to get my prescriptions filled. One place was Good Samaritan. We found out my pharmacy only has one of the Morphines. Knowing I had been getting the other one while I was admitted I went back to get it refilled. I stopped in to see Jeanette, my chemo nurse. Dr. Hahn saw me there and asked me to come into his office.

Dr. Hahn needed to tell me that the CT scan came back with bad news. The good news was that the pain had nothing to do with my heart. My heart is fine. However, the cancer is all growing again and the doctor thinks it is the cancer growing causing the pain. I will be changing chemo drugs again. He wants to see me on June 22nd for a follow-up and to set up scheduling of the new drugs. Again it’s two drugs but this time I will go three times a week then go back every 21 days to start the regiment again. I will have better details after I see him on the 22nd.

Oh my, you have had some more trying times. It sure did sound like you were having heart problems when I was reading through your message. In the first paragraph I said to myself, "She is having a heart attack!" Then continued to read that you were able to go to the relay. I sure looks like you moved people. Can see Tracy upset. I wish I could 'hear' your story instead of having to read about it. You have given me hope. I did say "oh @##$%." when i read on about your CT results. Its like, haven't you been through enough.
One the new routine of chemo, will you have to stay at the hospital for the three days?
I keep thinking I will be like you in a few years because of my similarity to you. However----- You would have to put me on morphine to even think about speaking in front of peope. Oh my gosh. haaaa haaaa haaaa How can you do it???? But It sure did look like you made in impact.
You will have to let us know more about what type of chemo, how long it takes for the procedure, etc. when you find out.
I'm trying to send you little angels to help you along.

On another note, I am still working 8-1 everyday as an office assistant] But this week, I learned how to put on a control module, fuel pump, and fuel filter on my husband's pickup. I watched how he got them off, and then I proceeded to put new ones back on. I may be getting older, but I am still learning. So who said, you can't teach an old dog new tricks. haaa haaa

I will still be thinking of you.

The ONLY reason that I didn't call the doctor sooner is because of the American Cancer Society's Relay for life. I was asked by someone very special to me (Tracey) to speak. I couldn't say no or change my special plans by going to a hospital for myself. I figured I could go that night if I had to. I know, I know, I heard it a hundred times that I should have gone sooner. Why bother when they can't get your treatment right, they can't decide which tests to run and worst of the ER doctor was reading someone else's bloodwork thinking it's yours to my face. It's a good thing I ALWAYS ask for my blood work. When I started reading the results I started noticing incorrect information. Like they had me down for reason for visit as "asthma" nothing about chest pain. Then my social security number and phone number were wrong. Fortunately I got my nurse that I've had before in chemo. He's a rotating nurse that goes where he's needed. When I was in triage I specifcally requested Martin if he was there. Thank God he was. I showed him the the blood work. Guess we'll have to start over with you., he said.

Yes, sometimes I definitely feel like I've been through enough. It's just making me stronger, right. I miss going to the doctors office and hearing ONLY good news. I'm glad to hear good news even if I have to bad news along with it. But I'd really like to hear good news.

Tracey and numerous others told me I brought tears to their eyes. I was proud of that. I wasn't expecting the feedback that I got especially since I didn't remember to say one of the most important things on the list. The speaking part was the easiest part for me. I had to host a lot of training sessions, meetings, refresher training when I worked. I used to be scared to death. As long as I know the subject matter, I'm okay with it.

Yes, sometimes I definitely feel like I've been through enough. It's just making me stronger, right. I miss going to the doctors office and hearing ONLY good news. I'm glad to hear good news even if I have to bad news along with it. But I'd really like to hear good news. I see Dr. Hahn this Thursday, June 22nd to see what's going on with the new masses in my brain. I guess I'll find out if he wants to send me to go talk to a guy at John's Hopkins Hospital to talk about the Gamma Knife procecure. I'm sure we will also discuss the process for the next two drugs I'll on.

Sorry for writing a book here. But I haven't talked to you for a while and wanted to catch up.

Geez, I hate hearing lesss-than-good news from you. It reminds me of a guy out in the ocean, fishing for marlin. He hooks one, and fights it, and almost has it to the boat when it makes another run. So he has to fight it back to the boat again. But if he has good equipment, and he doesn't give up, he'll eventually win the fight.

So are you getting your wagon out very often?

1. No plastic containers in micro.

2. No water bottles in freezer.

3. No plastic wrap in microwave.

Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well.

Dioxin chemicals cause cancer, especially breast cancer.

Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies. Do not freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.

Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us.

He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body.

Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex, or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper is not bad but you do not know what is in the paper. It is just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc.

He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.

Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.

Cover food with a paper towel instead.

My critters are doing fine although their mommy has a lung infection. Between that and chemo all I want to do is sleep.

One of the turles died this week. I was so disappointed. I think they are cool. They aren't the snapping turtles that every knows. However, depending on how you hold them they will stretch their neck and try to bite you. That only happened a couple times but they didn't get me.

Other than that I have very few reptiles left. I sold most of them to a store after I got out of the hospital last year. And the ones I caught around here I just let go. I still have 2 Oregon Newts and 3 lizards. I REALLY miss my box turtles. I should have sold the lizards and kept the box turtles. Charlie had SO MUCH personality. I miss him chasing the female turtles around the tank. Plus they were just cool to feed. They got to a point I could hand feed them.

Heard Gail is moving to Texas. We see Uncle William and Mildred occasionally. We really need to see them more often. I always enjoy myself when we go.

Love you and GB,
Casey Jones

How's that new baby? I bet you're exhausted all the time. Hopefully Dana helps out a lot.

I've been SOOOO tired. Between the drugs, chemo, and infection I can barely stay awake. Plus something I'm taking, I think it's one of the chemo drugs makes me vomit after about an hour after I eat. No particular foods, just at random. And usually very little warning. That's a nuisance.

The infection is somewhat better but I still have the cough.

I'm so glad to hear I'm still in your prayers. I don't hear that as much anymore. And I could really use some extra prayers these days.

I have chemo this Thursday.

I was so excited yesterday. I found a box turtle!! I really miss the ones I let go last year. I've named her June. That was my mom's idea since I found her in June.

The American Cancer Society is sponsoring the RELAY FOR LIFE this year. Here are the details:

Saturday June 10th
6:30 pm
Dundalk Community College

I've been asked to be a motivational speaker there. Since my x-nurse asked me to, I am honored she asked so I'll be there.

I think the walkers walk around a track then there's a reception.

Directions:
695 toward Dundlak
Take Merritt Blvd Exit
At the Holabird/Wise Ave intersection take a right (not Holabird)

Yes, I went to BSR day in my wagon and NO I didn't race it LOL!!! I took a friend of mine with me. Thank God she wanted to go. I was so beat because I couldn't get any sleep Friday night. She did all my video taping for me. She had a blast, she'll probably go again sometime. I was surprised I didn't see you yesterday especially since I saw Jack.

Actually I have an infection in my lungs. I've been coughing for two weeks and it's getting worse everyday. I talked to my doctor about it last week because my nose was running too. BUT I thought it was probably allergies since there is SO much pollen from the trees in the woods behind me. The coughing keeps me up at night. When I lay down it's worse.

I finally paged my doctor last night and discussed it with him. He said I have an infection. He prescribed an antibiotic and cough suppressant. I took the antibiotic and ended up throwing it up. Guess I can't take that one.

So I got hold of him again today and he prescribed a different one. So far so good!!!

Just an interesting tidbit I came across.

GOOSE BUMPS

Goose bumps (AE), also called goose pimples, goose flesh (BE), chicken skin (Hawaiian Pidgin), or cutis anserina, are the bumps on a person's skin at the base of body hairs which involuntarily develop when a person is cold or experiences strong emotions like fear.

The reflex of producing goose pimples is known as horripilation, piloerection, or the pilomotor reflex. It occurs not only in humans but also in many other mammals; a prominent example are porcupines which raise their quills when threatened.

Goose bumps are created when tiny muscles at the base of each hair, known as arrectores pilorum, contract and pull the hair erect. The reflex is started by the sympathetic nervous system, which is in general responsible for many fight-or-flight responses.

Goose bumps are often a response to cold: in animals covered with fur or hair, the erect hairs trap air to create a layer of insulation. In humans, it can even extend to piloerection (a response to cold or fear ) as a reaction to hearing nails scratch on a chalkboard or listening to awe-inspiring music.

In humans, goose bumps are strongest on the forearms, but also occur on the legs, back, and other areas of the skin that have hair. In some people, they even occur in the face or on the head.

Goose bumps can only occur in mammals, since other animals do not have hair. The term "goose bumps" is therefore misleading: the bumps on the skin of a plucked goose technically do not qualify as piloerection. Birds do however have a similar reflex of raising their feathers in order to keep warm.

Hey Stacy:
I was in Ocean City this weekend--Cruisers Weekend. Actually, my trip had nothing to do with that, but it was a nice bonus! The cars were gathered at the Inlet parking lot. I got a shot from above--taken from the ferris wheel! I'd post it here for you if I knew HTML. It's coming to you via e-mail.

(At one point, Bev saw so much smoke that she thought there was a fire!) Saw quite a few 427 Cobras. Someone had even hot-rodded a golf cart.

Hi Stacy. Just thought I'd say hello, and see how things are going. Having fun with the wagon? You know, there's a car cruise every Friday evening down here on Ritchie Highway, just a mile from my house. They've been there for the past couple years, but it seems to have grown this year. Maybe you should take the wagon through the Harbor Tunnel some Friday evening...and there's a local restaurant right across the street! :)

I'm going to Ocean City this weekend. Hope the weather is good. At the moment, the forecast for Saturday in Ocean City is for mostly sunny skies, high about 70 degrees. I can live with that, since the water is still too cold for swimming anyway.

My mom seems to be enjoying her new home. We're not quite finished yet, but we can do the rest while she's there. I'm not used to having her so close by. I went by a couple times this week, after dinner, to install blinds on her windows. I know you're used to having your mom near you--but for me, it's a big change.

How've you been feeling? How is chemo going?

An Angel says, "Never borrow from the future. If you worry about what may happen tomorrow and it doesn't happen, you have worried in vain. Even if it does happen, you have to worry twice."

1. Pray

2. Go to bed on time.

3. Get up on time so you can start the day unrushed.

4. Say No to projects that won't fit into your time schedule, or that will compromise your mental health.

5. Delegate tasks to capable others.

6. Simplify and unclutter your life.

7. Less is more. (Although one is often not enough, two are often too many.)

8. Allow extra time to do things and to get to places.

9. Pace yourself. Spread out big changes and difficult projects over time; don't lump the hard things all together.

10. Take one day at a time.

11. Separate worries from concerns. If a situation is a concern, find out what God would have you do and let go of the anxiety. If you can't do anything about a situation, forget it.

12. Live within your budget; don't use credit cards for ordinary purchases.

13. Have backups; an extra car key in your wallet, an extra house key buried in the garden, extra stamps, etc.

14. K.M.S. (Keep Mouth Shut). This single piece of advice can prevent an enormous amount of trouble.

15. Do something for the Kid in You everyday.

16. Carry a Bible with you to read while waiting in line.

17. Get enough rest.

18. Eat right.

19. Get organized so everything has its place.

20. Listen to a tape while driving that can help improve your quality of life.

21. Write down thoughts and inspirations.

22. Every day, find time to be alone.

23. Having problems? Talk to God on the spot. Try to nip small problems in the bud. Don't wait until it's time to go to bed to try and pray.

24. Make friends with Godly people.

25. Keep a folder of favorite scriptures on hand.

26. Remember that the shortest bridge between despair and hope is often a good "Thank you Jesus."

27. Laugh.

28. Laugh some more!

29. Take your work seriously, but not yourself at all.

30. Develop a forgiving attitude (most people are doing the best they can).

31. Be kind to unkind people (they probably need it the most).

32. Sit on your ego.

33. Talk less; listen more.

34. Slow down.

35. Remind yourself that you are not the general manager of the universe.

36. Every night before bed, think of one thing you're grateful for that you've never been grateful for before. GOD HAS A WAY OF TURNING THINGS AROUND FOR YOU. "If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31)

It's funny you said that about how I feel about all this. No one has asked me that. I still have the same attitude that I've had all along. As long as there is an option for me, I still plan on being here. I seem to get good news and bad news at the same time.

Like for instance, the bone scan was to see if there was a problem causing head pain. No reason for that in the scan but we found the cancer spread to my hip. Now we know that's an area I need to be careful of. And that can be treated with the same drug I'm already on.

I had the MRI of my head again looking for a problem causing head pain. Again no reason for that in the scan but we found the cancer is back in my brain. But I also found out the full radiation to the brain did a great job. Maybe I can get the Gamma Knife procedure for the new cancer.

I never like hearing about new places it has spread to but I put my self in God's hands long ago and I keep on praying for restored health, strength, and continued determination and will to fight my battle.

The hardest part about all of this is the fatigue. It get's worse all the time. I hate sleeping my days away but sometimes I just have to.

It's great to hear from you and I'm so glad you visited my site. Hope to hear from you again. I sure hope all is well with you and your family!

Subject: 5TH ROUND OF CHEMO AND BRAIN MRI RESULTS

Author:
Stacy
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 23:19:09 04/30/06 Sun

I went to my 5TH ROUND OF CHEMO today. All went well. My friend, Betty, that I met in chemo was supposed to come visit my today. She did not show up but then I found out she has a sore throat and a runny nose. I REALLY APPRECIATE HER CONCERN FOR MY HEALTH BY NOT BRINGING ME SOMETHING THAT COULD MAKE ME SICK. Most people do not think about that.

I had Benedryl with the chemo as usual. It wiped me out today worse than usual. I think it is because of the Valiums from yesterday.

I also received my results from BRAIN MRI. There are two positives and one negative from the results. Most people want to hear THE BAD NEWS FIRST so I will tell you that first.

Although we were looking to figure out why I have been having pains on the left side of my head, it is a good thing I insisted on an MRI. I have 3 new masses in my brain. The doctor is not sure how he wants to handle this yet because I have already had radiation and since it is more than one, I cannot have surgery. Chemo does not work on the brain. Since they are fairly small, he will do another MRI in June to check progress. If they are the same or worse, he will refer me to a neuro-oncologist at Johns Hopkins. Two of the masses are in the cerebellum and one is in the basal ganglia. The cerebellum controls your balance. I have noticed that my balance has been getting worse lately. More like it was after the radiation. The doctor said my symptoms should be from the radiation but I halfway disagree because that had improved a great deal. It has only been lately that it has not been as good.

I AM SO GLAD I LISTEN TO MY OWN BODY. I seem to know it the best! This is not the first time that I insisted on a test to the point the doctors give in. When they do, most of the time they find something that needs attention and it's not for what they were looking for. I always know when something is not right.

In perspective to the entire brain...

Specific problem areas....

AND NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS….

We were originally looking to figure out why I have been having pains on the left side of my head and left ear. The MRI did not show anything related to that. So from his perspective he still thinks it is a reaction from the chemo. “I” believe that it’s muscle related from my neck. I been going to a chiropractor and there is significant improvement. The ear pain is almost gone and the head pain is probably a good 50 to 60% better.

EVEN BETTER NEWS….

The brain MRI showed that 4 out of the 5 original masses in my brain that caused the seizure are completely gone. That would explain (to me at least) why the balance issue was better for a while. And the 5th one in the Occipital Lobe (see above picture to see it’s location and what it controls) shrunk 50%.

The red dots show where the cancer was originally....

A VERY IMPORTANT PIECE OF ADVISE….

Words of advise to people WITHOUT cancer. PLEASE respect your friends and family immunity issues that have any kind of cancer. Most people’s white blood cells (called neutropenia) drop while undergoing chemo and/or radiation. That makes them susceptible to getting sick and it is harder for them to recover. Sometimes they have to hospitalized to be treated. In addition, sometimes they can get pneumonia and possibly die. When white blood cells are destroyed, patients become vulnerable to infections, and even a minor case of the flu can become life threatening.

If you’re not sure if you have a cold, the flu, any infection, or even allergies DO NOT TAKE THE CHANCE by visiting your loved one.

Stacy,

What a shame this news came right after the good news a couple of weeks ago. You are so right to listen to your own body and insist on any tests you feel are needed. Knowing everything is necessary to making the right decisions. Can you have more radiation for these masses? I know you had a reaction to the radiation, but since it was so effective in getting rid of the original spots, can they do it again with precautions that would lessen the side effects?

Hope to see you Wednesday night! Love, Peg

I was just saying to Mom and Aunt Nancy today that it seems like it's been a long time since we've seen you. I'm used to every two weeks or so.

I didn't have a reaction to the radiation, it was a severe allergic reaction to the seizure medicine (Dilantin)called Steven's Johnson Syndrome. My forehead did burn though from radiation and SJS made it worse.

To answer your question, no I cannot have more radiation to the brain since I had radiation to the full brain the last time. One can only have so much radiation in a lifetime.

After the MRI in June, I may be referred to a doctor at John's Hopkins to see if I can have something called Gamma Knife treatments. The Gamma Knife technology can be used to treat those who do not require immediate surgical relief of disabling symptoms and whose tumors are in general 3.5 cm or less. If I end up having to get the Gamma Knife, I'll explain in a later post how it's done.

Sorry to hear about the new masses in the brain (obviously!), but it sounds like the doctor isn't getting all bent out of shape about it at this point.

I'll second your statement about staying away from people in chemo if you have something contagious. We lost my dad last summer not because of the cancer itself, but because he contracted severe pneumonia while undergoing chemotherapy. We don't know how he got it, and I don't want to suggest that someone did something careless, but there's little doubt that his weakened immune system was at the heart of the problem.

The actual MRI went VERY smoothly. I am claustrophobic so I took Valiums before I went to bed and more the morning one hour before the test. So I slept through the whole thing. The only time I'd wake up was when they would take me out of the tube to reposition me for the next next. I had a total of four tests They scanned the left shoulder, then the right shoulder, then they had to scan the brain without dye then scan it again with dye.

I could have cared less about being in there. As soon as I lay down on the table I close my eyes and hope the Valiums take care of the panic. They always do!!

My tests started at 7:00am. I was completely wiped out when we left. Thank GOD Mom took me. I went home around 10:00 or 10:30am. I took my babies outside then I went to bed. I didn't wake up until 3:30 in the afternoon. I had to go up to Bel Air by 5:00. I swear I was still under the influence of the Valiums!!!

Hi Stacy! Just thought I'd drop by and see how you're doing. Seems to me that you've always been one to somehow find the positives in everything you go through. But does chemo seem MORE positive, now that you have evidence that it's working?

I've been working on my mom's place--still. Most of what's left is finish work. I put in her bathroom sink/vanity and medicine cabinet this afternoon. Her furniture has already been moved in, and she's getting boxes out of storage, a few at a time. She'll be moving in very soon.

I guess the side effects are not exactly a picnic. But seeing the results must make it easier. I assume that, after seeing the progress, the plan is: keep doing what we're doing!

My mom is getting excited, I think. She hasn't moved in, but she's been spending a lot of time at the place--especially now, with her stuff being moved in.

I got great news today. I went to see Dr. Hahn to find out my CT Scan results. He told me that most of the masses are SHRINKING!! The largest mass in my lung that has been there since the beginning is dieing from the inside out. It’s forming a cavity in the center of it.

This means the chemo is working!! And the prayers!!

I CAN DO THE DANCING CHICKEN AGAIN!!!!

I also asked Dr. Hahn if I could get an MRI on my head because of the pain I've been having. The Orthopedic Surgeon believes as I do, the that the shoulder pain is probably bursitis. He suggested an MRI of both shoulders. So, I will get an MRI of all three places on Thursday, April 20th.

God is showing that He once again made true his words, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28

Your joy and encouragement are such a blessing to all. I'm so glad that you had good news (not just that Christ lives) but that your tumors are shrinking.

Subject: ROUND 3 OF CHEMO

Author:
Stacy

Date Posted: 09:44:31 04/07/06 Fri

I started the third round of chemo today. I did not get good nights sleep last night so the Benedryl really made me drowsy. I am so glad my Aunt Nancy takes me and brings me home, especially when I get the Benedryl.

The chemo went well. In addition, my friend, Betty, came to visit me during chemo. She is the one that finished chemo last month and had the sweatshirts made for me. She had non-small cell lung cancer. She just had a CT scan and her results were fabulous. There is no sign of the cancer anymore. That is wonderful news and I am SOOOO happy for her. Congratulations to Betty and Carl.

I saw Dr. Hahn yesterday instead of today because he would be off today and tomorrow. I am still having A LOT of head pain. I have also been having a lot of shoulder pain. Dr. Hahn wants me to see an Orthopedic Surgeon on Monday because he feels this is a joint issue, not cancer.

I am scheduled for shoulders x-rays on Friday for the Orthopedic doctor. I am also having a CT scan on Friday to check the progress of the chemo.

Before chemo today, I went to see the radiologist. My regular doctor was not there but one his partners’ from another hospital was filling in for him. She agrees that I should see the orthopedic doctor. She thinks the problems could be starting in the neck causing both the head and shoulder pain. We will see.

I came home and napped for FIVE hours!! Thanks Benedryl!!

Subject: THE RESULTS FROM THE BONE SCAN ARE IN

Author:

Date Posted: 07:39:16 04/04/06 Tue

I called Dr. Hahn today and found out the results of the bone scan I had last Monday. He said I had to go get an x-ray of my right hip. That was the only area he was concerned about from the scan.

I went to American Radiology and had the x-rays done. Afterwards, I took the films over to Dr. Hahn. The bone scan said that I have a high probability of metastasis in the right hip however; the x-rays do not show anything. My doctor said that means it is not bad enough to show up on the x-rays so we are ahead of the game. I will see him this Wednesday for an official visit and exam. I am sure I will find out more then. I do not know if they can radiate the area or just keep me on chemo.

The area that it is in is like a ball joint. It is in an area called the ACETABULUM. That is the joint area where the ball of the femur (thigh bone) fits in. See pictures below.

Yea, I got the tire plugged and an oil change. I told them to check the tire pressure on all the tires including the spare. I don't know if they did for sure or not. It had a concrete nail in it! That sucker was about two inches long!!

I told them to check my steering fluid also while I was standing right there with the car. It sounds strange when I first start driving, particularly when it's cold. It's almost a whirring sound. The guy said, "you're definitely going to need fluid, you have a leak". Can you believe that!?!?!?! He tightened the clamp on the hose since it seemed a little loose. At least we know if it keeps leaking it ONLY needs a hose.

Yea, I wanna go to the car cruise. I'll be at your house by 5:00.

Spring? It's ALMOST spring--officially, at least. Didn't really feel like it this weekend, though. I was painting at my mom's future place today--actually, I was priming. Let's see....the place has to be painted, drop ceiling hung in the kitchen area, subfloor laid, carpet installed, bathroom fixtures installed, kitchen cabinets, countertop, etc., installed, appliances brought in....yeah, there's plenty left to do, but actually, that stuff shouldn't take too long. Most of the walls are up. The fireplace insert has been installed--it's a gas fireplace, which will serve as a source of heat. It works REALLY well, and it looks nice. I know I'll be spending more time there, working.

So the new chemo isn't too bad? That's good news--as long as it works! Hopefully you'll have enough energy for the cruises and the trips to the track. I saw an article in the Sun a while back about 75/80 closing. But I guess you usually go to Cecil with Mark, right?

Subject: ROUND 2

Author:
Stacy
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 23:40:04 03/20/06 Mon

I went to chemo today to start ROUND 2. Dr. Hahn has decided to change my regiment to once every 21 days. At that time, I will receive both the Abraxane and Avastin at the same time. He has modified the “amount” of both drugs to be able to get it every three weeks. It will no longer be a 6-week regiment. This should make it easier for both of us.

After this round has completed and I go the 21 days without problems, Dr. Hahn will schedule another CT scan to check progress.

Dr. Hahn also wants a bone scan because of left ear and head pain that I have been having for several weeks. It’s not like a headache, it is more like the pain I had with the Steven’s Johnson Syndrome. I cannot lie down on the left side for too long because it causes too much discomfort. Since it has gotten worse, Dr. Hahn wants a bone scan to look for the cancer spreading to the bones. I will get it done March 27th at Good Samaritan so Jeannette can access my port. Dr. Hahn does not believe it is the cancer spreading to the bone. He thinks it is probably nerves trying to regenerate from damage from radiation. He also thinks the chemo could be irritating them. He would much rather see that then bone cancer. ME TOO!

My friend, Betty, that I met in chemo came down from Stewartstown, Pennsylvania just to visit with me while I got chemo today. She finished her chemo on February 24th. CONGRATULATIONS BETTY!!!!

I had told her about a specific design I wanted on sweatshirt, down to the color of the sweatshirt. I had not done anything with it because I could NOT find the color sweatshirt I wanted in the exact way I wanted it. Well she and her husband, Carl, found the specific sweatshirt I wanted and had my design put on it!! She brought it to me today. I LOVE IT!! When I can get a picture of me with it on, I will post it. THANK YOU SO MUCH BETTY AND CARL!!!!

My next chemo should be on April 6th.

Yea, I've been driving the wagon quite a bit these days. I get the flow-masters put on it this coming Sunday. I can't wait. The tailpipe that is on it right now comes out right in front of the passenger rear wheel. Naturally this causes a lot of fumes. I don't need that. So the new pipes will come out either behind the tires or out the back. The guy that is doing it for me will make that decision.

I'm anxious for the cruises to get here. That means it will be warm out and I'll be able to go to the track. I won't be racing the wagon but I get to watch.

The main side effects from this chemo have been fatigue and some blood. Other than that I don't mind being on it at all. I sure hope and pray it's working. I'd like to stay on it quite a while.

Hey - nice picture! Yes, I saw your wagon on previous posts... really sharp looking... if I remember right, Mark surprised you with it.... nice to have a brother like that. :)
Mom (yesterday) had her 3rd chemo of 6. She's tolerating it(Doxil), a bit better than the first regiment(Taxol & Carboplatin). She had a bowel resection during the first surgery, and is still having some problems with that. A lot of immodium. We took her to Atlantic City last week - she had a good time, but it really tired her out. Sometimes she feels like it's one step forward and two back - I know you completely understand that.
Take care - know that we think of you often.

No, I bought the wagon myself. Mark went with me to look at it. I wanted to make sure it was worth the price. Then he did some work on it for me. Actually I surprised him that I even wanted a car.

I'm glad your Mom is doing better and had a good time in Atlantic City.

Just thought I'd post what I have about Doxil in case you didn't have the information.

The following side effects are common, meaning they occur in 30 percent or more of patients taking Doxil:

Low blood counts. Your white and red blood cells may temporarily decrease. This can put you at increased risk for infection and/or anemia.

Nadir: Meaning low point, nadir is the point in time between chemotherapy cycles in which you experience low blood counts.

Onset: 7 days
Nadir: 10-14 days
Recovery: 21-28 days

Hand -foot syndrome (Palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia or PPE) -skin rash, swelling, redness, pain and/or peeling of the skin on the palms of hands and soles of feet. Usually mild, starting 5-6 weeks after start of treatment. May require reductions in the dose of the medication.

Mouth sores.

These side effects are less common, meaning they occur in 10-29 percent of patients receiving Doxil:

Nausea and vomiting
Low blood counts (low platelet counts). This may put you at an increased risk of bleeding.
Weakness
Hair loss
Constipation
Poor appetite
Diarrhea
Discoloration of the urine (red/orange color) for about 48 hours after treatment
Darkening of skin at the site of previous radiation therapy. (radiation recall - see skin reactions).
Darkening, discoloration of nail beds. (see skin reactions)

A serious but uncommon side effect of Doxil can be interference with the pumping action of the heart. You can receive only up to a certain amount of Doxil during your lifetime. This "lifetime maximum dose" may be lower if you have heart disease risk factors such as radiation to the chest, advancing age, and use of other heart-toxic drugs. No "lifetime maximum dose" has been established for Doxil. You may be given Doxil for as long as the disease does not progress and you show no evidence of heart toxicity.

Hi Stacy! How was your weekend? How's your mom doing?

I went to the optometrist over the weekend, looking to get my prescription updated and get new contact lenses. He asked if I've noticed that, when wearing my contacts--I'm nearsighted--it's getting harder to read small type up close. YES, unfortunately I've noticed that. He said that, if I wore glasses regularly, it would be time to consider bifocals. AAAHHHHH!!!!!! He said to get a pair of cheap reading glasses if I felt I needed them. (Not yet.) Today, I went to the Eastern Shore for a friend's birthday. He turned 45 this weekend (he's 4 months older than I am). He had to put on reading glasses to read one of his birthday cards. One of my nurses, Tracey, left Dr. Hahn's office to move on to a bigger and better position at University. She got her master's degree in December as a Nurse Practitioner. I sure will miss her. She's been my nurse since 1999. I wish her lot's of luck although I know she'll do wonderful wherever she goes and whatever she does. A group of us got together and went out on February 24th to celebrate her new beginnings and wish her farewell.

Hey Connie. Chemo is going okay. I was in the ER one night and it through off my schedule. So I'm still in round one. I'll get my Avastin this Thursday then next week I'm off. After that, barring no problems, I start round two.

Mom's foot is healing. By the end of the first week, she was putting some weight on it and she was walking with a cane. She went back to work this week. She has to find creative ways to prop her foot up though. It's a bit swollen when she comes home so she ices it. She's always healed quickly.

Nothing to worry about with me not posting as often. Just not too much to say. Kinda hoping people post to me so I can answer questions.

Just wanted to give an update on Mom (Barbara). She broke her foot tonight while trying to hold the door open for me as I carried in groceries. She slipped out the door and twisted her foot on my outdoor mat. She went to a Patient First where they x-rayed it and said the long bone (metatarsal) attaching to the pinky toe on the right foot is broken all the way through. She's supposed to call her orthopedic doctor tomorrow.

God love her, it's always something.......

Hey Cliff! Mom went to the orthopedic doctor today. He said if she had to break a bone in her foot, that is the best one to break. She's allowed to do whatever she CAN do. He said her foot will tell her what she can and cannot do. Right now it's still very painful and she can't put any weight on it.

This is a graphic of which bone it is. From what she told me, I would think the broken area is probably closest to where it says "Jones Fracture" although I don't know if it is really a Jones Fracture.

Sounds like a "competition" I heard George Carlin talk about years ago. He was updating the audience on the standings in the "Comedians' Health Sweepstakes." He said, "I lead Richard Pryor in heart attacks, 2 to 1, but Richard leads me in burning yourself up, 1 to nothing." He went on to say, "Richard had a heart attack, so I decided I'd have one. Then Richard lit himself on fire, and I said, 'F*ck that, I'm having another heart attack!'"

Remember I couldn't get chemo last week? And if the bleeding from my lungs didn't stop I couldn't get it this week either? Well the bleeding stopped and I got chemo.

I asked him if he's going to keep me on the same 6-week regiment or if he was going to try to combine them so I could come in every 2 or 3 weeks instead. He has decided to keep me on the same regiment at least until we find out if the drugs are working or not. He didn't say when I would get another CT scan. I'm thinking sometime after the next round.

What side effects do you get with this chemo?

Everyone says "it's just hair, it'll grow back again. That's the least of your problems". And everyone says something about saving money on shampoo, conditioner, coloring and all the other hair supplies. I don't really save money because I have so much shampoo already. Plus I continue to use shampoo on my scalp. It keeps the scalp softer for when the hair starts growing in. I think to myself "oh yea?? YOU lose YOUR hair 4 times and see if it starts to get on YOUR nerves. I appreciate the sentiment but GOOD GRIEF, 4 TIMES!! One thing is for sure, I certainly have a lot of experience with it! Not griping to you but after 4 times, it's a pain. Once it's gone I tolerate it better, it's just the knowing it's going to come out again that bothers me.

I'm always happy to get me chemo. It's the only thing that's going to work and it's the only way for me to feel like I'm doing something.

Side effects I'm having? I still get fatigued. I don't have much of an appetite. And I coughed up a lot of blood and had to go to the ER. That was because bleeding can be a risk so you have to really watch for it. Being on coumadin made it hard for healing so the doctor took me off the blood thinner. The bleeding stopped within a day.

It was great hearing from you. How are you doing these days?

Awww you are so special. I didn't mean to sound glib about losing the hair, but I am/was tired of plucking away at the hair on my face. haaaa haaa
Actually, I am celebrating a year since my surgery. Had a lumpectomy, but then because of all the tissue taken, they reclassified it as a masectomy for billing. haaa haa Was because of the muscle also taken and lymph nodes taken. But was told that the swelling and pain should go away in a year from now. I thought one year of the swelling and pain, but surgeon now says two. Go figure. But just whinning...nothing compared to what you have been thru.

Have you seen the following: A friend sent it to me.
The Five Finger Prayer

1. Your thumb is nearest you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C. S. Lewis once said, a "sweet duty."

2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. Keep them in your prayers.

3. The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president, leaders in business and industry, and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance.

4. The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is the fact that this is our weakest finger; as any piano teacher will testify. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. You cannot pray too much for them.

5. And lastly comes our little finger; the smallest finger of all which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, "The least shall be the greatest among you." Your pinkie should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively.
I'll be in touch........

Today (Wednesday) I started coughing up a lot of blood around 4:00 pm. I called my doctor. He told me to go to the ER so I did. They checked my blood and did x-rays. The results all came back normal. The ER doctor talked to my doctor. The discharge instructions were to go home and see Dr. Hahn tomorrow. This is supposedly one of the serious side effects I need to look out for with the new chemo I'm on. I'm not sure what will happen tomorrow but I'll keep everyone up to date.

I had to see my doctor Tuesday because I've been having a lot of stomach pain mostly after eating. Plus I've actually thrown up a couple of times. He put me on Zantac for two days and if I still have problems, he wants me to have an endoscopy. That means they'll put a scope down my throat and into my stomach to find the culprit.

Hey Stacy--I hope this is indeed just a side effect of the chemo drug, and not an indication of some other problem. That's not to say it's a good thing, but it's better than finding out that it's caused by something unexpected.

I went to the doctor today. He wants me to completely go off of the blood thinner (Coumadin). He said sometimes it can metabolize differently in the body when taking the Avastin making it very difficult to stop bleeding. I will not get my chemo this week. If the bleeding stops all together, I'll get chemo next week. I still have some bleeding from the nose and the lungs but not as much as yesterday. Thank GOD!!

Since the Zantac is helping my tummy somewhat, I'll just stay on that for now. I may still end up with an endoscopy but not yet.

The car is running great! Mark put a TorkerII aluminum intake and a 600 Holley 4-barrel on it. I'll get the flowmasters put on it in a few weeks. I'm waiting for my Dad's friend to be able to do that.

Mark had to do some other things to it that were minor but aggravating for him but it really helped me. We have speakers hooked up to the radio but it only plays when it wants to. That's not too much of a worry though, I like listening to the car run when I'm driving it!

I'll be putting vanity tags on it. I just can't decide if I want LIL SIS or LILSISS on it. LILSISS because it's an SS. What's your opinion?

I love driving it. It rides so smooth and the steering is great. I has power steering. The only thing that I really hate about it is, it doesn't have sun visors! But that wasn't enough to make me not want the car.

I received an email today that I wanted to share with other people.

It read:

In November, a rare kind of breast cancer was found. A lady developed a rash on her breast, similar to that of young mothers who are nursing. Because her mammogram had been clear, the doctor treated her with antibiotics for infections. After 2 rounds, it continued to get worse, so her doctor sent her for another mammogram. This time it showed a mass.

A biopsy found a fast growing malignancy. Chemo was started in order to shrink the growth; then a mastectomy was performed; then a full round of Chemo; then radiation. After about 9 months of intense treatment, she was given a clean bill of health. She had one year of living each day to its fullest.! Then the cancer returned to the liver area. She took 4 treatments and decided that she wanted quality of life, not the after effects of Chemo. She had 5 great months and she pla nned each detail of the final days. After a few days of needing morphine, she died. She left this message to be delivered to women everywhere:

Women, PLEASE be alert to anything that is not normal, and be persistent in getting help as soon as possible.

Paget's Disease: This is a rare form of breast cancer, and is on the outside of the breast, on the nipple and aureole. It appeared as a rash, which later became a lesion with a crusty outer edge. I would not have ever suspected it to be breast cancer but it was. My nipple never seemed any different to me, but the rash bothered me, so I went to the doctor for that. Sometimes, it itched and was sore, but other than that it didn't bother me. It was just ugly and a nuisance, and could not be cleared up with all the creams prescribed by my doctor and dermatologist for the dermatitis on my eyes just prior to this outbreak. They seemed a little concerned but did not warn me IT could be cancerous.

Now, I suspect not many women out there know a lesion or rash on the nipple or aureole can be breast cancer. Mine started out as a single red pimple on the aureole. One of the biggest problems with Paget's disease of the nipple is that the symptoms appear to be harmless. It is frequently thought to be a skin inflammation or infection, leading to unfortunate delays in detection and care.

What are the symptoms?

1. A persistent redness, oozing, and crusting of your nipple causing it to itch and burn. (As I stated, mine did not itch or burn much, and had no oozing I was aware of, but it did have a crust along the outer edge on one side.)

2. A sore on your nipple that will not heal. (Mine was on the aureole area with a whitish thick looking area in center of nipple).

3. Usually only one nipple is effected. How is it diagnosed? Your doctor will do a physical exam and should suggest having a mammogram of both breasts, done immediately. Even though the redness, oozing and crusting closely resemble dermatitis (inflammation of the skin), your doctor should suspect cancer if the sore is only on one breast. Your doctor should order a biopsy of your sore! to confirm what IS going on.

My breast cancer has spread and metastasized to my bones after receiving mega doses of chemotherapy, 28 treatments of radiation and taking Tamaxofin. If this had been diagnosed as breast cancer in the beginning, perhaps it would not have spread..."

TO ALL READERS from Stacy:

After reading about Paget's disease, I'm not sure of the truth in this. Paget's disease seems to be a bone disease that does not have a cure. Maybe this person ended up with Paget's Disease because her cancer spread to her bones. But I wanted to send the message just in case they have found a new type of breast cancer.

A friend of mine said to me that they can't begin to imagine how I must be feeling right now (after finding out my CT results). Well, I thought I'd share my answer with you.

I'm not thrilled about my CT results either. I CAN tell you how I'm feeling.... I don't like the cancer growing and moving into other places but I do feel like I'm doing everything I can. In life I try not to worry about the things I can't do anything about. I try not to let things get to me. It really does help me think about things objectively. Whether it's about my cancer or anything else. I also try not to worry about the things I can do something about. I just do what I need to. As for my cancer, I've put myself in my doctor's hands but mostly I've put myself in God's hands. Of course I pray for a miracle. My upbeat attitude is really just determination to be here. I want to live. I want to live for me. I want to live for my family. I want to live for my babies. I never want to put my family through losing me. It's bad enough having to put them through what I'm going through. I know they worry and I know they love me. They hate it. So naturally I hate being the one putting them through it even though it's not my fault. I've never been too proud to ask for help or to let others help me that want to as long as I need it. As independent as I am, I still appreciate help when I need it. One of my neighbors has taken it upon himself to take my trash to the curb on trash days. I throw it out front of my door and he takes it to the curb. I never asked him to do it but I let him do it because it is a big help. I'm not as strong as I was plus I'm afraid to strain too much with having a blood clot in my chest. My Mom and my Aunt have really been a big help too.

This is a genuine answer and I appreciate this friends offer to help me if I need it. Feeling the way that I do about things has made me a happier person and I really would love to see other cancer patients feel the same way or even better about their situation. It's a nasty disease and it's not forgiving so as the "host" of this disease, I'd like to be an exception to the rule. And I'd like to try to help other's feel the same way.

For those of you who don't get to 'see' Stacy - she is as strong and as upbeat as she 'sounds' in these messages. She has always been a very strong and confident person, but even I never knew just how "tough" she really is. She has a will that a lot of people never even begin to imagine. Not just because she is my Daughter, but she makes me so proud of her, in so many ways. She has a heart of gold and does not like to be the reason any one suffers any...so all of you who do know her, you are very lucky to have her in your life. Say a special prayer for her, and please always say a prayer for her whenever she crosses your mind.

Hey Kiddo - I sure do love you and you sure are one great person. You make mt life a lot easier...so never think for even a minute that you are the cause of a lot of pain...you more than make up for any hard days that I have ever had because of this monster. I'm with you..we are going to show this thing just who is in charge. None of us are even close to being finished with the fight....

Love you.....and thanks, all of you who care and check on her...

Since Sunday night, I've been coughing up a little blood and blowing some out my nose. Not much from either place but it is there. Since my doctor wants me to keep a close eye out for bleeding I called my nurse today. She talked to Dr. Hahn about my symptoms. He said he thinks I have a bit of bronchitis so he wants to prescribe an antibiotic for a week. We will go from there.

Hey! You're not supposed to get brochitis when you're getting chemo. It's a fairness issue--that's too many things at once! You're hogging all the illnesses, and depriving others of their fair share!

Lordy Lordy - you are 40 ???? Wish I was 40.... haaa Being 50 sounds soooo old. Sorry to hear you have to go thru some more chemo. One advantage I found when I lost my hair, was that I didn't need to buy as much shampoo. Have to try keep a positive attitude about this awful thing called cancer. Hope the new year brings better news after the chemo
I have been trying to catch up on my posting as a new years resolution. I don't think I have been doing so good. Can you tell haaa haa.
I'm thinking of you, even if I am not good about posting.

I think I'm getting used to this chemo thing. I've been going through it for almost 2 1/2 years now. Add in a little radiation time and a couple of hospital visits.

This will make the 4TH time losing my hair. It just started coming back in too. That part I'm pretty tired of. I still use shampoo on my head though. It's much more gentle on the scalp. Plus when hair does come in, it makes the hair softer.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. Now that I AM 40 I don't really mind. I dreaded turning 40 but it's here now. Nothing I can do about it.

I sure hope 2006 is a better year for all of us!! How have you been?

When my hair first came back it started out as curly/wavey, but very quickly, it changed to straight. I'm keeping my wigs to surprise some people, once in a while. (When I feel risque. haaa haa)
I have passed on your hints about the benadryl. Has helped me and others. Talk to you again.

I started my new chemo today. The nurses called me to say that my Doctor would not be in tomorrow (Friday) and he wanted to see me before I started it. He also wanted to be in the office while I got it. He said that I should watch out for bleeding (i.e., bloody nose, coughing up blood…), problems breathing, chest pain, and pain associated with blood clots. He does not expect me to have these problems but they are the most serious. He is cautious simply because I’ve been on so much chemo over the last two and a half years that there is a lot of toxicity in my body.

I may go back to going on Thursdays since I saw so many friends today. It would have been nice to have people there that know you had anything happened. Maybe occasionally go on Fridays so I can see those friends as well. Fortunately, all went well with the actual infusion of the drugs.

Each time I go for chemo, I will receive pre-medications to make sure there are no reactions to the drugs. This is what I will receive:

Decadron (Dexamethasone)– 10 mg’s – for anti-nausea

Zantac – 50 mg’s – for my stomach

Anzemet – 100 mg’s – for anti-nausea

Benadryl – 50 mg’s – for allergic reactions

I will continue to receive the Aranesp (for re-building red blood cells) once every two weeks. If the numbers drop enough, I will receive it once per week.

My new chemo drugs are:

This new chemo will be a six-week schedule until the doctor sees how my body reacts to the two new drugs.

Each round (schedule) will be as follows:

Week one - Abraxane and Avastin
Week two - off
Week three - Avastin
Week four – Abraxane
Week five - Avastin
Week six – off

Week 7 - Start all over again

The Abraxane is 380 mg’s and the Avastin is 388 mg’s.

Fortunately, I will be able to receive ALL drugs mentioned by IV through my port-a-cath.

So far, this evening I have had a strange side effect. After sitting for a little while then standing up, I felt “tipsy” for a few minutes. I would stumble to the left. In addition, my ears were “closing up” similar to how it feels before you pass out. However, I did not feel like I was going to pass out. I checked my blood pressure and it was up a little bit. If I continue to have problems with this tomorrow, I will call the nurses.

Subject: CT SCAN RESULTS

Author:
Stacy
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 18:52:56 01/12/06 Thu

I went to the doctor’s office today for my CT scan results. Unfortunately, the news was not good. I will be changing chemo drugs next week. I will be put on Avastin and Abraxane. I will be going once every two weeks and should be in the office for about 3 hours each time. I will lose all hair again, this time on my entire body.

This is a summary of what was found:

1. Fluid in the lungs. *

2. Fluid around the heart. *

3. All of the masses have increased in size.

4. There are several more small masses that have developed. *

5. The masses in the lymph nodes in my chest have also increased in size. They are real close to the esophagus and wind pipe.

6. Small node on the left adrenal gland. * (The adrenal glands are orange-colored endocrine glands which are located on the top of both kidneys.)

7. Swelling under the skin in all the tissues seen on CT scan. *

8. Skin thickening of the chest wall where I had the mastectomy. *

9. A few small nodes have appeared in my armpit area (axilla). *

* = new issues

Lately I’ve been having chest pains when I lay down. I figured it was from the blood clot. It seems that it is partly from that but also because of the increased size of the masses in the center of my chest.

I supposed I could have received much better news but I’m still determined to beat this thing. Or at least manage it WELL for a very very very long time. To be feeling as well as I am, I sure my faith in God has a lot to do with that. I also believe all of your prayers are helping.

By the way, since it's the new year--I'm still planning to take you to dinner and a car cruise, and I don't want to hear any excuses this year!

I just took Mom home. The results were perfectly normal so no stress test. She sees her doctor in early February just for a follow up. Her potassium was a little low so that may have had something to do with her pain but the doctor thinks it's mostly stress. She's just happy to be home.
