Hi Cliff. About the numbing from Taxol... that is a very common side effect with Taxol. I had numbing and tingling BIG TIME in my hands and feet. It was so bad in my feet that I about busted my tail getting in the shower. I'd have a hard time "feeling" the floor so I would slip. Fortunately I never fell. My hands were so bad that I had to stop all crocheting and other crafts. It was very difficult to write and/or type too. With each treatment, it got worse and it went higher up my arm. Fortunately I only had four treatments but I suspect it would have gotten worse. Once I went off the drug all numbing and tingling wore off but it took a while.

Tell your Father that it's a common side effect but a huge nuisance. It will wear off after he's off the drug but it may take a while. If they keep him on the drug long term it can cause some nerve damage meaning he wouldn't get complete feeling back. Suggest a lower dose. He could also try Aleve to help.

Another side effect that he may encounter could be nail loss on his fingers and his toes. That may or may not happen. If he starts having problems with his nails, get a small bottle of Tea Tree Oil. I found it to be the cheapest at Safeway. It's not cheap, particularly at GNC. Anyway, just use a Q-tip or cotton swap and smear it on his nails. It stinks but it really helps the nails. I didn't have that problem on Taxol although a lot of people do. I did have the problem on Taxol's cousin Taxotere. My chemo nurse suggested the oil and I tried it.

Have a wonderful time on vacation with Patrick! I did hear it's supposed to rain Monday. UGH!

Thanks for the info. I've passed it along to my parents--hopefully they'll find it reassuring.

The weather wasn't too good in OC, but we still had fun--still got out in the water!
