It seems to me that knowledge must be warranted by some other beliefs or propositions which one has not "proven." This is inevitable because it is simply part of being human -- being finite. Knowledge, therefore, cannot be "certain" but "probable" (with the exception of tautology perhaps, but tautology in itself tells you nothing new about the world). On the other hand, I don't think religious beliefs must be arbitrary in the sense that one accepts or rejects a belief / proposition by throwing dice. A person has to judge a belief / proposition according to one's system of beliefs and to accept or reject the proposition based on the level of probability within a particular system, however one calcuates that probability.
