This correspondent grew up a a tadpole in Newburgh, and emerged as a frog successively in Wilmington DE, Port Arthur TX and Plainfield NJ when all of these plasces were in their heyday. I sometimes feel that I tainted each of these places because of what's happened to all of them beginning in the late 1960's. God help Beaufort SC after I've gone!
