It's a good poem, but it strikes me that you need to be in therapy to let go of your old therapist.

I know how hard it can be to let go of a long-term relationship. I'm going through that myself. Someone who was my best fried for 8 years is gone.

It's like a divorce, I suppose. Relationships with shrinks are extra-complicated, we feel like they are our friends and care about us, but we pay them and that puts us on a different footing.

I notice my therapist (of more than 5 years) often shares her own life stories with me, much more than she used to.

I have the sense that we are friends and yet I know I am a source of steady income for her. I have insurance that is much better than average and I think most of her patients come and go, they are there for short-term crisis counseling. I can be counted on. I always have a problem or two up my sleeve.

Anyway, I hate that it is haunting you like this, I am convinced there is no going back and also that it will get easier as time passes. I hope you do find another competent shrink soon.

Hugs,

Liz
