Subject: trimming feet

Hi I am new to this board but have a question maybe someone can help with. I have a mammoth donkey which I have only had for a few months. His feet are in awful shape but he will not allow me or the farrier to handle them we managed to get his front feet done but his hind are awful-does anybody have any tips? I have no history on this donkey as he was saved from slaughter. He is an absolute sweetheart-just need to trim thoose darn feet! Thanks for any input.

I bought my 10 year old mammoth in almost the same way, 6 years ago. I started with getting him used to being brushed at his hind legs, and gradually brushing his hooves then gradually picking-up his hind hooves and brushing the bottoms. About one year of 'gradually'. Be patient and keep at it.

I imagine that you still have a problem? I am new to "finding" this message board. The donkey has a spinal subluxation & is in pain. He needs chiropractic correction to enjoy painfree movement. He will gladly pick up his feet if he is not in pain. Feel free to contact me or visit web site: www.casicielofarm.com

Try feeding the animal a snack while someone holds the feet.It works with my dog.
