I have horse and jack and neither ever chew on trees nor bark. The only time they've ever eaten leaves was when they didn't have a salt block.
Sometimes they need salt blocks or such types of blocks from supply store to ensure they're getting all their vitamins and minerals as they usually only eat unusual things (for their diet anyway) when they're lacking.

Your right a salt block, the sulphur (yellow white one) is good. But don't forget DE Diatomaceous Earth (the natural way). Controlling Parasites is the key to a Content Equine, along with a good work program. We used Chemicals for yrs. till we found DE and the changes are remarkable.
