Subject: dieting a 4 year old jenny

How do I safely diet a young donkey. She's overweight with a large hard neck ligament. Her feet don't seem to be sore or problematic at this point. She's been in a 2.5 acre pasture with fast growing spring grass. We now have her boarding in a dirt paddock & eating grass hay. What else should I be doing? I wish I knew a good source for Donkey/Burro information, diseases, normal growth& developement etc.
Thank you -
