The swimsuit competition of the Miss Philippines 2005 held at Lakeshore Estates in Mexico, Pampanga showcased the candidates in their splendid physical glory. Whenever there is a competition like this, apart to what the judges are being asked to look for based on the criteria for judging, I think the universal criteria for judging the swimsuit parade is to look at the candidate based on their overall projection, body figure and proportion, beauty of legs and carriage. Of course, in the overall projection, there is always the X-factor that is invoked when looking at the totality of the candidate. In terms of carriage, it is the way the candidate walked the walk. My review of the candidates will be divided into three aspects: I will discuss them as the following:

THE GIRLS WITH THE OHMMP…….

Candidate Number 1, Arlene Villanueva of the Cordillera Administrative Region during the swimsuit competition is an epitome of what a girl in swimsuit should be. Lacking the height of its taller competitors, lacking the svelte figure, possessing some flabs, this girl sashayed like a pro and all her inequities were forgotten. She had too much ohmmp that night and that mattered most. This girl carried herself with aplomb.

Candidate Number 6, Pauline Garrison of the National Capital Region was the butt of many jokes because of her resemblance to one comedienne host. But this did not deter her in proving to all sundry that she can make it to this swimsuit round. She showed grace. She projected well and she knows how to capitalize on that pose that will show her beautiful curves.

Everyone seems to await what this girl is going to show onstage. If we are to reminded, Candidate Number 18, Evangelyn Taguba of the National Capital Region made one 360 degree turn during the press presentation. Well, this time she did two 360 degree turns to the delight and applause of the audience. This girl did make the runway her slave. She sashayed, she projected with finesse and she was all over with charisma. A strong bet for the Best in Swimsuit Award.

THE NOT-SO OHMMPS…….

Hometown girl, Candidate Number 5, Genebelle Raagas was cheered by her kabalens. With a towering height and good projections, she did exceptionally well. However, I have some misgivings on her. I have noticed that the make-up artists are trying to experiment on her looks but to no avail. She should be able to find an endearing look that would highlight her physical prowess. A very good make-up artist will do her good.

Istana Eula Burgos, Candidate Number 24, moved on the stage so smoothly. She appeared to have a voluptuous figure that could wow hot-blooded males. Istana however is limited by height on this matter.

Candidate Number 4 did not show that much ohmmps. But she could be categorized under the not so ohmmps. With a statuesque figure, Stephanie Yu still commands attention onstage even with not so sterling performance.

OTHER CANDIDATES:

Candidate Number 7 – proficient

Candidate Number 9 – exotic presence

Candidate Number 12 – reminds us always of her Mirriam Quiambao demeanor

Candidate number 16 – her mestiza emanates.

Well, I would not want to talk about others, so-so performances. I would not want to dip my hand on other posters potshots on the candidates.
