This is for the sake of those persons who posted the message or replies. This is in defense for them who rightly posted it. I did not give any reply postings to that message when I read it because I felt that the message was done in a fairly manner. THE ARTICLE OR MESSAGE STARTED AND ENDED with CONGRATULATORY REMARKS for MS FRANCO FOR A JOB WELL DONE AND THE AUTHORS EVEN ENCOURAGED SHE LOU TO MOVE ON AND TRAIN FUTURE MODELS AND BEAUTY QUEENS BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE IN HER CAPACITY. THERE WAS NO DERAGATORY REMARKS (not even one) AGAINST MS FRANCO.

There were enumerations or comments that were mentioned.

You mentioned this, ” palaging hindi ayos ang hair ni Sheryl Lou;”
Well, the article did not even tell that exactly. There was no words like those as you claimed. In that article if I remember it right, it says, “bad hairstyles --- Ms Franco had two bad hairstyles …. – it was their opinion. They don’t like her hairstyle when she left the Philippines and during the course of the pageant. I don’t see anything wrong with those statements. Previous articles suggested for another hairstyle. IT IS UP TO THE MANAGER OF MS FRANCO IF SHE/HE WILL SPORT THAT HAIRSTYLE DURING THE PAGEANT. You MAY OR MAY NOT take their suggestions. In that 1st enumeration there was no DERAGATORY remarks against her.

Another statement that you mentioned, “The poster said na rarely lang nagsmile si Shelou during the whole span of the pageant…” I think it was their observation. Maybe the authors did not see her smiling that often. Maybe they were not present all the time.. There was nothing wrong of that comment. In that 2nd comment, there was no DERAGATORY remarks against her. I believe that they wanted Ms Franco to smile always. It was just unfortunate that they saw her in an event that she was not smiling at all…maybe only… It is better to say that you will clarify that she smiled often during the pageant and not to delete the article. There’s nothing to feel bad on this 2nd comment. You have to feel bad if there are comments like this, “ang pangit ng ngiti na parang sira…etc or parang syang baliw ngumiti” but there were no comments made like that against shelou.. If the authors missed the smile of shelou, then, it was their observation why they commented like that. Defend ms franco in a nice and subtle way.

You mentioned this, ” Sabi ng poster na hindi raw nakikipag halubilo si Shelou sa MTW organization…” it was very clear that the message posted did not even mentioned those words/statements. You made it worst. It did not say that Ms Franco did not socialize with other people when she was there. The comment made by them was that she was not the only person who was on national tv who invited televiewers to watch MTW. Because previously, the staff commented that she was the only candidate who was given a chance by MTW organizers to be on national TV and invited people. Then there was a clarification made by one of the staff of MTW that she was not the only candidate who had a chance on national TV, etc. You even deleted that clarification article which there was nothing against Ms Franco, It was pure clarification from MTW. With regards to the interview, it was their observation. The authors wanted to enhance more of her communication skills. Even if they mentioned that she was not in her high spirit. Well, it’s their observation. AGAIN, THERE WAS NO DERAGATORY or LIBEL WORDS OR BELOW THE BELT WORDS THAT WERE MENTIONED IN THAT COMMENT.

All I can say is that the message was balance and no below the belt words that was mentioned. It was created fairly for the sake of Ms Franco. It is worth for posting. Ang hindi dapat ma-post ay yung mga nagsasabi ng mga degrading and unacceptable remarks against her. HWAG NAMAN KAYONG MADALING MAPIKON. The way I read the message, it was not created but it was an observation that was made based on their presence there in Zimbabwe, based on the pictures that were browsed online, based on the events of the pageant with their reliable sources also. They have also the right to voice out their side and it is not only your side. These two sides will make it MORE BALANCE AND FAIR TO EVERYBODY. It’s a big NO for you to delete such wonderful articles, messages and replies. It’s true when the authors say, “it’s your credibility is at stake here”. I have this suggestion --- please bring back the messages and replies posted. It will make your website very credible. If not, you will lose your credibility. I will never visit your site again if you wont bring back those two main articles including replies.

More power to Ms Franco!

From U.S. of A. pageant fanatic

We thought that this website is the best compared to other sites but we were disappointed that your staff deleted our constructive comments and reactions for the betterment of Ms Franco. We would like to instill to the person who deleted the reactions and comments that we did not give any destructive words or libel words towards shelou. There were a lot of healthy replies from our posted message. It was fair and balance. There was nothing personal. If you still continue doing this kind of deletion then your credibility is at stake here. MTW staff even posted clarification issue and the message was so positive. The two posted messages should be re-posted and be read by the visitors. If not, you just lost your credibility. We are so sorry to say these stuffs. Again, the comments were very constructive and it's for the sake of ms shelou. Congratulations to she lou but two thumbs down to the one who deleted the two important messages.

I am flabbergasted by the result of Miss World 2005. I was rather optimistic that Ms. Marquez of the Philippines was a shoo-in. I hate to think that politics have something to do with this year's choice. Israel and Palestine are in the headlines these days, and if Palestine had a contestant, she would have been named Mrs. World or one of the runner-ups. Beauty pageants should remain apolitical and be its own excuse for being. Congratulations to Ms. Marquez nonetheless.

RP Bet In Miss Tourism World Tilt

Another Filipina beauty, Sheryl Lou Dacanay, has just left to compete in yet another international beauty contest, the Miss Tourism World 2005, slated on Feb. 26 in Zimbabwe.

Here’s the report from Funfare’s "beauty experts" Felix Manuel, Joey Cezeare, Gery Yumping and Francis Calubaquib:

About 82 stunning ladies from all over the world arrived in Victoria Falls Zimbabwe last Saturday, Feb. 12, to compete in the Miss Tourism World 2005 contest.

Representing Philippines is 2003 Miss Philippines Water, Sheryl Lou Dacanay Franco. She was appointed as the country’s representative by Pageant Enthusiasts Guild of the Philippines (PEGPI).

Sheryl Lou, 21, is a senior Tourism student at the University of Baguio. She stands 5’7" and measures a perfect 34-24-34. She is a familiar figure in the beauty pageant scene having won numerous beauty titles. She was the 1999 Millennium Mutya ng La Union, Miss Northern Luzon 2000 and Bb. Pilipinas semi-finalist in the same year. In 2001, she was adjudged as Miss Baguio and was a contestant in the Miss Global Queen Philippines. She was also crowned Lakambini ng Pilipinas in 2002.

Shelou, as she is fondly called, is the daughter of Reynaldo Franco and the former Ma. Lilibeth Dacanay; she has a younger brother, Ray Lester. She has undergone intensive training for over a month. She left last Feb. 8 for Bangkok where she did more fittings and photo shoots, and proceeded to Singapore where she took the plane to Zimbabwe together with some of the Asian delegates.

Shelou would like to thank her family and friends for their love and support and requests everyone to support her in the pageant. She is also grateful to her sponsors, Philippine Airlines, The Department of Tourism, Holcym Philippines and the provincial government of La Union, especially the City of San Fernando. The stunningly beautiful national costume and evening gowns that she will wear in the pageant were created specially for her by Julius Jose Ornum.

The coronation night is slated on Feb. 26 at the Elephant Hills Resort and Convention Centre in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. This year’s winner will receive a total price worth $100,000.

It is interesting to note that the Philippines has won the Miss Tourism World crown twice. US-based Suzanne Park Fahling (1989 Bb. Pilipinas first runner-up) was handpicked in the States to join the pageant in 1995 and became the first Filipina title holder. Michelle Cueva Reyes(2001 Bb. Pilipinas first runner-up) won the pageant in 2002.

The other Filipinas who joined the pageant were also successful in securing a place in the finals. Rachel Muyot Soriano (Bb. Pilipinas-World 1998) was adjudged second runner-up and Best in Gown in 2000. The following year, Zorayda Ruth Blanco Andam (Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2001) entered the semi finals and was adjudged Miss Tourism World-Asia.

Im not really fond of beauty contests, but everytime i would seen such in television especially the Bb. Pilipinas,I always had this question -bakit ba halos lahat ng contestant eh puro taga Luzon? I tell you there's a lot of potential provincial beauties especially here in th south who are very much deserving to compete in global tilt, unfortunately, they don't have much time and resources to go there in manila just to audition for the Bb. Pilipinas, sa totoo lang ho,nung nanalo sina gladys duenas(from pagadian city),susan ritter(zamboanga),noela evangelista(iligan city)karla bautista and yedda mendoza(both from cebu),laking tuwa na ho namin, coz we feel that they stand for the entire south, and admit it guys, they're doing well in their respective competition,
THE ONLY THING THAT BPCI SHOULD DO IS TO OPEN A PROVINCIAL FRANCHISE FOR THE PAGEANT OR THEY CAN CONTACT THE RESPECTIVE PROVINCIAL TOURISM OFFICES TO CONDUCT SEARCHES IN THEIR RESPECTIVE PROVINCES
Puro na lang taga Metro Manila at Luzon yung pinapanalo nyo,but the truth is,your past beauties are not performing well abroad. Better do something about it people....coz winning the Miss Universe and Miss World, aba para narin tayong nanalo ng gold medal sa olympic nyan!

HARARE TO HOST MISS TOURISM WORLD

VICTORIA FALLS, February 17, 2005(New Ziana) - The venue for the Miss Tourism World pageant has been moved from Victoria Falls to Harare as the resort town does not have the capacity to accommodate the huge influx of international visitors, organisers said on Thursday.
"There has been a lot of interest that has been generated all over the world. After looking at the logistical aspect of it, we thought this venue is not most appropriate," event spokesperson, Michael Orji, told New Ziana.

He said the event, to be held on February 28, would now be held at the Harare International Conference Centre, which has a better carrying capacity.

Orji said the decision was arrived at after consultations with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, Ministry of Information and Publicity and the ZimSun Leisure Group.

Apart from the change of venue, he said, everything was going according to plan.

"We will leave Victoria Falls on Sunday for Harare where we will wind up the schedule on the 28th of this month," he said.

"This whole thing is about tourism and we are here to view the country's tourist attractions." Orji added that the planned activities such as the shooting of a documentary and photo shoots for the models had been done as planned.

Meanwhile organisers of the event have released the qualities to be considered in the search for the winner.

Some of the characteristics include responsibility, confidence, level of motivation for the job as well as the level of willingness and dedication to work as a role model.

"Along with the glory of a crown comes the hard work of appearances and making sponsors and the community proud to have her as a role model," the organisers said.

Other global pageants include the Miss Millionaire, Model of the World, Model of the Universe, and Mr Tourism World.

Zimbabwe is being represented in the event by the reigning Miss Zimbabwe, Oslie Muringayi.

Zimbabwe won the bid to host the event after extensive consideration by a team of selectors.

China and Thailand were the other bidders.

Seventy-two countries will participate at the event which is being held in Africa for the first time.

Zimbabwe is expected to take advantage of the show to market its unparalleled tourism potential to the world.

Last year the country received 1,27 million tourists and netted in US$ 152,3 million from their arrivals.

Miss Tourism contestants back in Harare

Entertainment Reporters
A BEVY of Miss Tourism World contestants yesterday arrived from Victoria Falls to a rousing welcome at the Harare International Airport ahead of the finals scheduled for this weekend.

Vice President Joyce Mujuru, who flew with the models from Bulawayo where their plane made a stop-over to pick some passengers, had time to chat with the beauty contestants at the airport.

Zanu-PF Secretary for Women’s Affairs Cde Oppah Muchinguri, Zanu-PF National Chairman Cde John Nkomo and Zanu-PF Deputy Youth Secretary Cde Saviour Kasukuwere were also at the airport to welcome the beauties.

The 95 contestants, clad in white T-shirts inscribed with the theme of the pageant "Discover a World of Beauty in Zimbabwe", were each presented with a rose and a red ribbon, which are universally recognised symbols of empathy with people living with HIV and Aids.

In a speech on behalf of the Minister of Health and Child Welfare, Dr David Parirenyatwa, the director of nursing services in the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare, Mrs Cynthia Chasokela, said the pandemic was not a problem confined to Africa solely but affected the whole world too.

John Singh, the president of the Miss Tourism World Organisation, said the tour had more than accomplished its intended purpose and would bear fruit as the contestants would act as Zimbabwe’s tourism ambassadors to the world.

He said the success was attributable to the Government of Zimbabwe and its people.

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority hosted a brief reception for the models at the airport before police escorted the beauties to the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, the venue of the grand finale.

Meanwhile, the tour of Zimbabwe’s tourist holiday resorts continues today with models visiting Kariba, the Great Zimbabwe Monument and the Eastern Highlands where they would go on mountain climbing. Last week the Government rescued the Miss Tourism World pageant after the licensee had failed to fund the event. The move was necessitated by the need to rescue the pageant because it would have reflected badly on the country had it been cancelled.

WITH all the beauty pageants taking place throughout the year all over the world, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations believes there is room for one more.

Asean's Business and Advisory Council has come up with "Miss Asean 2005" in an effort to revive the region's business and tourism potentials. The group of business and industry leaders from the 10-member countries is searching for the most effective spokesperson for the goal. The search which will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on March 19.

Tourism Secretary Joseph "Ace" Durano and Jose Concepcion Jr., chair of Asean-BAC and East Asia Business Council Philippines, recently met representatives from the pageant's organizing committee led by Tantowi Yahya of Indonesia to discuss the pageant's staging at the posh Oasis restaurant in Gateway Mall, Araneta Center, Cubao.

The pageant will gather representatives from Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Delegates from India, China, Japan, Korea and Australia will participate as guest-candidates.

RP's bet

Binibining Pilipinas-International 2003 Jhezarie Javier will represent the Philippines. The Hotel and Restaurant Management graduate of the University of Santo Tomas was hand-picked by Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. founder Madam Stella Marquez de Araneta.

"She's smart and beautiful but truly down to earth. I have high hopes that she will win," Araneta said of Javier.

Javier herself vowed, "I will do my best to bring home the first Miss Asean crown."

During the local pageant in 2003, the 5-foot-9 charmer was proclaimed Miss Photogenic, Miss Philippine Airlines Sunniest Personality and Miss Myra 300 E Inner Beauty.

Javier left on Tuesday for a three-day exposure trip to Indonesia. She will return to the country to further study the history, culture, and business climate of the countries in the region before her official send-off on March 5.

Aside from presenting beautiful women, the search will also showcase the region's artists. The Manila Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at the pageant, along with pop stars and dancers from Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. An Indonesian couturier will provide the evening gowns for the pageant contestants.

First of all , I would like to comment that Melanie Marquez has maintained her beauty quite successfully like Evangeline Pascual. She reminds me of Tingting Cojuangco during her earlier years - matured, but still sophisticated and lovely. As for Sheryl, inspite of those unfavorable comments on her "feathers", I think they make her look exotic, reminiscent of those sultry beauties during the infamous carnival procession of Latin America. To the ladies, I wish them luck for I have heard how tough the competition is. Whatever the outcome would be, I'm very sure they would enjoy the experience of joining their own respective pageants.

can't BPCI bring back the glorious days of the 60's and 70's when most of the candidates are pretty, educated, articulate and from exclusive schools. Wake up BPCI!, be choosy of your candidates naman, naman! or you're just not really scouting for deserving candidates? in your 2005 candidates, you can see that there are 4 or 5 clear deserving winners only and the rest, pampuno lang sa pageant night. Para masabi lang na 25 ang candidates at may sasayaw sa song and dance number ng candidates. Where are the likes of Aurora Pijuan, Margie Moran, Evelyn Camus, Yogi Dominguez, Maricar Zaldariaga, Barbra Crespo, Vida Doria, Marilen Ojeda, Chat Silayan, Gloria Diaz and Charina Zaragoza, where oh where??!!

Miss Tibet Tashi Yangchen has been expelled from the Miss Tourism World beauty pageant in Zimbabwe due to pressure from China, an official said(AFP/File)

By R.K. Prashar, Indo-Asian News Service

Dharamsala, Feb 20 (IANS) Miss Tibet Tashi Yangchen has been expelled from the Miss Tourism World pageant, allegedly due to Chinese pressure.

The Chinese embassy in Harare reportedly objected to Miss Tibet's inclusion in the pageant, the event's organisers explained in a phone call to the director of the Miss Tibet pageant.

The organisers of the Miss Tourism World finally ousted Tashi Yangchen from the pageant Feb 16.

Lobsang Wangyal, director of the Miss Tibet pageant, said Tashi landed at Zimbabwe's capital Harare Feb 13 and took part in some events of the Miss Tourism World pageant.

The pageant's finale is scheduled for Feb 26. About 90 countries are participating in it.

Taiwan is represented in the pageant as Chinese Taipei. It was earlier shown as a separate country but, due to Chinese objections, it had to be represented under the current title.

Hong Kong is part of the pageant as another representative of China.

Miss Tourism World is a British production chaired by John Singh. Miss Tibet is chosen from Tibetan exiles around the world.

Tashi is currently in London en route to India, Wangyal said.
