Wendy Valdez – One of the prettiest among the candidates. Pero pang artista ang dating nya. She’s not a beauty queen material dahil nga projection nya is pang artista. Her height and her vital stats are her downfall, but nonetheless, I can see this lady making it to the semifinal round.

Ameurfina Koc – One of the least pretty among the candidates. She has the alindog of a beauty queen though. Masyadong bilog ba or square. I don’t think she will make it to the semifinal round.

Rica Marie Taylor – One of the least pretty among the candidates too. I don’t think she will make it sa semifinal round.

Is it her nose or is it her smile?

I think pretty sya pero walang appeal. Hindi sya marunong makipaglaro infront of the camera. Give her one more year and magandang training, kakabog ito sa susunod na kabanata ng bb pilipinas.

I don’t think she’s a beauty queen material too. Pang tweetums sya at pang artista. Still I don’t think she will make it sa top 10.

Considering na nagging runner-up sya dati, I was expecting a transformed Joanna this year. Pero wala akong nakikitang transformation. So I think hanging semifinalist lang sya.

Carlene Aguilar – I should say that she’s the most prepared candidate this year. Sya sana at si Rachel Santos ang most prepared this year, kaso natigbak si Rashel Santos. The only problem with her is that she’s not that pretty.. pero ok na dahil ang galling mag make-up nya at ang galling ng mga hair style. 100 percent ready na talaga itong babaeng ito. She will surely grab one of the crowns this year.

Mary Jane de la Cruz – one of the least pretty among the candidates. I don’t think she will advance sa semifinal round.

Monifer Samonte – one of the least hyped candidates that could spoil any body’s chance in making it sa semifinal round. I think she has the chance of making it sa semifinal round.

I think she will surely make it sa semifinal round.

Marie May Paloma – one of the least pretty candidates in this year’s batch.

She won’t make it sa semifinal round.

Melanie Ediza – one of the most hyped candidates this year. Even before she joined the pageant this year, sobrang hype na ng mga tao sa babaeng ito. When her first picture appeared on the internet during the final screening yun.. disappointed almost lahat ng fans dahil sa bilog na face nya. It’s not actually her face.. cheecks nya ay masyadong matambok. Nontheless, overall maganda ang babaeng ito…Pero I was expecting more from her projection. The straight hair isn’t doing her any good too dahil nahahalata talaga ang bilog na fez. Her make too pangit.. Anyway, still I see her as one of the contenders sa three crowns. Pero surely, she will get the Miss Tourism Crown which is usually given before the announcement of the top 5 just like zorayda andam’s year na sya ang Miss Tourism at sya rin ang Bb Pilipinas Universe.

Joanne Padilla – The most charismatic candidate this year. After Carlene, I consider her as the second most prepared candidate this year. Sure semifinalist na sya… possible spoiler sa top five, pero I don’t think she will make it sa top five dahil kulang sa face value.

Gionna Cabrera – One of the prettiest candidates this year. No question, maganda talaga sya, pero just like Nikalaya, hindi mo makikita sa face at tayo nya na “I AM A WINNER”. Or baka super humble lang sya kaya hindi sya palaban tingnan. Pero amidst all these, no question na she will get one of the crowns this year. Tingnan mo sya from head to foot, maganda ang structure ng katawan nya maliban sa kulang lang ng curve. I just hope and pray that after she wins, itrain ng mabuti itong babaeng ito para makikita sa lahat ng litrato nya ang phrase na “I AM A WINNER, AND I WILL GET THAT CROWN!”

Kristine Santiago – the most beautiful candidate this year. Syet.. natotomboy ako sa kanya ha!!!! She’s my Carla Balingit this year.

Maraming nagsasabing si Melanie Ediza ang Maricarl Tolosa Awardee this year. Pero I think it’s Mariflor Perez ang Maricarl Tolosa Awardee. I don’t think she will make it sa semifinal round.

Stephanie Magali - Okay sya,, palaban sya,, magaling umasta, at kilos beauty queen, kaso kulang talaga sa appeal at face value. I don’t think she will make it sa semifinal round.

At may appeal sya. She could be a possible spoiler sa line-up ng semifinalist.

Precious Quigaman – the third most prepared candidate this year. (Carlene first, Joanne Padilla second, precious third). Wow! Grabe, and syempre, one of course, next to Gionna when it comes to face value. Ovearll, ang ganda ng babaeng ito. Palaban, at nakikita mo talaga ang phrase na “I AM A WINNER” sa mukha nya. Ang problema lang talaga ay ang height. Sana bumili ka muna ng magic chinelas para tumangkad ka ng 1 inch man lang or two inches bago sumali ulit sa bb pilipinas. As much as I would like to give her one of the crowns, pero hindi talaga carry ang height nya. So hanging top five lang talaga si precious.. unless mag Kristine Alzar eksena sya!

Lois Montes – WOW WOW WOW! I heard this lady talk, at napahanga ako sa babaetang ito. The most articulate candidate of this year’s batch. Pilipinas Universe.

Maricris Franco – one of the least pretty among this year’s candidates. I don’t think she will make it sa semifinal round.

Semifinalists

1. Wendy Vadez
2. Johanna Rafbel Serrano
3. Monifer Samonte
4. Katherine Aban
5. Joanne Padilla

Kung 12 ang semifinalists
6. April Jean Manago
7. Allaine Assuncion

Alternate sa Semifinalist
1. Micaela Padilla

TOP FIVE

Kristine Santiago – 2nd Runner-Up
She could go as high as winning any of the three crowns kung ma ace nya ang interview round. Pero dahil medyo tagilid raw ito sa Q&A, hanging 2nd Runner-up lang ata sya.

Precious Lara Quigaman – 1st Runner-Up
Angat sya kay Kristine sa Q&A kaya 1st RU sya. Pero Kung ma ace nya ang Q&A, maging Kristine Alzar Awardee sya. Pero with her height, I think talagang 1st runner-up lang siguro sya.

Carlene Aguilar – Bb. Pilipinas International
Actually pwedi sya pang Bb Universe or Bb World, kaso pag dating sa Q&A feeling ko talbog sya kay Gionna at Melanie, so talagang maging Bb International lang sya. Unless ma ace nya ang interview, she could go as high as winning the Bb. Pilipinas Universe crown considering na she’s the most prepared candidate this year. Sya ang alternate ko sa Bb. Pilipinas Universe at World crown.

Melanie Ediza – Bb. Pilipinas World
Just like the feeling that I had last year with Karla Bautista, feeling ko rin nakalaang na kay Melanie ang Bb Universe Crown. Just like Karla, pareho silang hindi masyadong maganda. Pero their type of beauty ang nanalo ng Bb World. Apart from this Bb. Pilipinas Universe during the coronation night.

Pilipinas Universe.

My Mock Winners:

Bb. Pilipinas-UNIVERSE – Gionna Cabrera

For me she is the best for the crown. She has the height, beauty, the mdoeliing experience and the eloquence. Like Miriam, she can be transformed if given the proper training. I think if we send her to Bangkok, she might have a good chance of breaking into the semis. I believe that among the 23 candidates,. Gionna is our best bet. We just have to give her the support and training. With serene confidence, I can see her making an impact to the Thai people and the judges. She is the epitome of the Western belle – a beautiful, articulate mestiza and the Eastern damsel – demure and classy

Bb. Pilipinas-WORLD – Carlene Aguilar

Like Gionna, Carlene has the height and the personality for the World pageant. I feel that she is more suited for the Sanya pageant due to her Chinese ethnicity and her drive. Miss World is an unpredictable pageant and I do not mind taking the risk with her. Morley has not given us any hint whether a Filipina can take the crown anytime so maybe this will be the year for us to do that.

Bb. Pilipinas-INTERNATIONAL – Katherine Aban

My gut tells me that she is the best choice for the Japan based contest. She is tall, has a fair complexion and can move like a gazelle. Japanese and Chinese judges will go for her looks. Her lack of interview skills is not a significant element for the Miss International competition. I think she will make waves in Japan and China

Bb. Pilipinas-TOURISM – Precious Quigaman

She is poised to take a crown but I do not believe that with her height that she will make it big in any of the three major crowns. I will not venture to send her to any of the pageants. With her beauty and zest, she will be a good ambassadress for our country in the tourism arena.

Runners-up: Joanna Rafbel Serrano and Mariflor Samonte

Miss Photogenic: Carlene Aguilar
Best in Swimsuit: Precious Quigaman
Best in Evening Gown: Gionna Cabrera
Miss Close-up Smile: Carlene Aguilar
Miss Vaseline Healthy Skin: Gionna Cabrera
Miss PAL Sunniest Personality: Carlene Aguilar
Miss Ponds: Katherine Aban
Miss Slimmers World: Precious Quigaman
Miss Avon: Gionna Cabrera
Miss Redbull Supreme: Amuerfina Koc

parading the candidate in a two piece suit on the streets of quezon city is nothing but an insult to the word PILIPINA, we maybe on a liberal society but respecting our values specially what Pilipina stands for. Somehow in this crazy world we forgot that we are Filipinos, who value morals and respect. The word BINIBINI is a respected word meaning " honest, beautiful, god fearing ang morally upright. You gave the candidate no choice in this matter, are they consulted in showing their skins in the street of Quezon City? My Gulay, Pls do not forget that we are Filipinos not Americans or any other people on earth. This is not hipocrasy, this is the moral values that we Filipinos must face or must exersice, otherwise we are nothing as a society or as a race. This pageant supposed to be showing the real Filipina, if you think or believe that showing their skin on the street like you are trying to promote a product or sell a commodity is the real Filipina, my God we Filipinos really have a catasthropic identity and moral crisis. uhhh....la..la......

THE 25 finalists in Binibining Pilipinas 2005 all look forward to "upholding the pageant's legacy of relevance through charity work."

"I believe it's important to have not just beauty and brains but also a lot of heart to help the poor," said 22-year-old Stephanie Florence Magali, one of the finalists. She recently passed the board exams for medical technicians.

University of the Philippines graduate Lois Montes, 25, a statuesque looker from Cebu, and Allaine Christi Asuncion, 23, expressed high regard for the pageant, now in its 42nd year, because of its focus on charity work.

Monifer Samonte, 23, who's into designing books, said she joined the competition "not just to develop my personality, but to make a difference by helping others." Gionna Cabrera, 23, holds an integrated marketing communications degree from the University of Asia and the Pacific. She said joining the pageant "gives me a chance to be a goodwill ambassador. I want to show the world what a great country the Philippines is."

Not surprisingly, most of the ladies are newcomers to beauty competitions. There's Mari-Flor "Hazel" Perez, 22; Melanie Ediza, 22, a licensed nurse; Aulorence Alipoon, 23; Marie May Rosalien Paloma, 24; Wendy Valdez, 22; and Angelique Gustanski, 21.

April Jean Manago, 23, said she was grateful for the chance to take a career break. "Now I'm able to do something fun, exciting, relevant and positive."

The four youngest candidates-Joanna Rumohr, a student from the Far Eastern University, and Kristine Santiago, both 18; and Gwennaelle Ruais of De La Salle University and MarJane Dela Cruz, from Baliwag University, both 19-agree that women should, as soon as they can, use their talents to help others.

Some candidates have joined previous Bb. Pilipinas pageants. They are: Katherin Aban, 23, from La Union; Joanna Rafbel Serrano, 23; and Precious Lara Quigaman, 23-year-old freelance web writer.

Two candidates hope to be lawyers someday: 20-year-old Ricamarie Ann Taylor, and 24-year-old Ameurfina Koc.

Carlene Aguilar, 23, who's half Chinese, recently won in a Hong Kong pageant. Joan Padilla, 23, was a runner-up in the 1999 Supermodel search. Maricris Franco, 24, won in a pageant in Taguig last year. Ma. Micaela Isabel Padilla, 21, has done some modeling in Europe.

Only three out of the 25 hopefuls will win Bb. Pilipinas beauty titles and represent the country in international competitions. This year, a special title, Miss Tourism, is being given in cooperation with the Department of Tourism.

The pageant will be held on March 19 at the Araneta Coliseum.

Welcome 2005! The long awaited world event that is Miss Universe is back with more surprises and modifications! This year, Paula Shugart confirmed that Thailand, an Asian country shall serve as host and Donald Trump had decided not to take any actor or actress as jurors for the main event but instead replace the panel with members of the Miss Universe Organization who have say and knowledge on how to pick the right winner.

This is the second time the beauty pageant has been held in the Land of Smiles, the last occasion was in 1992. The big day has been set for Tuesday, May 31 starting from 9am – which makes it 9pm Monday in New York. DTC Group, a joint working team specially set up for the event and that counts Bangkok Television and Radio (Channel 7), BBTV Productions and Matching Studio as its members will be responsible for the whole event from May 11, when the contestants arrive the kingdom up to May 31.

Miss Universe president Paula M. Shugart said that although Thailand was hit by the tsunami she is confident the Kingdom is ready to play host. “The host country will have a good impact on its tourism.”
Shugart first visited Thailand when she was 12 years old and remembers how impressed she was by the peoples’ generosity and kindness. “Young women from around the world will experience what I experienced here. It will be a once in a lifetime to participate in the world-renowned event. And they will return home as beauty ambassadors to promote Thailand.”

From May 11 to 31, the contestants will join various activities and visit tourist attractions from north to south. The lovely ladies will head south to the six provinces hit by the tsunami, prepare a video presentation and take part activities in southern provinces. A nine-minute Thailand showcase will also be filmed to promote tourism and will be broadcast at the pageant.

The theme of the big day will be “Modern Thai”, according to Matching Studio director Somchai Cheewasutthanon. “The show will be an extravaganza that blends the unique Thai élan with international style.” The Miss Universe Pageant 2005 will be held at the Impact Arena in Muang Thong Thani.
Meanwhile, the said decision of Donald Trump will bring new surprises to the spot light. I just hope that the a rightful winner shall emerge among the 88. Last year, an Australian model by the name of Jennifer Hawkins captured the crown by a laughing unorganized answer during the final interview round. Jennifer stated that she will choose to be born today with the sex of a woman because women have a lot of say in today’s society. Her answer was not even true to other countries and she won by that!

This simply shows that even you are unprepared in the interview round as long as you are pretty and a modern type of beauty; you can still grab the crown with ease. The Miss Universe Organizers should look at this because “what beauty is without brains?” Anyway, Jennifer still proved that she deserved it. Miss Universe favors the modern type of beauty… urbanized and well-educated women who have the beauty and the sincerity to promote charity around the globe.

On the other hand, my current picks as of the moment (March 15, 2005) are:

(1) VENEZUELA, Monica Spears

(11) BELIZE, Andrea Elrington
(12) GERMANY, Natalie Ackermann
(13) PUERTO RICO, Cynthia Olivarra

Alternates:

(2) EL SALVADOR,

IN THE BB. PILIPINAS PAGEANT ITSELF SO THEY COULD BE JUDGED BY A PANEL OF JUDGES, PROCLAIMED AND CROWNED OFFICIALLY AND WITNESSED BY THE WHOLE COUNTRY!

JUST LIKE BEFORE (ANNUALLY, SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1973), THE BB. PILIPINAS-MAJA INTERNATIONAL AND TOURISM INTERNATIONAL MUST ALWAYS BE MAJOR TITLES OF THE ANNUAL BB. PILIPINAS PAGEANT!

Ms. STELLA MARQUEZ DE ARANETA, KINDLY INCLUDE THE 2 MAJOR TITLES IN THE 2005 BB. PILIPINAS CORONATION THIS COMING SATURDAY SO WE COULD HAVE THE "MAGIC 5" OR THE "LUCKY 7" WINNERS (that include the 1ST & 2ND runners-up).

MUCHAS GRACIAS!!!

Follow this link. This was in The Philippines Daily inquirer website. I'm super pissed at this two lesbians. After reading this article. This two diffinately have attitude problems and should be banned from the pageant if they tried out again.

BUENAS DIAZ TO ALL!

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU, WORLDPHILANTHROPIST!

THE UNIQUE AND EXOTIC MISS MAJA INTERNATIONAL PAGEANT (ORIGIN IS SPAIN IN 1965) IS NOW HELD YEARLY (NOW BASED IN SAN JUAN, THE CAPITAL CITY OF PUERTO RICO).

THE BB. PILIPINAS - MAJA INTERNATIONAL TITLE MUST ALWAYS BE ONE OF THE MAJOR TITLES IN THE BB. PILIPINAS PAGEANT, ESPECIALLY NOW THAT OUR COUNTRY (THE PHILIPPINES) HAS ALREADY PRODUCED NUMEROUS AWARDEES AND THE FOLLOWING MS. MAJA INT'L WINNERS:

2 1ST RUNNERS-UP: NANETTE MACAPAGAL PRODIGALIDAD (1973) & ONLY LAST YEAR, MARGARET ANN BAYOT (2004);

2 2ND RUNNERS-UP: MARIA LUISA GONZALES (1985) & JEANNE THERESE HILARIO (1989);

1 3RD RUNNER-UP: PACITA GUEVARRA (1974)
1 4TH RUNNER-UP: ANNETE LIWANAG (1975)

I AND MY FRIENDS WOULD LIKE TO APPEAL TO MS. STELLA MARQUEZ DE ARANETA THAT THE BB. PILIPINAS CHARITIES, INC. (BPCI) SHOULD NOT HANDPICK OUR PHILIPPINE REPRESENTATTIVE TO THE MS. MAJA INT'L PAGEANT.

IT IS JUST PROPER AND FITTING THAT HER (BB. PILIPINAS-MAJA INT'L) SELECTION SHOULD TAKE PLACE IN THE BB. PILIPINAS PAGEANT ITSELF (DONE ANNUALLY JUST LIKE BEFORE SINCE 1973) & BE INCLUDED AS ONE OF THE MAJOR TITLES AGAIN, SAME WITH THE BB. PILIPINAS-TOURISM INTERNATIONAL TITLE, SINCE WE ARE ALSO SENDING OUR COUNTRY'S REPRESENTATIVE TO THE ANNUAL MISS TOURISM INTERNATIONAL PAGEANT.

BY DOING SO, THERE WOULD NOW BE THE "MAGIC 5" WINNERS PLUS THE 1ST & 2ND RUNNERS-UP! (A TOTAL OF 7 WINNERS)

LIKE WORLD PHILANTHROPIST SAID, THE (BPCI), CHAIRED BY MS. ARANETA, SHOULD BE GENEROUS ENOUGH (BY ADDING THE 2 MAJOR TITLES AGAIN) TO GIVE 2 MORE CHANCES AND MAKE 2 MORE LADIES ECSTATIC, VERY HAPPY & FULFILLED ON THE PAGEANT NIGHT BY LETTING THEM ACHIEVED THEIR FONDEST DREAMS IN LIFE--TO BE CROWNED AND BECOME A NATIONAL BEAUTY QUEEN!

WE STILL HAVE ENOUGH TIME (5 MORE DAYS TO GO) TO MAKE THE 2 MORE CROWNS FOR THE 2 MORE MAJOR TITLES--BB. PILIPINAS-MAJA INTERNATIONAL & BB. PILIPINAS-TOURISM INTERNATIONAL THAT WOULD COMPLETE THE "MAGIC 5" WINNERS!!!

TO MS. STELLA MARQUEZ DE ARANETA: MADAME, PLEASE CONSIDER AND GRANT OUR EARNEST REQUESTS!!!

MUCHAS GRACIAS!!!

THE 2004 MISS MAJA INTERNATIONAL PAGEANT IN COLOMBIA, SOUTH AMERICA

MARGARET ANN "MAAN" BAYOT, the 2004 BB. PILIPINAS-INTERNATIONAL, narrowly missed bringing home the 2004 MISS MAJA INTERNATIONAL CROWN from Colombia!

Bayot, who became an instant crowd favorite with her strong showing during the pageant (April 11, 2004), finished second to MS. COLOMBIA and now MISS MAJA INTERNATIONAL SANDRA SANCHEZ. MS. CANADA NATALIE GLEBOVA placed 2nd runner-up in the unique international beauty pageant that pays tribute to world-renowned Spanish painter DON FRANCISCO DE GOYA, most noted for his masterpieces, the DRESSED MAJA and the NAKED MAJA. Other winners were MS. PARAGUAY TANIA DOMANIZKI, 3rd runner-up; and MS. BOLIVIA PATRICIA ESCOBAR URIBE, 4th runner-up.

Historically, the MS. MAJA INTERNATIONAL (or LA MAJA INTERNACIONAL) PAGEANT was organized in 1965 in Madrid, Spain. The Spanish word "MAJA" is the ultimate compliment to women in Zaragoza and all over Spain. To be called MAJA is to be recognized in beauty, brains and charm and since 1965, the ASSOCIATION GOYA INTERNATIONAL, a non-profit organization, has formed what is known today as THE MOST EDUCATIONALLY SLANTED PAGEANT IN THE WORLD and THE ONLY GLOBAL HISPANIC-INSPIRED PRESTIGIOUS BEAUTY PAGEANT. Other Latin or Hispanic-inspired pageants are regional (only Spanish-speaking countries--only South America, Spain & parts of Europe are involved) but the MS. MAJA INTERNATIONAL is GLOBAL--joined by nations of ALL CONTINENTS in the world.

The Association Goya International has made a point TO PROMOTE TOURISM IN THE HOST COUNTRY as well as TO ESTABLISH BRIDGES AMONG CANDIDATES THAT MAY LEAD TO BETTER DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS.

Maan joined the list of NOTED FILIPINAS who have fared well in the past Ms. Maja International Pageants, Filipinas who brought honors for the Philippines and made the country proud.
MS. MAJA INTERNATIONAL WINNERS/AWARDEES:

NANETTE MACAPAGAL PRODIGALIDAD (1ST RUNNER-UP, 1973)
PACITA GUEVARRA (3rd Runner-Up, 1974)
ANETTE LIWANAG (4th Runner-Up, 1975)
MARIA LUISA GONZALES (2nd Runner-Up & Best in National Costume, 1985)
JEANNE THERESE HILARIO (2nd Runner-Up, 1989)

AVA QUIBRANZA (Semifinalist & Best in National Costume, 1979)
MARIA ASUNCION SPIRIG (Semifinalist & Best in National Costume, 1980)
JOSEPHINE BAUTISTA (Ms. Maja Popularidad & Best in National Costume, 1981)
MARIA ANNA CADIZ (Semifinalist & Best in National Costume, 1983)
CATHERINE JANE BRUMITT (Semifinalist, 1984)
MARIA CHRISTINA RAMOS RECTO (Ms. Maja Talent & Best in National Costume, 1986)
MARIA LUISA JIMENEZ (Semifinalist, 1987)

MARIA MURIEL MORAL (MS. MAJA SIMPATICA & BEST IN NATIONAL COSTUME, 1988)
SELINA MANALAD (Ms. Maja Popularidad & Ms. Maja Elegancia, 1991)
TIFFANY CUNA (Semifinalist, 1995)

BB. PILIPINAS-MAJA INTERNATIONAL AS A MAJOR TITLE OF THE BB. PILIPINAS PAGEANT

ATTENTION: Ms. STELLA MARQUEZ DE ARANETA
Chairperson, Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc.

As YOU ARE A HISPANIC TOO, we would like to request you to kindly restore the BB. PILIPINAS-MAJA INTERNATIONAL as one of the major titles in the 2005 BB. PILIPINAS CORONATION/PAGEANT.

The MISS MAJA INTERNATIONAL PAGEANT (LA MAJA INTERNACIONAL) is NOW HELD ANNUALLY AGAIN . It is THE ONLY GLOBAL HISPANIC-INSPIRED PRESTIGIOUS BEAUTY PAGEANT. Other Latin/Latino or Hispanic-inspired pageants are regional/not global (only Spanish-speaking countries--only Central & South America, Spain & parts of Europe are involved) but the MS. MAJA INTERNATIONAL IS GLOBAL--JOINED BY NATIONS OF ALL CONTINENTS OF THE WORLD (BY CANADA-NORTH AMERICA; MEXICO-CENTRAL AMERICA; BRAZIL-SOUTH AMERICA; SWEDEN-EUROPE; EGYPT-AFRICA; RUSSIA & CHINA-ASIA; NEW ZEALAND & AUSTRALIA-OCEANIA).

Besides, it is A UNIQUE WORLD/GLOBAL PAGEANT for IT FEATURES THE EXOTIC MANTILLA & COMB (A LACE OR SILK SCARF WORN OVER THE HEAD AND SHOULDERS BY WOMEN IN HISPANIC COUNTRIES).

IT ALSO USES AS ITS PAGEANT MEDIUM OF COMMUNICATION THE LOVELY ESPANOL OR SPANISH, THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE OF CULTURE AND ROMANCE, AND DEEMED AS THE LOVELIEST, MOST ROMANTIC AND POETIC-SOUNDING LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD!

Moreover, THE MISS MAJA INTERNATIONAL PROMOTES WORLD ARTS THROUGH ITS ARTISTIC AND CULTURAL PROJECTS AND ACTIVITIES (AS IN GOYA'S LA MAJA PAINTINGS/MASTERPIECES & LITERARY WORKS PROMOTIONS).

JUST LIKE BEFORE (GIVEN YEARLY, SINCE ITS INCEPTION IN 1973), THE BB. PILIPINAS-MAJA INTERNATIONAL TITLE MUST ALWAYS BE ONE OF THE MAJOR TITLES OF THE BB. PILIPINAS PAGEANT!

WE WOULD MAKE ANOTHER LADY CANDIDATE VERY HAPPY AND FULFILLED TO WIN THIS ANOTHER MAJOR TITLE.

WE ARE HOPING THAT YOU WOULD GRANT OUR EARNEST REQUEST!

MUCHAS GRACIAS!

THE PRESS PRESENTATION OF THE 23 OFFICIAL CANDIDATES OF THE BB. PILIPINAS 2005 WAS HELD RECENTLY AT THE OASIS FLOATING RESTAURANT OF THE GATEWAY MALL AT THE ARANETA CENTER. PAOLO BEDIONES HOSTED THE EVENT AND THE STAND-OUTS DURING THE PRESS PRESENTATION WERE:

CARLENE AGUILAR - SHE REALLY HAVE A FLAWLESS SKIN AND OH BOY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL AMONG THIS YEAR'S BATCH! SURE WINNER FOR THE BB. PILIPINAS-UNIVERSE TITLE BECAUSE SHE IS THE MOST PREPARED AMONG THIS YEAR'S BATCH.

KRISTINE SANTIAGO - NEXT TO CARLENE AMONG THE MOST BEAUTIFUL IN THIS YEAR'S BATCH, SHE MIGHT PULL A SURPRISE AMONG THE FRONTRUNNERS AND BECOME ONE OF THE 5 FINALISTS!

MELANIE EDIZA - WOW! THIS GIRL KEEP ON IMPROVING HERSELF, THERE WAS NO MORE A HINT OF HER "MONAY FACE", SHE IS MORE BEAUTIFUL IN PERSON THAN IN PICTURES. SHE'S MY TOP BET FOR BB. PILIPINAS-WORLD TITLE.

GIONNA CABRERA - THOUGH HER BODY IS NOT THAT IMPRESSIVE, SHE HAS A BEAUTIFUL FACE, A STRONG CONTENDER FOR THE BB. PILIPINAS-WORLD TITLE.

PRECIOUS LARA QUIGAMAN - THIS GIRL IS REALLY THE PRESS AND GMA 7's FAVORITE! WHERE EVER SHE GO THE PRESS AND GMA 7's CAMERAMANS FOLLOWED HER. THE MOST IMPRESSIVE TRANSFORMATION AMONG THIS YEAR'S BATCH, THANKS TO HER WAVY HAIRSTYLE, SHE'S GOT THE X-FACTOR THAT MIRIAM QUIAMBAO HAS WHEN MIRIAM JOINED THE BB. PILIPINAS IN 1999. MY TOP BET FOR BB. PILIPINAS-INTERNATIONAL.

HONORABLE MENTION WERE THE FOLLOWING:

AMEURFINA KOC - EXOTIC BEAUTY WHO CAN BE A SURPRISE MAKING IT TO THE TEN SEMI-FINALISTS.

JOANNA PADILLA - NOT YOUR TYPICAL BEAUTY BUT SHE CAN DELIVER THE GOODS WHEN SHE NEEDED IT.

MARICRIS FRANCO - A DARKHORSE WHO MIGHT SPRING A SURPRISE TO BE AMONG THE TOP TEN SEMI-FINALISTS!

JOANNA RUMOHR - WHEN SHE JOINED THE MISS TEEN PHILIPPINES LAST YEAR AND BECOME THE FIRST RUNNER-UP, SHE WAS SURPRISED HERSELF GOING THAT FAR. SHE MIGHT AGAIN BE SURPRISED WITH HERSELF WHEN SHE WAS CHOSEN AMONG THE TOP TEN SEMI-FINALISTS!

KYLA PADILLA - ANOTHER EXOTIC BEAUTY AND WILL SPRING A SURPRISE THIS COMING MARCH 19TH.

THERE IS STILL ONE MORE CHANCE FOR THE PUBLIC TO SEE THESE LOVELY BINIBINIS AND THAT IS ON MARCH 13TH FOR THEIR PARADE OF BEAUTIES EVENT AT THE ARANETA CENTER. AFTER THE PARADE OF BEAUTIES EVENT, I WILL GIVE MY TOP THREE WINNERS AND THE REMAINING TWO RUNNER-UPS AND SEMI-FINALISTS.

Date Posted: 08:56:35 03/08/05 Tue

Could the organizers of the Philippine pageant of this MISS HAWAIIAN TROPIC INTERNATIONAL clarify these?

Is this Miss Hawaiian Tropic Int'l Pageant based in HAWAII (capital is Honolulu), a TROPICAL STATE of U.S.A., located in the Central Pacific Ocean, comprising the Hawaiian Islands?

Is it true that the producers of this int'l pageant rake in hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars from the enormous, worldwide sales of this tanning lotion?

THE HAWAIIAN TROPIC TANNING LOTION & OTHER HAWAIIAN TROPIC PERSONAL CARE & BEAUTY PRODUCTS is a MULTI-BILLION DOLLAR INDUSTRY globally!!

And so they made the pageant international TO INTRODUCE AND PROMOTE THE PRODUCTION AND SALES OF THE HAWAIIAN TROPIC TANNING LOTION GLOBALLY through the Miss Hawaiian Tropic Int'l Pageant?

The Organizers of this pageant SHOULD NOT USE the words HAWAIIAN TROPIC AS ITS TITLE BEING VIED BY DIFFERENT FOREIGN NATIONALS BECAUSE:

1) HAWAIIAN REFERS TO HAWAII, A TROPICAL STATE (ONLY A TINY STATE, ONLY ONE OF THE STATES!) OF U.S.A., COMPRISING THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS, LOCATED IN THE CENTRAL PACIFIC OCEAN. IT IS A NAME OF A SPECIFIC PLACE OR LOCATION, A TINY STATE CALLED HAWAII.

THOUGH THE ORGANIZERS CLAIM THAT IT DOESN'T DISCRIMINATE ETHNICITY OR THE NATIONALITY OF THE CANDIDATES, STILL THE TITLE DOES NOT SPEAK FOR ITSELF!

BECAUSE IF THE WINNER IS A EUROPEAN--SHE IS DEFINITELY NOT A HAWAIIAN!!! A BIG CONTRADICTION!!!

2) THE TITLE OF THIS PAGEANT IS THE SAME AS THE NAME OF HAWAIIAN TROPIC, THE TANNING LOTION!!!

WHENEVER YOU HEAR MISS HAWAIIAN TROPIC INTERNATIONAL, WHAT COMES TO MIND IS THE NAME OF THE TANNING LOTION THAT THEY PROMOTE (THE SALES) INTERNATIONALLY OR GLOBALLY THROUGH THIS PAGEANT.

I ALWAYS USE THE HAWAIIAN TROPIC LOTION. I ALWAYS BUY IT AT WATSONS STORE INSIDE ANY SM MALL.

Serna: A glimpse of world-class beauties
By Roger Serna
Sounds & images

A few weeks back, Cebuanos had a glimpse of the svelte, statuesque and lovely candidates of this year’s Bb. Pilipinas beauty pageant. As most, if not all, of us know three major winners will be picked on Mar. 19 to represent the country in the Miss Universe, Miss World and Miss International beauty tilts, not to mention the other contests participated in by the country where the runners-up and other standouts are chosen to join.

Just last Saturday, the Miss Philippines - Region 7 candidates appeared on ABS-CBN’s Sabado Na Gyud show and met the press at the Hamabar hall of the City Sports Club Cebu. The winner will join the national contest, which will be held soon.

After the two groups, which beauty contest organizations and their respective hopefuls will find their way to Cebu next? Will more regional searches of national contests sprout in the island province (before it is splintered into smaller local government units? God forbid!)?

Speaking of regional searches, the “Mossimo Bikini Summit” will have its first Cebu Search on Mar. 19 at the Cebu Yacht Club in Lapu-Lapu city.

From the batch, three pairs of winners will join the national contest and vie for the ultimate honor of being the best looking gent and lady in bikini. We also overheard the organizers say that some non-winners will still have the chance to join the national tilt if they get the nod from the national search organizers.

As mentioned in my previous column, Cebu-based designers Wendell Quesido, Raymon Kuan and Salvador Malto will provide the outfits in the three segments. During the press presentation, Wendell described his creations as “futuristic glamour.”

Sal will have the swimwear round, while Raymon will dress up the candidates in the personality round. Philchimex Fashion Int’l will make the appropriate accessories for the different segments.

During the press preview, the candidates and the guests “sampled” the intricately-designed accessories, they then expressed delight and appreciation at how local and indigenous materials had been transformed into wonderful works of art.

Incidentally, the Mossimo Bikini Summit Cebu Search coincides with the coronation night of the Bb. Pilipinas, which will be beamed on GMA 7. Now, beauty contest enthusiasts will have to decide which of the two contests have to be prioritized. In two weeks, you have to make your choice or find ways to enjoy both, if ever possible.

****

Speaking of contests, Visayans for sure have their own bets in the ongoing “Search for Star in A Million” on ABS-CBN which has at least three Cebuanos and a few others from the other provinces in the Visayas in the “Champions League,” which was originally supposed to number only 10 but which rose to 12 when three equally talented wild card contenders joined the first nine finalists.

Two of the wild card contenders are from Cebu, namely: Ryan Racal and VJ (what’s his family name again?). Christine Fernandez entered the league without having to pass the wild card process.

Starting yesterday, text votes were already accepted to help the contestants attain their dreams. Some friends in this paper are rooting for Ryan.

Those of you who are Smart or Talk and Text subscribers, who have the budget to spare, and are generous enough to help a fellow-Cebuano, here’s how to do it. Send STAR to 231 and see your bet rise to reach his or her goal, thereby adding another feather to Cebu’s already well-decorated musical cap.

Whether it will be acknowledged or not in the end, you know you are part of the attainment of that elusive stardom. That alone is already a consolation. Or do you want more? Suit yourself.

A Binibini aspirant’s dilemma

When the new batch of (2005) Bb. Pilipinas hopefuls are presented today at the Oasis Floating Restaurant in Gateway (the newest "in" place in Araneta Center, Cubao, Quezon City), Gwenaelle Ruais will surely stand out mainly because of her height. At 6"1", Gwen is the tallest among the candidates, three of whom will be named Bb. Pilipinas-Universe, -World and -International at the grand finals at the Araneta Coliseum on March 19 (Saturday).

A finalist in the recent MTV VJ Hunt, Gwen is in a dilemma: The Binibini candidates are billeted at a five-star hotel for two weeks and the authorities of La Salle where Gwen is a B.S. Management student won’t allow her to miss her classes that long. Will Gwen choose school and quit the contest?

Discovered by beauty expert Garre Blanco, Gwen is one of the six candidates endorsed by Boyet Blas (relative of the owners of LEA Productions) of Mabuhay Beauty. The five others are: Gionna Cabrera (5’10"), Joanne Padilla (5’9"), Angelique Gustanki (5"9"), Mariflor Perez (5’8") and Rica Taylor (5’7"). * * *

A few days from now, three lovely queens will once again be crowned to
represent our country to the three prestigious beauty pageants.

Each year, we place our high hopes to these lovely girls to bring home the crown
or just be put in centerstage for the semifinals.

This year,a number of views have been shared about the roster of candidates.
Some say, we have a weak batch, others put it as mediocre.Nevertheless, it cant be denied
that there's still "stand-out" so to speak.

Basing from the pictures and press releases from forum boards..

Here are my picks

FAB 5

GWEN RUAIS

This statuesque beauty never fails to impress pageant enthusiasts!
A rare find in philippine pageant history.

most-UNIVERSE crown
least-WORLD crown

GIONNA CABRERA

Flawless beauty matched with intelligience. How can one missed her name
for the top spot?

most-UNIVERSE crown
least-INTERNATIONAL crown

ALLAINE ASUNCION
APRIL MANAGO

Stunning beauties with less publicity hype! These ladies can
definetly steal the coveted crowns as well.

most-INTERNATIONAL
least-2nd RU

CARLENE AGUILAR

The winning attitude plus the "experience" factor! If MARICAR and MAAN
topped last year's coronation night,Carlene might follow their feat

most-WORLD
least-INTERNATIONAL

i just hope that these ladies will shine come pageant night

Hello Guys! Here's the interesting and exciting (fast-approaching) event on your favorite NONSHOWBIZ CELEBRITIES--THE REIGNING AND THE WOULD-BE BB. PILIPINAS QUEENS!

THE 2005 BINIBINING PILIPINAS GRAND CORONATION AND PROCLAMATION!

Watch THE 2005 BB. PILIPINAS, the Philippines' Premier and Most Prestigious, Philanthropic Beauty Pageant!

Witness in a glittering and spectacular presentation the Philippines' reigning national beauty queens, Maricar Balagtas (2004 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe); Maria Karla Bautista (2004 Bb. Pilipinas-World); and Margaret Ann Bayot (2004 Bb. Pilipinas-International), crown this year's new Bb. Pilipinas Queens.

The prestigious crowns and titles to be conferred to the new queens are:

2005 BB. PILIPINAS - UNIVERSE
2005 BB. PILIPINAS - WORLD
2005 BB. PILIPINAS - GLOBE
2005 BB. PILIPINAS - INTERNATIONAL
2005 BB. PILIPINAS - MAJA INTERNATIONAL
2005 BB. PILIPINAS - TOURISM INTERNATIONAL

This year and onwards there would be no more crown and scepter relinquishments for, unlike the BRITISH MONARCHY and OTHER MONARCHIES/ROYALTIES in the world wherein the QUEEN'S AND KING'S CROWN AND REIGN are JUST HANDED DOWN or HEREDITARY (INHERITED ONLY), the BB. PILIPINAS CROWN AND REIGN ARE EARNED! The new queens would be bestowed with the new crowns. The outgoing queens (same with the 1964 to 2003 Bb. Pilipinas Queens/Titleholders) would become the timeless keepers of the prestigious Bb. Pilipinas Crown!

The Bb. Pilipinas Beauty Pageant is a renowned, annual, fund-raising activity for projects that benefit the orphans, indigent families and other less fortunate members of the Philippine society. It also conducts medical and dental missions and relief operations in times of calamities.

The Bb. Pilipinas Pageant is organized by the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc., a philanthropic and humanitarian foundation (founded/chaired by the divine lady and timeless world beauty, THE 1960 MISS INTERNATIONAL STELLA MARQUEZ DE ARANETA). It is committed to its NOBLE CAUSE -- TO UPLIFT THE PHILIPPINE SOCIETY AND TO BRING THE MESSAGE OF LOVE, HOPE, PEACE AND UNITY ACROSS THE FILIPINO NATION AND THROUGHOUT THE WORLD!

Subject: EXTENSIVE SUBJECTS: STARS ARE DECEIVERS!!! MISS WORLD GLOBAL VOTING--A BIG NO, NO!!!

You know guys I have an acquaintance who is a very famous, multi-awarded Hollywood movie star who has a big number of very avid fans and fanatics worldwide. She's a very good, very talented singer-actress. But what I really don't like about her is her character. In her movies and concerts, she has a very nice and charming personality. But off-camera/stage, when you meet her in person and talk with her face-to-face, 'god, she's so proud, conceited, contemptuous, pretentious and haughty!!! She acts as if she's a deity, as if she's the center of the universe who should be exalted and extolled, and thinks she deserves all the glory and accolades of this world!! In one occasion she said to me, “Hey, you must bow down and look up to me! I'm a STAR!!!” (She wasn't kidding. She said it in a serious and arrogant manner!). I told her, "Hey, why should I? YOU ARE JUST a STAR, JUST A VERY TINY DOT IN THE WHOLE, IMMENSELY INFINITE UNIVERSE!!!”

The English language is so rich. A single word could mean so many different things. Take for example the word STAR, which means an actor or actress playing the leading the role, or an outstanding performer, especially a leading actor or actress. STARS ARE ONLY PUBLIC ENTERTAINERS/PERFORMERS/ARTIST (LOCAL OR FOREIGN MOVIE/TV, STAGE/THEATER ACTORS AND ACTRESSES, SINGERS AND DANCERS). They are likened to the stars for many of them are brilliant performers and they have avid fans (fanatics) who look up to them. Millions of people GO GAGA for or about entertainers! Maybe because STARS are so well-known because of their countless build ups (widely favorable or controversial, sensationalized, FABRICATED publicities) and exposures through print & broadcast media.

But definitely they are NOT the STARS, the LIFELESS & UNRESPONSIVE but shining, tiny dots that we see up in the sky, which are visible ONLY at night time (in DARKNESS!) and ONLY when the night sky is not cloudy! At DAYTIME (when there is light), STARS CAN NEVER SHINE! WE CAN NEVER SEE ANY STAR! There are NO STARS!

STARS ARE DECEIVERS!!!

From Earth (extremely distant--millions & millions of miles away!) we can see the radiance and charm of STARS, but behind their alluring luster (BEWARE!), in reality, just like our Sun, STARS EMIT SUPER, SUPER INTENSE & DESTRUCTIVE HEAT AND THEY ARE SUPER, SUPER INTENSELY & EXTREMELY HOT!!! (with super, super high temperature--millions of degree Celsius!!!). That's why SHOW BUSINESS or SHOWBIZ (where the STARS are), just like SOCIETY or HIGH SOCIETY (the rich & FASHIONABLE social class), THE BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE (the wealthy and famous people whose lifestyles are expensive or extravagant & WELL-PUBLICIZED), THE JET SET (an international social set of wealthy people who travel from one FASHIONABLE place to another), are regarded as and synonymous to HYPOCRISY, PRETENTION, GOSSIP/INTRIGUE, OVERBEARING PRIDE, SNOB/SNOBBERY (rebuffing or ignoring people or things that the rich regard as inferior, as in social status/culture, or seeking association with persons of higher social position and looking down on those considered inferior, or an offensive air of superiority, as in matters of taste or intellect), HAUTEUR (HAUGHTINESS & ARROGANCE), SUPERFICIALITY, VANITY & CONCEIT, FRIVOLITY & THE LIKES.

STARS ARE ONLY PUBLIC ENTERTAINERS/ARTISTS/PERFORMERS (ACTORS/ACTRESSES, SINGERS/DANCERS). THEY EXIST TO PLEASE AND ENTERTAIN THE PEOPLE. THEY ARE PAID TO REGALE THE PUBLIC. I admire and appreciate an entertainer if he/she is talented. But I AM NEVER AN AVID FAN OR A FANATIC OF ANY STAR/ENTERTAINER (actor/actress or singer)!

I WATCH SOME STARS ‘COZ I JUST WANT THEM TO ENTERTAIN ME. I WANT THE STARS TO GIVE ME THEIR BEST PERFORMANCES THAT ARE WORTH THE MONEY I PAID FOR THEIR MOVIES, SHOWS OR CONCERTS. I NEVER IDOLIZE ANY STAR!

Speaking of HIGH SOCIETY, it really exists. But how would you classify a person who is super rich (a hundreds-multimillionaire or a multibillionaire) like Microsoft's founder, BILL GATES, the richest man on Earth whose GREAT FORTUNE is NOT QUESTIONABLE, NOT ILL-GOTTEN! (unlike the world’s NOTORIOUS RICH!) but who is just simple/modest in his ways, low-keyed/low-profiled, not that fashionable or fashion-conscious & not pretentious?

IF YOU ARE RICH--AND YOU ARE FASHIONABLE, STYLISH, FLAMBOYANT, SOPHISTICATED, HYPOCRITE, SNOBBISH, HAUGHTY, OSTENTATIOUS & SUPERFICIAL, THEN YOU ARE VERY WELCOME TO JOIN “HIGH SOCIETY”! BUT IF YOU ARE JUST RICH--AND YOU HAVE THE OPPOSITE OF THE ABOVE TRAITS, THEN YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO BELONG TO “HIGH SOCIETY”!

As ENGLISH is the language of international business, science & technology, diplomacy, etc., it is the most widely spoken and understood language in the world. But ESPANOL or SPANISH is THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE OF CULTURE AND ROMANCE. SPANISH is considered as THE LOVELIEST, MOST ROMANTIC AND POETIC-SOUNDING LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD (being used as the medium of communication by LA MAJA INTERNACIONAL or MISS MAJA INTERNATIONAL, THE ONLY GLOBAL HISPANIC-INSPIRED PRESTIGIOUS BEAUTY PAGEANT).

In Central & South America & other parts of Europe, English is not spoken or hardly understood. That's why when we watch the live telecasts of the prestigious global pageants MISS UNIVERSE & MISS WORLD (both have a worldwide TV audience of more than 2 billion people), there are language translators for South Americans & Europeans (as what happened to MISS PERU, MARIA JULIA GARCIA, a Hispanic and the crowned 2004 MISS WORLD last December).

The 2004 Miss World Pageant added a new segment-the sports competition (A NOVELTY IN WORLD PAGEANTS!). It was amazing and amusing to see the lovely candidates showed their athletic prowess in different tough sports! The new MISS SPORT award went to MISS WALES.

Many people commented (& still debating) on the selection of the new Miss World queen via telephone, SMS text messages and internet worldwide voting (done for the first time) as unreliable and ineffective (not accurate). They said choosing the queen/winner of any global pageant should always be done by a panel of judges. Why?

Because WORLD OR GLOBAL (OR EVEN NATIONAL) BEAUTY QUEENS ARE NOT POLITICIANS! THE 2004 MISS WORLD QUEEN’S SELECTION HAD NO DIFFERENCE OR DISTINCTION FROM THE SYSTEMS NATIONS’ LEADERS/POLITICIANS (heads of states/countries, prime ministers, presidents, senators, solons, etc.) ARE CHOSEN OR ELECTED--THROUGH JUST VYING FOR THE HIGHEST/MOST NUMBER OF VOTES OR SIMPLY THRU POPULARITY (that’s why a famous, well-known showbiz person has always an advantage over other candidates). And there are UNSCRUPULOUS POLITICAL CANDIDATES who go up to the extent of massive VOTE BUYINGS and BALLOT SWITCHINGS resulting to the UNENDING PROTESTS of losers claiming they were cheated! Many also practice DOOR-TO-DOOR CAMPAIGNS locally/countrywide--being so nice & kind in wooing the voters--trying so hard to solicit & gain those votes (that are SO PRICELESS to them!) just to win the election (their aspired titles and positions)!! And when they won, driven by GREED and PERSONAL INTERESTS/AMBITIONS, many use their position and power to amass and acquire great wealth by graft and corruption!! Yes, there are sincere politicians who have genuine concerns for the welfare of their people and country but there are also MANY POLITICIANS WHO ALSO DO MANY GREAT THINGS (GREAT PROJECTS & GREAT PROGRAMS) for their respective nations & citizenry)--TO DISGUISE AND OFFSET THEIR GREAT, HIDDEN, FRAUDULENT DEEDS!! Well, that's the reality, guys!

Back to MISS WORLD, the world received replies from the SMS text voting that "you can vote as many as you can!"--meaning a single cellphone unit/user can send unlimited votes for a certain candidate. And if one is able to send a thousand votes, he can (REDUNDANT VOTES!). This is not fair if a country has a very huge population (such as China w/ almost 2 billion people)! But China didn’t win. The Miss World Organization said they had a “formula” to accurately compute for the global votes but they never explained the said “formula” during the coronation night.

Many people in the world say that, UNLIKE the BRITISH MONARCHY and other monarchies/royalties in the world wherein the queen’s and king’s crown and reign are JUST HANDED DOWN or HEREDITARY (INHERITED ONLY), the MISS WORLD and other global beauty queens' crowns, titles and reigns are EARNED!!! World or int’l (including national) beauty queens must always be judged and chosen through their ACTUAL PERFORMANCES--through their brains, physical and inner beauties (attitude & character), talents, abilities, totality of personality etc.--NOT just hereditary, NOT by just getting the MOST number of global votes and NOT by just popularity .

THE OFFICIAL SELECTON OF ALL WORLD/GLOBAL OR INTERNATIONAL BEAUTY QUEENS MUST ALWAYS BE DONE BY THE PANEL OF JUDGES (RENOWNED FIGURES)--NOT THROUGH REDUNDANT WORLDWIDE VOTING (VIA TELEPHONE, SMS TEXT MESSAGING AND INTERNET).

Bueno, my post is lengthy and extensive. Anyone of you who reads this, I do appreciate the time you spent!
MUCHAS GRACIAS!

Exciting ‘firsts’ in the Bb. Pilipinas Pageant
FUNFARE By Ricardo F. Lo
The Philippine Star 03/05/2005

The three new Bb. Pilipinas beauties (Universe, World and International) will be chosen in the usual glamour-and-glitter ceremonies at the Araneta Coliseum on March 19 (a Saturday), to be covered live by GMA 7.

As is Funfare’s "tradition," I’m putting out a special report by Funfare’s "beauty experts" Felix Manuel, Joey Cezeare, Gery Yumping and Francis Calubaquib who have drawn a list of the "firsts" in the pageant which is marking its 42nd anniversary this year.

The annual search is an ongoing project of the Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI), a non-stock, non-profit organization with a humanitarian mission (raising funds for the less fortunate, etc.), founded by Madame Stella Marquez-Araneta.

On Tuesday, March 8, the official candidates of this year’s pageant will be presented to the press at the Oasis Floating Restaurant, located at the second floor of Gateway in Cubao, Quezon City, just across the Araneta Coliseum. Will one of the three major winners duplicate the record of their predecessors?

Here’s the "beauty experts’" special report:

The past editions of the pageants have produced international winners who include:

• Gloria Maria Aspillera Diaz, 1969 Miss Universe

• Maria Margarita Roxas Moran, 1973 Miss Universe

• Aurora McKenny Pijuan, 1970 Miss International

• Mimilanie Laurel Marquez, 1979 Miss International

• Joanne Zapanta Santos, 1997 Miss Tourism International

• Maricar Manalaysay Balagtas, 2001 Miss Globe

• Michelle Cueva Reyes, 2001 Miss Tourism International and 2002 Miss Tourism World

• Kristin Reyes Alzar, 2002 Miss Tourism International-Ukraine Black Sea

• Noella May Buhion Evangelista, 2003 Queen of Tourism International

Here are some "firsts" in the history of the Bb. Pilipinas pageant:

• The first pageant was held in 1964 with just 15 delegates. Ma. Myrna Elizabeth Sese Panlilio won the first Bb. Pilipinas title.

• Elvira Gonzalez was the first to compete again. She was second runner-up in 1964 and fourth runner-up the following year. She is also the first Bb. Pilipinas alumnus to have a daughter (Charlene Gonzalez Bonnin) who competed and won the pageant.

• In 1965 Louise Vail Aurelio was the first Bb. Pilipinas winner to enter the semifinals of the Miss Universe pageant (Blesilda Candida Guia Epifania mueler Ocampo was the first Filipina to make it into the semifinals of the Miss Universe pageant in 1954).

• Louise’s first runner-up, Isabel Barnett Santos, became the first winner of the Ms Photogenic award in the pageant and also became the first Bb. Pilipinas runner-up to compete in an international pageant.

• The pageant is also the first to produce numerous award-winning actresses: Elizabeth Luciano Winsett (aka Liza Lorena), first runner- up in 1966; Pilar Delilah Veloso Pilapil (1967 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe); Gloria Diaz; Melanie Marquez; and Jessie Alice Selones Dixson (1986 Bb. Pilipinas-International).

• In 1968 the BPCI acquired the franchise of the Miss International pageant. A separate pageant was held to choose the country’s representative. Nenita Tuazon Ramos won and was given the title of Miss Philippines. She was also the first Bb. alumnus to enter the semi- finals of the Miss International pageant.

• It was in 1969 the pageant produced two winners. The winners of the Bb. Pilipinas and Miss Philippines titles would compete in the Miss Universe and Miss International pageants respectively.

• Nelia Sancho, Gloria Diaz’s runner-up, was handpicked in 1971 to compete in the Queen of the Pacific pageant; she won.

• In 1970 a separate pageant was held to choose the country’s representative to the Miss Young International pageant in Japan. Carmencita Hufano Avecilla became the first winner of the Miss Young Pilipinas title.

• 1970 was also the pageant’s first televised edition. The late Joey Lardizabal hosted it.

• It was in 1971 when three winners were first crowned: Bb. Pilipinas, Miss Philippines and Miss Young Pilipinas.Afew months after the pageant, a special title of Miss Charming Philippines was also given to first runner-up, Milagros Guttierez.

• 1971 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Vida Valentina Fernandez Doria was the first Filipina to win the Miss Photogenic title in any international pageant. Evelyn Camus, Miss Philippines, was the first Filipina to win runner-up honors in the Miss International pageant.

• In 1972 the titles were classified Bb. Pilipinas-Universe and Bb. Pilipinas-International. Both carried the name of the founding organization.

• 1972 Bb. Pilipinas-International Yolanda Adriatico Dominguez (second runner-up in the Miss International pageant) was the first ever Filipina winner in the national costume competition in any of the international beauty pageants.

• 1973 marked the first year Bb. Pilipinas sent a delegate to the Miss Maja Internacional pageant in Spain. First runner-up Nanette Macapagal Prodigalidad was our country’s bet.

• Maria Margarita Moran was the first Filipina ever to win both the Miss Photogenic and Miss Universe crown. She also became the first non-American Miss Universe winner to crown her successor in her native land.

• 1974 was the first year when four queens were crowned. (Bb. Universe, International, Maja and Young). Guada Sanchez Bb. Pilipinas-Universe winner became the first Filipina to compete in her homeland during the 1974 Miss Universe pageant. She also attended at the 1974 Miss USA pageant to promote the event.

• The 1975 edition of the pageant had the highest number of candidates at 53. Eventual Bb. Pilipinas-Universe Rosemarie Singson Brosas, an usherette during the 1974 Miss Universe pageant, arrived on the last day of screening straight from the airport. She won as Miss Photogenic and the first ever Best in Swimsuit award. She later finished fifth in the Miss Universe pageant making her the first Bb. product to land a runner-up position (Lalaine Bennett, Miss Philippines 1963, was the first Filipina to land in the final five of the Miss Universe pageant).

• In 1977 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe, Anna Lorraine Tomas Kier, became the first Bb. to be crowned by a foreign Miss Universe winner, Rina Messinger of Israel.

• Pinky Alberto, on her own volition, withdrew during the 1977 Miss International pageant, making her the first Filipina to do so.

• A separate search for the Miss Young Philippines was held in 1981. The international pageant was held here and Joyce Ann Fellosas Burton won the pageant. She was technically dethroned because she did not meet the minimum age and citizenship requirements. She, however, was allowed to compete in the international pageant, finishing as one of the semi finalists and is still listed as the titleholder. She also became the first woman to win both the Miss Young and Bb. Pilipinas Universe (1985) titles.

• Josephine Relucio Bautista (Singh is her real surname), Bb. Pilipinas Maja 1981, was the first Filipina to win a Miss Friendship award. Aside from that, she also won two other awards in the pageant, Miss Popularity and Best national Costume; she was a semi finalist as well.

• Maria Isabel Pagunsan Lopez, Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 1982, is the first controversial Bb. winner. She enthralled the whole country with her liberal attitude and exotic charm. She became the queen of the Experimental Cinema of the Philippines.Rosita Cornell Capuyon (real surname is Nakamura), Bb. Pilipinas Universe 1983 was the first Filipina to compete in the Mrs. World pageant.

• The first Bb. Pilipinas Tourism titleholder, Marie Avon Boyle Garcia, was proclaimed in 1987.

• 1988 marked the first year when the winners were crowned wearing their gowns instead of the traditional swimsuits.

• Ma Rita Apostol became the first and only winner of the Miss Flower Queen title in 1989.

• Lilia Eloisa Marfori Andanar, Bb. Pilipinas International 1989, was the first Filipina to win the Miss Friendship award in the Miss International pageant.

• Anjanette Palencia Abayari became the first woman to be stripped of her title for failing to meet residency and/or citizenship requirement. Ma. Lourdes Talam Gonzalez, originally Bb. Pilipinas Maja, replaced her.

• Sharmaine "Ruffa" Rama Guttierez was the first Bb. Pilipinas Elite Model Look titleholder. She was handpicked to represent the country. A year later, she competed and won the Bb.Pilipinas World crown. She was the only girl in pageant history to ever compete and at the same time crown her successor in a pageant. She was also the first Binibini to shine in the Miss World Pageant.

• The 1994 pageant was held in October 1993 in anticipation of the Miss Universe pageant. Ruffa already did her final walk even before competing in the Miss World pageant. She was, however, given recognition in the 1995 edition of the pageant.

• Charlene Mae Bonnin Gonzalez was the first Filipina to win the National Costume award in the Miss Universe Pageant.

• Aileen Marfori Damiles, Bb. Pilipinas Universe 1996, was the first woman in the Miss Universe pageant to be voted as Miss Photogenic on the Internet. Bb.Pilipinas-World, Daisy Garcia Reyes, was the first Filipina winner of the Miss Personality award in the Miss World Pageant.

• Nina Ricci Caldo Alagao, Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2000 holds the most number of special awards won in the pageant at seven.

• Bb. Pilipinas Universe 2002, Karen Loren Medrano Agustin holds the record of being the only Filipina to compete in four international pageants (Miss Universe, Miss Globe, World Coffee Queen and The International Models and Talent Managers Association fashion competition by John Robert Powers).

Subject: Court Orders Arrest of John Singh, Miss Tourism World President

The Herald (Harare)
March 3, 2005
Posted to the web March 3, 2005

Harare

THE High Court yesterday ordered the arrest of John Singh, the president of the Miss Tourism World, after Michael Orji of Original Black Entertainment Television (OBETV) had filed an urgent application seeking an order to be paid US$200 000 by Singh.

OBETV did media consultancy for the Miss Tourism World pageant and was supposed to be paid 10 percent of the total licence fees.

The Zimbabwean Government paid Singh US$2 million as licence fees for holding the Miss Tourism World 2005 in the country.

Orji emphasised that the wrangle had nothing to do with the Miss Tourism World and the Zimbabwean Government but was between him and Singh.

He said efforts to promote Zimbabwean tourism were still on course.

According to the agreement between OBETV and Singh, a copy of which was shown to The Herald, the latter undertook to pay 10 percent of the total amount of fees charged and received from the host country.

Initially, High Court Judge Justice Antoinette Guvava, who presided over the case, had issued out a set down order to have Singh appear in court at 7 pm yesterday and make an undertaking that he would pay OBETV before he flew out of the country.

Singh was scheduled to leave Zimbabwe yesterday but was still in the country saying he had some meetings to attend.

But Orji's lawyer Aston Musunga of Musunga and Associates accompanied by High Court Deputy Sheriff, Kunze Everton, could not serve the order on Singh because he was nowhere to be found.

Singh could also not be located at his hotel room although he had not checked out formally.

The Deputy Sheriff served the papers on Singh's assistant Paul Gibson.

When reached for comment, Gibson, who was packing his bags, professed ignorance on Singh's whereabouts but said he had been with him five minutes earlier.

Speaking to The Herald on his mobile phone soon after the order had been granted, Singh said he was in a meeting and would be at his hotel in an hour's time.

Efforts to contact him later failed because his phone was not reachable although he was understood to have boarded a United Kingdom-bound British Airways plane at around 10pm last night.

The peagant was screened to millions of viewers across the world courtesy of Zimbabwe Television, M-Net and OBETV among others.
