Congratulations to the BPCI for coming up with excellent winners.
Now here are some of my comments:
The announcement of winners: It was obvious that BPCI is putting more weight on the Bb. Pilipinas World title, being announced the last. (perhaps it is because comparing Miss Universe and Miss World, we had been performing better in the latter)
The winners:
Gionna is an excellent choice for the Bb. Pilipinas Universe title. but MORE WORK is needed, counting her stage booboo not to mention almost choking in her interview (not that was so scary), ultimately it was evident that the stars are in her favor.
stage booboo: evening gown competition where she went straight back and not posed for the final close up (everyone reacted to that) ANG TARAY! dumerecho sa likod!
she can best described as RAW. Though a model, more work is needed in her catwalk, in the way she pose for final close up and controlling her mannerism.
I'm not bashing her. All these flaws can be controlled to make her a FRONTRUNNER in a month's time. My God! in a month's preparation, how great can she emerge. Let's just pray and hope for the best. (Miss Universe starts in the 1st Week of May, so she has the whole month of April for rigid training).
Carlene really does fit either World or Universe title. Though I know she really wanted to go to Thailand, perhaps the stars are telling us that China is the place for her. She broke the MISS PHILIPPINES jinx. Now that's an achievement in itself. Though it was evident right from the start that Madam Araneta grew fond of her. (notice how Madam Stella smiles a lot during the prepageant video where Carlene is being judged.) By the end of this year, she will go down in history as the first Filipina to ever compete more than once in the top 4 international pageants: Miss Earth and in November, Miss World. So who's next? Tamera?
And actually, Madam Stella, all throughout the pageant is noticeably smiling a lot. Perhaps it is because this is one of the best Bb. Pilipinas ever staged not to mention excellent winners. Even the Araneta Center itself is in a festive mood (with the opening of the posh Gateway Mall where the tenants reported that their branch at the said mall is their best selling branch in Metro Manila right now)
Precious broke the barrier of height. Winning the International title is an achievement in itself, being one of the shortest candidates, she still managed to wow the crowd and the judges.
The runners-up: Wendy and Melanie. Well done, though I am much impressed with Wendy bagging not only a runner-up title but also the Tourism title too. Now that's what you call hitting 2 birds with 1 stone. To represent the Tourism department is going to be the most exciting year ever!
The crowns are OK. But I noticed that the Bb. Pilipinas World crown is actually the former Bb. Pilipinas Universe crown (the one worn by Miriam Quiambao). Perhaps the crown holds significant value? Did my eyes deceived me or that really is Miriam Quiambao's crown?
The hosts are not that bad. Credit should really be given to the 3 guys for doing an excellent job. Paolo is so relaxing, Raymond is refreshing and Richard is... (well OK na) I just don't like his voice. It is as if Richard is shouting all the time.
The former queens are great too. Special mention to Katherine Manalo who still looked stunning. Mafae is visibly pregnant and Gilhrea is still your usual exotic beautiful Filipina. Karen is gorgeous and so is Nina and Zora.
Hope NO MORE BASHING this year. With not much time, let us help out GIONNA, the first to compete. Let's shower her with moral and spiritual support. If meron text voting sa Miss U, then let us show some text power. So much work is needed with Gionna!
The pageant on TV is still too long. Sana the year will come when 2 hours max lang talaga ang pageant on local TV not to mention, at a better time slot and not the late hours!
