I am flabbergasted by the result of Miss World 2005. I was rather optimistic that Ms. Marquez of the Philippines was a shoo-in. I hate to think that politics have something to do with this year's choice. Israel and Palestine are in the headlines these days, and if Palestine had a contestant, she would have been named Mrs. World or one of the runner-ups. Beauty pageants should remain apolitical and be its own excuse for being. Congratulations to Ms. Marquez nonetheless.
