Roy Eugene Davis, when he left home and went to Mt. Washington for the first time met PY there and the first thing he was asked by the guru was, "How old are you?"

Roy, as he's written in his books, replied that he was 18 years old. This satisfied Yoganandaji. He apparently, as can be seen from these two stories (Davis and Robert Adams), did not want any problems with parents of underage potential disciples.

I am aware that many young, underage women entered the ashram during Yoganandaji's life, including the current president, Daya Mata, her recently-departed sister, Ananda Mata, the current vice president, Mrinalini Mata, a current member of the Board of Directors, Uma Mata and others whom I've forgotten for now.

Why the seeming dichotomy? Why did Yoganandaji turn this young man Adams down, and ask R.E. Davis his age before he accepted him as a disciple/monk while accepting multiple underage women?

My guess in Adams case is that he was not a disciple of Yoganandaji's and the guru knew that another was his teacher, Ramana, so he sent him on his way. The same thing, or very similar, happened to Swami (Brother) Turiyanandaji in his native Swizterland when he approached the saint Swami Ramdas who was then touring the world and asked him to accept him as a disciple. Ramdas told him in reply that he wasn't Turiyananda's guru but rather his guru was then in America, P. Yoganandaji.

Finally I read that Yoga Journal article about Robert Adams a couple of years ago and remember his description about his time with Yoganandaji. I thought at the time that this fellow seemed to be "back-handing" Yogananda with his description of their conversation where he seemed to be up-vibing Yogananda with his question concerning why "all the affirmations etc."

Yoganandaji is a world teacher. As this individual relates his impressions of his guru, Robert Adams, I noticied that Adams was prominently described as hoping that he would have ten disciples.

Different avenues of God for different people in need of Light. No two saints are ever alike outwardly; thus they attact those disciples in tune with their own particular expression of the Infinite, Omnipresent, Light in human form.
