Subject: A few questions

Hello,

Making a web search I found this board, and there is very interesting and useful information in the archives. So thanks to the person who is providing this resource, and to all kriyabans who dedicate some of their valuable time trying to help other kriyabans.

I myself have a few questions which I hope you help me to clear if you would be so kind. By the way I formally received diksha in 1998 via SRF (I already had studied all the kriya techniques from the lessons).

Questions:

1. Yogananda explained that the best time to meditate is in the 4 changes of the day, but still kriyabans are instructed to practice their authorized number of kriyas only twice a day (plus 6 kriyas whenever there are proper conditions).
How many regular sessions per day did Lahiri used to recommend?

2. I have learned that Lahiri instructed some kriyabans to practice up to 1728 first kriyas. However, SRF has a standard limit of 108, even while there is reference that at least some of Yogananda's direct disciples practiced thousands of kriyas. I have asked an elder SRF monastic about this, and even while he said that there is no reason they would not authorize more than 108 kriyas in the appropriate circumstances, when asked further what that means, apparently they are not quite sure themselves.
Can anybody provide reliable information about this limit of 108?

3. I have learned that Lahiri asked his disciples to visit him at least every 6 months or so to check their practice, and presumably at these times Lahiri instructed kriyabans to raise their number of kriyas, gave other techniques if required, etc.
SRF too has something similar, but since there are many kriyaban members all over the world who cannot visit Mother Center twice a year, counseling is often based upon phone calls and correspondence too.
However if by whatever reason a kriyaban becomes isolated, he obviously cannot get authorization to raise his number of kriyas per session.
I have asked monastics a couple of times if there is something like a progression guideline, but even while the answers have not been quite clear to me, still implied that either there isn’t, or they cannot say.
Did Lahiri gave instructions on how to raise the number of kriyas in such a case of isolation?

4. I have learned that Lahiri required kriyabans to have attained khechari before giving the higher initiations, so obviously he gave this mudra a great importance. In the SRF lessons this practice is mentioned as important too, but no specific instructions are provided. Some monastics say it happens spontaneously when the devotee advances in his practice, but frankly if the person was not born with this ability and the tongue is not exercised, I don’t see how will he ever be able to accomplish such thing without discomfort.
Does anybody has reliable information regarding if Yogananda taught this practice while he was in India or in the early years in America?

Any other comment is welcome.

IDF, hux
