IMHO what triggered that letter was that the lady had been somehow forcing her belief into Prabhupada. Hare-Krishnas often look with contempt all paths which are not based in the worship of Krishna.

But sure Prabhupada did a very shallow judgement.

By the way, he seems to be one of the people who have interpreted "nasikagram" as staring at the tip of the nose.
