The practice of eyebrow gazing is also given the name of Shambavi Mudra. All of the chakras have a Ksetram or 'location' point at the front of the body. The location point of Ajna (physically corresponding to the Pineal)is called Brumadhya. The reason one doesn't focus in the middle of the head is because the actual location point of ajna is very difficult to establish.

According to Satyananda - "The practice of Shambavi Mudra facilites concentration. Over time, the pressure of concentration at this area increases and the sensations are carried back to the Pineal gland. This brings about an awakening in the pineal in the form of visions and internal experiences".

What is most important is that the eyes become fixed and do not relax and go slack. it is actually the fixing of the eyes on this point that activates the technique.

What we are looking for in yoga is 'whole brain function'. We cannot possibly perceive unity if we forever oscillate between the two hemispheres of the brain. What this technique has been scientifically shown to do is bring about a harmonisation of left/right hemispheres of the brain. Therefore we become the whole and don't need to look for it.

Too many on this board get hung up on the semantics of 'technique'. A practice does little to nothing unless you constantly and vigilantly remember yourself as GOD, as stillness, as peace when you are meditating.

Remember that all meditation is designed for is to remove ignorance - talk of activations etc are really a misnomer - there is nothing about who you really are that needs anything more than remembering.

Merry Christmas
