In Europe we say (half-admiring, half-disgusting) that "everything is possible" in the US. I think one of the problems is that Americans - I hope you are not offended - often seem to be not enough informed about problems and interconnectedness of problems. It is a lack of information and knowledge. The war against the Iraq showed that pretty well. Even the most positive observer cannot deny the problem that the whole war was based on a wrong assumption - that Mr. Hussein was in posession of weapons of mass destruction and a threat to the whole world, which simply was not true at all. Also, and even worse, they seem to be completely ignorant of the mindset of the Islamic world. If America wants to be save, they have to win the minds of the majority of Muslims, so that Islamic terrorism is already proscribed and followed in the homelands of the terrorists. Instead, they produced even more fanatic US haters. I could go on and on, it often simply boils down to a lack of information and understanding of the underlying things, and then the problems are solved "brute force."
We don't know whether George W. is really ignorant about Moon or whether he or his family including his daddy draw political or financial advantages from the connection with Moon. Anyway, what is shocking is that Bush's senior staff and the Christian public both seem to be completely ignorant and indifferent of this problem, too, even after Moon's "coronary" and the "tear down the cross" campaign.
