Muito bem observado, Roseane! Gosto muito, também, daquela parte do texto que complementa a sua citação: "while an educator may be able to give learners freedom, it is not possible to give them autonomy" (CANDY, 1989, p.101, §2).

Para evitar a eventual visão pessimista que você menciona, vale a pena lembrar (e, talvez, repassar aos(às) alunos(as)) a essência do que escreveu CANDY, 1989, p.100, § 1 ("Central to this view of people is the notion of choice. Certainly, people have both a genetic and a cultural inheritance, but as Mair points out: 'we are not bound by our conditioning or our family dynamics, or delineated completely by our heredity, unless we choose so to be... we can be different if we go out and do differently, we can become different by acting differently'").

Adiante, citando outro pesquisador, afirma CANDY: "As Kelly puts it, 'No one needs to paint himself into a corner; no one needs to be completely hemmed in by circumstances; no one needs to be a victim of his (or her) biography'" (CANDY, 1989, p.100, § 2).
