I disagree, Rom. While I acknowledge the validity of your argument (I was in college during the 70's "energy crisis", so I know whereof you speak), this isn't something that is going to happen at some vague point in the future. It is happening right now, and the implications are pretty dire. Our food prices were going through the roof even before the recent per-barrel price hikes, and now they are just insane. Not just "food products", but basic staple foods. As the price of oil rises, that will only get worse. And when people can't afford to drive to work anymore, things will really change. Unless the price of oil drops substantially, which I don't see happening, we are all in deep doo-doo.
