Totally know what you mean. It's just like "Woah...way to pound me with the book...."

The way I see it, Saira, is somewhat different, tho. I think Salinger (fucking genius that he was...I also looooooove the book...one of my faves)DID jam-pack a bunch of kick ass double/deeper meanings. I just think that he didn't want you to pick up on ALL of it, the way English teachers struggle to have you do. I truly believe that he filled every last word with something enormous, but felt that it was his reader's job to take from the book what they needed/wanted/simply HAD to have. Do you know what I mean??

Incidentally...I thought I'd share one of my favorite parts of the book. Something your English teacher probably didn't ask for insight on, but these two lines have stuck with me for years as something I want to carry with me always:
"If you had a million years to do it in, you couldn't rub out even half the 'Fuck You' signs in the world. It's impossible."

Dunno why...but I love that.
