The pontiac is neither a big or small block because pontiac only used one block design with the same bore spacing (4.62) for all of their blocks as well as the same deck height (10.225 ) now compare this to a big block chevy's bore spacing 4.84 or 5in after all that is a option with them, they can run bigger valves and ports there for more airflow into the motor which is what allows the power to be made, cubic inches has little to do with it as there are people making more power with a 515 running 5.60's in the 1/8 @ 3400 pounds in NSCA real street trim. (Jamie Stanton) the small blocks and with the exception of Bruce Maichle (who runs @ 3250) no one can touch him, the small blocks can weigh less than 3000 pounds in this class.... so who has the advantage under prescott's rules?

FWIW the best a stock casting d-port can flow is 280 cfm
Standard port edelbrock rpm head is 340 they flow 280 stock
Wide port edelbrock head is 360
The Wenzler series II can flow 375 with alot of work and money, the only set that flows this high has an excess of 10K in the heads which were done by BES

4 sets of superchiefs have flowed over the 400cfm mark, none of these sets are in this region of the u.s. The highest flowing set is constantly having to be reworked because the castings are that poor and move around that bad, how often do bbc's have to pull the heads and get the seats replaced? I bet you get more than 10 passes right?

J.C. does not have a motor like this, therefore the weight break is only fair, as there are small block heads that outflow what he has/had. Cubic inches doesn't matter as a
that's not what makes the horsepower and a aftermarket small block can get just as many cubes as a stock block pontiac can. Even with a standard deck height IAII block your maxed at 540" Anything bigger in cubes the heads are not available to support the bore specifically the stroke required to achieve those cubic inches.

If you have any other questions on this or a phone number so you too can run 5.60's @ 3400 email me, I'll get you in contact with the right people.
