((Indeed! Anyway, G’rein’s bored, and wants someone to talk to…and he also has a grudge against Halzay…))

I need a fire-lizard. G’rein decided. Maybe that way I can find out where people are. It was a common sight to se G’rein looking for someone – he had an awful memory for where people were, and where they said they would be. They usually had to find him. A flit would be an advantage in this situation, he reflected – even though he found the creatures to be rather annoying. Unless they were properly trained, of course. Maybe he’d enlist someone’s help to train his if he got one.

But it was while he was looking for X’thrall – where was he? – that the greenrider happened to spot a girl in the corridor, looking decidedly lost. She couldn’t be more than four or five turns, he mused. Probably just moved here – most infants became pretty Weyr-wise soon after they were brought. But what struck him most about her was her resemblance to…S’peer?

‘Gren? Does S’peer have any children?’

There was a pause, most likely while she consulted her sources. Yes. Scarth informs me that there is a daughter, Salzay, from his flight with Elizabeth.

Elizabeth, Elizabeth…G’rein racked his brain, trying to place the name. But wait – Salzay. Sapeer, and…Halzay? That was it…the one that S’peer lost control with. The greenrider sighed. If he helped this girl he’d have to take her back to her mother – not a person he wanted to make the acquaintance of.

“How is he?” W’ntyr joined his best friend by the bedside of their friend and mentor, in the Healer section of the Weyr.
G’rein sighed. “Not good. He’s lost so much blood…shells, W’ntyr. It’s awful.”
“Who found him?”
“Scarth yelled to every healer he could find. Four of them brought him here…” He shook his head. “They’re not sure if he’ll make it. He passed out half an hour after he actually did it, according to Scarth. Wouldn’t let him call for help. So he was bleeding all that time…”
“He’ll be okay.” The bronzerider said shakily. “It was probably just the drink…”
The greenrider shook his head. “No. That’s the worst thing – he gave up a month ago. And they couldn’t smell it on him. He wasn’t drunk. He was sober.”
“What? He was in his right mind…”
“Yep.” G’rein shook his head in anger. “I’d like to find that Halzay now! Bring her here and show her her handiwork…”
“It’s not her fault!”
“No? Couldn’t she just have accepted that he lost control? Blueriders are the roughest, you know. At least in my opinion. Bronzes are the gentlest, blues the roughest. And S’peer’s never been like that before or since…look how he reacted when M’red…” The young man broke off for a moment, shrugging off the hand W’ntyr put on his shoulder in sympathy. “But she hasn’t ever let him find her and apologise…and what’s resulted? An alcoholic, depressed…suicidal…”
“Hey…” W’ntyr put a comforting hand on his friend’s arm. “He’ll be fine. Don’t blame her. Please don’t. It was her first flight, remember…”
“It was mine!” G’rein shrugged off the hand. “It was mine when Scarth caught Grenith! And now they have to change the bandages every hour because blood still gets out despite the stitches…”
“You’re just looking for someone to blame. She was raped, remember? Something like that isn’t easy to forgive. She’s a factor in this, but the blame isn’t just on her. And who knows – maybe she has forgiven him, and she doesn’t feel like seeing him. Maybe she’s got a weyrmate and a family…we don’t know. Leave her to get on with her life, and help S’peer get back to his.”

But G’rein couldn’t just leave the girl to be lost, could he? So he approached Salzay, crouching down to be on her eye level. “Can I help you, little one?”

((Bit long...yeah...hehe...))
