Every year there are so many who whine and complain about the production values of the pageant, well I agree with some but others tend to over react! Now here's my take on this year's show:
THE POSITIVE:
* Great hosts, this year we see the reunion of Marc Nelson and Sarah Mehier since 2004. Both have improved especially the latter, she sounded livelier! And Borgy Manotoc was a good addition, damn he got a great voice! reminded me of that guy who emceed the Miss Universe 1988 pageant! Bring him back next year!
* Impressive Opening indeed! this part reminds me of the pre-taped sequence during the MU 2007 in Mexico but this one is way better, I give this part a perfect 10! I especially love the girls dancing in groups, Just simply great!! I love the transition from the girls wearing their national costume to their candids wearing the yellow swimsuits, gave us a good preview on how stunning the ladies were..
* Announcement of the Top 16 had slightly improved from years passed. I would have preferred it if the chosen girl's reaction is captured on cam the moment she was called. This part should have been coordinated with the cameramen before the announcement, so the camera guys get to familiarize where the girls stand. This is where the thrill and excitement peaks!
* The Semi-finalists: NO BIG DISAPPOINTMENTS, just minor qualms and quibbles though about a few of the girls. I didn't really expect SOUTH AFRICA, INDIA and PARAGUAY to make it here, but these girls were notables during the prelims so their placement were acceptable! FRANCE, SINGAPORE, and MARTINIQUE were my darkhorses. These 3 girls are just amazing reps. I had Valerie in my Post-press presentation list! Pasquale Nelide is just so stunning, I love her during the evening gown round! I secretly rooted for her to win the crown after the Interview round! GEORGIA got it twice in just 3 years, wow! that's pretty impressive. I also had Nona Diakonidze in my post press presentation list. She was smoking and had a great moves! POLAND was just strong, she was a crown contender after performing strongly at all 3 rounds, wow, never had her in my list! And the Polish streak continues! THAILAND sent their strongest and most stunning rep ever since Radchadawan Khampeng ('04), Imho she should have won an element to her credit. She had great stage chops and her swimsuit performance was memorable! If not because of the time limit during the final QnA her chances could have been better! You coudn't just miss KOREA, she's an asian barbie, great skin, well prepared and pretty face! wow her placement was definitely expected! COLOMBIA was just stunning, I didn't really like her gown though, she could have opted for a better gown but she definitely put a good fight! and I was soo happy when my soft spot candidate made it to the Top 16 NORTHERN IRELAND Kayleigh O'Reilly , Her presence in the Top 16 had covered for the absence of my favorites from ITALY, TURKS and CAICOS, USA and CUBA from the semi-finals.
* The TOP 4: Could this be the strongest Top 4 so far? here's my individual take on the elemental queens:
Miss Fire: SPAIN - I love her, she's my winner for both SS and EG rounds, solid stage presence. I share with her the dismay over the time limit during the QnA, Im sure she could have expounded her answer!
Miss Water: VENEZUELA - She's very deserving, I was rooting for her to win but turned to Martinique and Thailand after she was called. I think she did her best and she'd always be remembered as the barbie of the pageant!
Miss Air: PHILIPPINES - Sandra didn't let us down, she did an impressive performance at all 3 rounds! Weew!
Miss EARTH 2009: BRAZIL - I think she's a deserving surprise winner! She's oozing with sex appeal! She was a standout, gorgeous face and what a smoking body! Honestly, I didn't expect her to win but realizing that she gave a great answer made up for it! Wow, 2 winners for Brazil for this pageant! Kudos!
