• BEWARE OF GLITZ AND GLAMOUR -- Anonymous, 05:18:07 03/06/06 Mon [35]
  This pageant system had a pageant in WV today and it was the worst pageant we have ever attended. The prelim cost around $170.00 and they gave cheap awards, and the pageant was a mess. The judges were clueless and lots of beautiful girls got cheated. Several parents here in WV do not want the system to ever come back to WV. If it does I know several of us will not attend. This system is a scam. I heard they have had problems in KY, OH, and now WV. Directors you should be ashamed of yourself. You were begging for contestants and not even 13 kids and look at the mess. I would tell anyone to beware and not get caught in this scam as we did here in WV.

  • The pageant was a joke and it was almost two hours late. I can see why people are upset. I have never been so upset in my life when I left a pageant. My child got nothing but a cheap doll and paid that amount of money to enter. It was just a prelim also. Then I found out that the judges knew all the kids in the pageant.     • continued-The lady they had judging make clothes for the kid that won grand supreme. It was very unorganized and they combined smaller kids with children four years older. I can see why these Moms are upset about the pageant. I took my daughter to one they had last year in KY and I told them I would never be back. They seem to have problems at all their pageants. They have alot of COI and the pageant fees are higher then they should be for the awards given. I know they had a state pageant a few months back and several Moms were very upset.   • Pageant was well organized. we will go back.There was nothing wrong with the pageant today. These ladies have always had a great system and we have been doing their pageants for over 4 years. Never had a problem. I have even Judged for them several times. These Ladies are honest and are Wonderful to all the kids that are in the pageant and the ones there to watch. They allowed ample time for any one that had any questions or comments, for them to be addressed by the judges or directors. It is rediculous to bash a pageant and the directors just because you were not happy with the title your child walked away with today. People you take a risk everytime you enter a pageant. You are Paying for the JUDGES Opinion of your child. Everyone has different opinions!   • If you were so upset then why didn't you talk to the directors before you left? If I recall, the emcee did say that if you had any questions concerning the pageant to be sure to come and talk to them. And they were still there when I left which was plenty of time to speak with them. Also, there was about 20 kids there, not 13. The awards were not cheap.   WV girls were ripped off today!!!!
  Please never spend your money for this system!!
  My daughter and other girls were robbed from titles they should have won. Even the Wv girls that won supreme titles should have won The grand and Hi-pointe today. I guess you had to live in KY to win in their system.

  I have a dark haired child and a blonde. The dark haired child who is 9 started getting her eyebrows shaped when she was 6 because she only had ONE! She has very thick eyebrows, my dad has very thick eyebrows that are shaped very weird and she inherited that along with her dad's eyebrows, which grow pretty much down on her eyelid. She has been shaving the very dark thick hair on her legs since she was barely 8. She used nair a couple of times then went straight to the razor. There is nothing wrong with it. I wasn't allowed to shave my legs until I finally did it without asking. I was terribly embarrassed by my legs and didn't see any reason to put her through that after she started asking to shave her legs. My blonde one is 6 and will probably shave her ARMS before she shaves her legs. She doesn't care right now but the hair on her arms is almost an inch long. As soon as it bothers her I will help her get rid of it. I won't feel bad because some biddy on a pageant board believes they are far and above me and my decisions concerning my own children

• This may be a dumb question but here goes. I just got a new beauty dress for my daughter that has the halter style top w/ the ruffle around the halter.   On behalf of the Shpigler Family I am asking pageant friends, directors, photographers, tanners, etc to please send this information out to your mailing lists. The more people we reach the more we can help. If you cannot make a monetary donation at this time then please let your children's friends, family, pediatrician's, dentists, churches, daycare centers, coaches, etc know about this foundation.

  As you all know Sammy Shpigler, a beautiful 3 1/2 year old boy lost his life on January 1st after falling through the bars of a balcony while vacationing with his family in Hawaii. The bars of the balcony were not up to current code standards. This foundation's goal is to bring everyone involved with children "up to code" in regard to ALL child safety laws.

  • Angela tried to break the ties on first impression, then on modeling but they all had the same scores so the judges asked her to bring them back on stage. That is what she announced. All three girls were beautiful. We had a great time and Angela gave very nice awards. Everyone was very nice and friendly. Congratulations to Marie on your Elite grand supreme.   Do you agree or disagree that photogenic competition is a joke! Please sign this post if you agree. Somebody needs to begin a petition to eliminate photogenics for pageants until they go back to more natural photos!!! Problem is, most directors are tight with photographers, so it will never happen.

  I think at the end of pageants, parents should fill out Evaluation Surveys and rate parts of the pageant - things like timeliness of events, consistency of judging (esp. w/paperwork criteria), quality of hotel...etc, b/c anonymous posting of complaints looks more "sour grapes", than real things that directors really can and should change for next time!

• How important is the group line up in a pageant? Do the judges pick their winner right then? Also, is it better to be first out or last out? I personally don't like group line-ups because when your DD is smaller than everyone else in her group in the older groups it can hurt her and when you have a baby they get antsy. Most of the judges I have spoken with state that they judge individually, meaning that they don't pick a fav and then mark the rest of the girls down.   • In the pageant system (no longer exists) that was our favorite, the winner of the oldest age highest title was traditionally made into an ambassador at the conclusion of her reign . In that system unlike many of today's systems royalty loved returning and ambassadors faithfully returned year after year to be there as role models for the younger girls, to help out and to be featured as special royalty. The families of these ambassadors paid their own travel and hotel expenses plus their other expenses from that week.   Charles "Chuck" Ray Barron, 65, of Pensacola, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2006.
  
  Chuck was an avid golfer, enjoyed hunting and was an Alabama Football fan. He also was Co-founder in 1983 of America's Cover Miss and Cover Boy USA, a children's and teen's national beauty pageant. He attended Olive Baptist Church.
  
  He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Cliffie Barron, and sister Betty Lee.
  
  Survivors include his wife, Ruth; daughter, Ashley (Rod) Bonner; and grandchildren, Madyson and Cameron Bonner.
  
  Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2006 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1:30 p.m. Burial will follow in Pensacola Memorial Gardens.
  
  Pallbeaers will be Ray Ostreicher, Chad Kramer, Mike Drammond, Mike Bennett, Tommy Pugh and Kenneth Macks.
  
  Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

  Lauren Shpigler and her husband, daughters Hannah and Amanda and son Danny have lost their son and brother Sammy in a tragic accident in Hawaii. He was three years old. He fell from a balcony- 8 stories up. Please pray for the loss of this beautiful little boy.

  Then you would look at others differently
  Each time a National pageant comes up you have to bash it if your DD did not win the top title last year. Well live with the fact that your DD can lose at any given time. You bash the judges if they do not pick “names” that you think are unbeatable, no one is unbeatable. Well some judges don’t play the “name game” and your bashing and complaining do not sway some judges. I would rather have a judge that is open minded and really looks at the child and how they do on stage than one that is only interested in the name game.
  Be it PGP, Beary Special, AGG, Dream Dolls, or which ever you will not be happy with the out come if your DD does not get the TOP title. Most judges and I have judged are honest and will not be swayed by your BASHING so live with the out come and move on to the next pageant.
  Mother’s please don’t let these SOUR GRAPES make you lose out on a fun and rewarding pageant weekend by listening to these sore losers. GO and see for yourself if the pageant is good or not, most of the time you will find these boards are full of SOUR GRAPES only and the pageant in question is on the up and up.
