I have a palm tree theme. The walls are green. The bedspread has palm trees and and I have green, tan and coral colored pillows. The bathroom is the same decore, with different shades of green stripes on the walls.
Wonder what color Keith's bedroom is. I'm thinking blue.

The bedroom should be your "nest" - the place you go when you want to relax and calm down. It is recommended that you not have a television because it is associated with things that are not always calming, plus it can keep you up later than you need to be. It is also recommended that you not have pictures of loved ones in your bedroom either. Yes, I know, it's weird, but images of our loved ones are emotionally charged and if you are angry at one it will affect your sleep and the peace the room should bring.

Now, think of what is going to be going on in that room - sleeping, obviously, dressing and maybe some pampering things. If you're married, there will be "those" things involved. What colors and styles do you associate with those activities?

Don't decorate with a trend just because it's a trend. Decorate based on what you LOVE - even if it's NOT trendy. YOU are the one who will be spending the most time there and the room should make you smile. Every corner of the room should bring you peace when you look at it, so that means keeping a lid on clutter, too.

Personally, my walls are a pale lavender with an english-garden border (stone wall and gate with lots of flowers and vines) in soft colors - gray, green, blue, pink. The curtains are a dark sage. My bed is a four-poster pickled pine look with a touch of green and mauve on the head an footboard trims. The bedspread is a satin damask in light sage. The floors are hardwood, but I have a large (5x8) area rug in the main part of the room that is light beige with big flowers around the edges. My furniture - two dressers, that's all we have room for! - are very dark with chunky-looking carved drawers and trim. You would think they wouldn't go, but they do - they kind of anchor the room since everything else is so "light and airy". And they were inexpensive but very well-made so there was no sense in getting rid of them.

When we finally got the room painted and the border up, everyone who has seen the room says "oooh, wow, this is so pretty and peaceful!" Yup. It's almost B&B-ish. And it's not too "flowery" that my DH can't enjoy it either. You walk in and just go "ahhhhh!!!". THAT's what a bedroom should do for you, whatever style you choose.
