Subject: Random thoughts on the new 101

It's nice to see tht the overwhelming number of posters on this board are overjoyed. They fought hard to get their station back and have succeeded. Now two things have to happen - the boomers have to support the station and new younger listeners have to also come on board. Judging by the sentiment on this board, boomers seem willing to compromise and accept 70's and 80's music. The station is looking to Bill Lee and Joe Causi to attract these younger listeners. Without them, the station will not be able to bring in needed advertising dollars.
My personal reaction - it's a nice station, better than anything in the NYC market right now, but it will not be my primary listen. My favorite music is pre '64, which will not be highlighted here. I still have to go elsewhere for the steady diet of what I crave. I listened to the first three hours yesterday before I had to go to a meeting and to Joe Causi on the way home. I think Eddie Cochran was the only 50's song played. My only disappointment was that there was no Dion early on. Dion is a Bronx son and was the headliner at the station' s 15th anniversary cancert at Radio City in 1987. Something like "Runaround Sue" or "The Wanderer" is uptempo and should not antagonize younger listeners.
They used to call themselves "the station you can sing along to", but yesterday there were songs I never heard of, much less know the words. Not being a compromiser, I will stay with Sirius with an occaisonal visit to the new 101. To all my friends on this board who are enjoying the reincarnation of 101, continue your support and hope the new generation will find the station.
