Walt, I respectfully disagree. It doesn't matter if the over 45 crowd is buying the Manilow album of oldies, the latest 50 Cent album or John Phillips Sousa marches. If ANYTHING (outside of a current big hitmaker)can hit number one in its first week of release with no airplay , a few TV appearances and a lot of advertising, it proves the point over 45 listeners can be responsive to advertisers regardless if they are buying music or dog food. If the suits at CBS-Radio still think that the over 45 crowd don't respond to advertising and younger listeners were responding to the ads and buying the Manilow LP, then that proves oldies appeal to younger listeners and if that is true--they can't have it both ways.
