First of all CBS-FM was a shell of what it used to be the last several Years. The worst DJ move they made was to hire Mickey Dolenz. As far as what Joe McCoy did seven years ago was done because Jammin Oldies was taking away listeners from CBS-FM in the ratings. Joe saw they were playing a lot of late 60's and 70's music so he did the same thing. He took away the 50's music in doing this and it was wrong. You don't play around with your core audience. I also think this was not Joe's idea. Based on what happend the last several years leading up to June 3rd, I feel he must have been pushed to do this by the people upstairs at infinity who know nothing about programing oldies radio. I also loved WWKB. I listened to it even while we had CBS-FM because I liked their playlist. If CBS-FM were smart, they would have hired Jack Armstrong, one of the true legends to do the mornings instead of Mickey Dolenz. If you want to listen to a great station on the internet, listen to WLNG. You can also get WREF which you mentioned before on the internet 24/7. I know it is not listening to the radio, but it is better than nothing.
