I read the article you posted. They said music taste are changing. That is wrong! They made the change for the same reason CBS-FM dropped Oldies which is to get younger demo's what the sponsers want. I agree with Peter Boyle that it was a bad move to drop oldies as it was to drop oldies at CBS-FM. Radio stations today do not care about the listeners. They only care about the bottom line. If they feel they can cut cost and make more money with another format that attracts younger demo's they will drop oldies. Fairfield neede an oldies station more than they need the Coast. This kind of thinking is wrong but this is how it is done today.
