Chris
I'm really sorry to hear that you are concidering leaving us, I only hope that you change you're mind. I haven't been in the sport for long and have only met you twice, but you have already tought me a lot, put a grin on my face and been a huge help.
I understand your frustration with the sports development (or lack there of) and it's cost in time, finance and stress to you, and it is wrong that all this should rest on your shoulders. Was this not one of the reasons for the BGSA, so that it didn't all lye with you, but an organisation made up of many dedicated officials and members? Deligate Chris, let us help, send out the information we need to all the members, sponsorship packages, costs, equipment, etc, etc, etc. That we may also contact potential sponsors, share the effort, cost, stress, etc.
As for Avimore, it would be a great shame if it did not occur this year, but it would not be the end of the sport in this country. I know we have discussed it before, but may be the sport dosn't need a great riders race at the moment, but instead a great spectators race. Look at the Streets of San Franacisco, a strait course, 2 jumps and THOUSANDS of spectators. OK so it wouldn't be the same as Avimore and would possibly be harder to organise, but a city race would be far more attractive to potential sponsors, would bring attention to the sport and attract more members. All of which means more money for the BGSA, which means better races in the future.
OK so this may be a bit idealistic, but in my oppinion it's got to be worth a shot. Divide and deligate responsabilities and tasks amongst officials and members of the BGSA and put on a media/spectator/sponsor freindly event. So what if 2003 dosn't have the best races for riders, it's a shame, but if more attention, money and, most importantly, members can be brought in for the future then it's worth the sacrafice.
I hope I havn't put over steped myself again, but Chris, the future isn't as gloomy as you make out, it may not be great for the moment, but it isn't the end. I agree with Derek, we need a proper meeting and get some things sorted and organised.
Hope to see everyone soon
Joel
