Subject: Preservation Donation for Fort DeRussy

Gang, as you know the donation plan is three fold - money from registration as well as the proceeds for the Raffle will go to provide the Friends of Fort DeRussy some seed money to enable purchase of some private land containing earthworks that are part of the Fort. Additionally folks are encouraged to raise money as always from co-workers, friends and businesses and bring it to the event. Once you explain what you are up to, it should not be too tough to raise $1.00 per mile ($26!).

The raffle prizes are reserved for folks who will be at the event - you deserve it for making the effort to get there to join us. The raffle will be held immediately following the event and tickets will be sold before and after.

Here are the raffle items so far:

Wambaugh, White and Co:

1. Standard Grade Federal Fatigue Blouse (sack coat)
2. Cincinnati Depot Shelter Half – entirely hand sewn

Don Smith, TMD Co:

3. US Early War belt of wax flesh leather with early US Plate
4. Iron dyed waist belt with copper CS “egg” belt plate
5. British Cap Box

Fred Baker

6. Penitentiary Jacket

Cody Mobley

7. TBA (we are hoping Mansfield Trousers :-)

Chris Utley

8. Knit Tam (Cap)

Neil Rose

9. Winner’s choice of the following:
-roller buckle belt
-frame belt
-civilian trouser belt with original brass buckle

Randy Ubben

10. Handcrafted Pipe

Doug Cooper

11. Wambaugh, White and Company CS 4 button jacket (gift certificate)
12. Chris Daley Hardee’s or Gilham’s Manual (gift certificate)

If anyone has any items they want to throw in the raffle, they will be gratefully accepted and appreciated.

Also, as you might imagine, Fort DeRussy is ecstatic at finally being able to secure the only known CDV of the only officer killed on the Federal side at Fort DeRussy. He was Lt Jerome Bishop of Co D, 81st Illinois, killed in a tragic accident when a cannon burst as federal forces attempted to destroy the water batteries after the Fort's capture. Several of us chipped in and we were able to buy it from the owner, who drove a hard bargain. Check out the AC forum under Bank's Grand Retreat for a photo.

Katrina has effected everything in Louisiana, and funding for historical reconstruction and especially purchasing hallowed ground has been understandably set aside. We can help fill in.

Thanks comrades,

Doug
