Last year the talented black, miss miss. did not make top 5 and she was beautiful and extremely talented. This year, Miss SC was extremely beautiful and pretty good talent, but did not make top 5. I thought with Vanessa Williams as a judge, Miss SC would win or make top 3 for sure. I am black and i don't like it.

I'm white, but I LOVED sc too. The 2 friends I was watching with said they think her question probably hurt her because the judges were "liberal" and would be super in favor of gun control.

So, if a black contestant doesn't win, the pageant scoring was contaminated according to your comment. What about all the white girls that didn't make top 15? Should all white people make the comment that they are white and they don't like it? Cut out the race baiting and be proud for the winner whether black, white, asian, hispanic, etc.

If a "Sista" wants to be sure a black person wins, then enter black only pageants. Then your problem will be solved.

SC's talent is what screwed her up, not her OSQ.

So, because. Vanessa Williams is black, you think Miss South Carolina should have gone further? There were seven judges... I will agree that I thought she would rank higher, but her talent was a little "pitchy". I would call what you're saying reverse discrimination. None of us have any idea what went on in the interview room. What happened to Miss Iowa, a double prelim winner. Did Vanessa keep ker from moving on?

I am agreeing with the first post, I am black and saying that it is time for black contestants to be treated fairly.

So if a black girl doesn't win, they are treated fair. I guess the only way to have a fair contest would be to announce that a black girl will be crowned, regardless of scores and merit. So what about all the other non-black girls that don't win? How are they treated? Or does it matter to you?

I do think black contestants have to work much harder to even be considered, but I don't think race is why SC didn't win. It was based on total score, and she lost points in both talent and OSQ.

OMG, did you hear her sing. It was horrible. She was a pretty girl with a not so good swimsuit and one of the worst talents.

Composite prelim score was 25%. That appears to have played a big part tonight--for better or worse.

I'd have rather her win than Georgia. She completely flubbed the question; at least SC said SOMETHING... I am white.

Why do people have to keep telling their race. Race should have nothing to do with it. She was pretty in a swimsuit and that was it. Miss America, Miss Alabama, or any other state should never crown a girl based on the color of their skin. Hopefully that will never happen anywhere.

Because people think we prefer one skin color over another. I'm white, and I wanted SC or Meg to win. But especially Meg. People might think I prefer one over the other because of race, but that has nothing to do with it. Georgia's OSQ was the worst out of all of the girls. I don't think she should've won. And we're the same race.

With talent counting so much in the scoring, how did Colorado make the top 10? Monologue? Doe anyone consider what she did talent? Really, think about it.

Miss SC talent was maybe a 5 extremely average and we've seen that song tank twice at Miss Alabama (from both represented races). And her question was perfect because she could have talked about Charleston but she sat on the fence a give a patty pleasing answer unlike Meg who gave her honest opinion. So I guess a she would have picked a better song selection and been brave enough to state her "real" opinion. This wasn't a question of racial inequality, it was more about who has a better prep team.

Then we have a problem, because we should be colorblind and find a Miss America that will represent all of us.

So you're saying if Miss America isn't black we won't have equal representation? Only black people represent the country as a whole?

I am black, African American, a woman of color or however else you want to put it and I am sick and tired of the race BS being brought up every time the black girl doesn't win or fair as well as you think she should. South Carolina didn't win because she didn't make the score. Stop spending your time moaning and groaning about things not being fair and get off your butt and put in the work. If you want to win then learn to be a winner. Stop relying on having a token black judge(which even if they score you all 10's doesn't mean you have any chance of winning if the others don't agree), stop hanging on the fact that Alabama has only had one black title holder, and remove yourself from the civil rights movie known as your life that you keep trying to live in. South Carolina had a week talent and a week answer. If you want to be a winner, think like a winner, answer your question like a winner, walk and wear your swimsuit like a winner, where your gown like a winner and interview like a winner. Instead of hanging on your skin color, learn something from each contestant that places above you and figure out what they brought to the table that was better than you. If it's her stage presence then get better at it, if her talent was stronger work on yours, if she's the interview queen then work on yours. Don't be afraid of constructive criticism either, if you have someone that is trying to give some solid advice for God sakes shut up and take it!!!! People that know pageants or are judges or have competed usually know what there talking about so don't be afraid to listen. Get a coach. It takes money to get results and sometimes you might have to invest a little to gain a lot!!!

Amen! Sadly, I know of 2 instances where contestants were given top scores and others were lowballed due to the color of their skin..............I cannot begin to tell you what I think of a judge doing such a thing; they have no ethics and will be found out by everyone! Who can support a contestant who won in such a manner? People are not fooled!Sad, Sad!

Isn't it sad that members of the Black/African American race spend time keeping themselves in some sort of suffrage. Everytime their life doesn't end up as they had hoped, it is because they are black. How sad for people trapped in this self diluted state. I agree with the above poster, based on the scoring mechanism for Miss America, Miss SC was knock down GORGEOUS, but her talent was so very weak so she lost the majority of those points...up against Opera...there was just no chance. I am WHITE, but it thrills me when I score a pageant and the girl I thought should win based on my own scoring, does. SC was my 3rd Runner up. I actually had Miss Colorado, the nurse with the controversial monologe as the winner. I had Miss GA as First runner up and Meg as Second runner up. I was shocked that Miss Iowa, a double prelim winner did not make top 5... That is when Miss MS. made my 4th runner up...

So, black, smart, talented women have the same opportunity to win a Miss State or Miss America title but you got to earn the points!

Miss Alabama has Brianna Kinsey, M'ia Callens, Chassidy Sumler, etc. All are very talented and Brianna and M'ia have both scored in the Top 10 and above on more than one occasion. Chassidy has won talent in Miss Alabama pre-liminary. So what's your beef? Everyone saw Caitlyn Brunell being the winner but no one really predicted Meg would win. And, Meg has finished higher than any Miss Alabama in quite some time. Who can predict what the future holds? Black, white, asian, hispanic, etc. whoever wins the title, support and move on.

Here is my problem with this entire post. Color is not a scoring section in Miss Alabama or Miss America. First of all not all one race are the same. To say that one person SHOULD win becasue they are black, white or in between is ridiculous. Miss SC was beautiful and had a nice swimsuit, but the girl could not sing and bombed her question. If she had deserved the crown she would have gotten It. Second of all, racism does exist in pageantry. It shouldn't but it does. At the end of the day I have not seen a girl WIN a pageant becasue she is black but I have seen girls NOT win a pageant becasue of race. Lastly, I know there is a lot of discussion about how Alabama will never another black contestant and that's shame. As a fan, I want the best person for the job to win the crown whether they are black white or asian ect. So let's stop this want should black girls do debate and focus on supporting our state contestants.

Dos anyone think Miss Georgia won - as a backlash over the Solo Cup talent last year. And after several years of being overlook, most every state in the SEC was in the top 15. Is this a backlash? Ms. Cantrell had the best talent! Personally will hold my judgement (although it means nothing) until I see Interview Tape. Personally, I would overlook her in a crowd of people, but am sure she will do an adequate job!

That's ridiculous and untrue. She should not win just because she's black. If she were white, you wouldn't think that. She won because she didn't deserve to win- period. And by the way, she's a very harsh-looking and manly black girl. She looks like Michael Jackson before loss of skin pigmentation.

I think there is less prejudice than this thread represents. I am white, middle aged and this summer I wanted Briana! And the majority of my friends wanted her roo! Saw Meg slipping up toward the end. Then I totally had SC as my winner until she sang. She didn't have talent. And with no ranking it didn't surprise me when she didn't advance. I may be wrong but I honestly don't believe it's race.

I am white. I think that SC was very pretty, but I, too, did not see her winning.
I am also a Briana AND Mi'a fan. I think that both young women have a great chance of being Miss Alabama. They are very different, but they are both exceptional in many ways. (Wouldn't you white people be insulted if everyone thought that you were the same as any other white person? I would!) Each has a good chance because she exhibits many qualities that are required of Miss Alabama, NOT because she happens to be black. I am offended when people break it down to race. I don't see the contestants as black or white, but as outstanding young women. I think that most judges in the Miss America System feel the same way.

Do I think either one were won the crown because they are WHITE, NO WAY, Just like I don't believe that Mia or Briana have not been crowned Miss AL because they are African American. Let the points choose the winner and not your ignorant rants....
