Sharon, do you know for a fact that the high school children do not have to recite the pledge? I know the elementary grades do. I find it disturbing that this may be the case. I know the pledge indicates the word "god", so I suspect some religious groups may object. I do recall, Oh So Many Years Ago... that a young boy in my elementary grade school was exempt from saying the pledge due to his religion. The funny thing is, unless your religion does not believe in a "god" most others do. No one said it had to be the same god percieved in the same way! I also agree on your point that this society does not cherish or respect certain traditions. You can't imagine how many soccer practices, basketball, softball, girl scout outings, etc. are held on Sunday. I'm firm in my belief as a Christian, that Sunday should be indeed "a day of rest". Maybe not in those specific terms, but Sunday at my home is "family" time. Sunday school for the children and a service for the adults. OOPS, don't want to offend anyone, so I'll get off my soap box now!
