I have called the administration offices, and spoken to the principle twice. We have kids in our neighborhood who are TERRIFIED to get on the buses, forcing the parents to drive them.

It is illegal for any child to be on a local bus for more than one hour. I learned that from Early Intervention. I brought it up to the school principle and she agreed. However, it went on for weeks.

I watched one bus driver, lost on her route, just drop off our kids on D street, because she didn't want to go down the hill. Now, D street is only 2 streets away, but I have 2 that are only 6 and I don't even allow them off my own street, let alone walking down to our street. Nuts and crazies out now adays, the last thing a child should be doing is walking blocks from their designated bus stop.

Another time, our school bus never showed up to pick our kids up at the school. One parent rode to get the kids from the school, and passed TWO vacant buses, one sitting in Eddies Ice Cream parking lot, another in Lo Kai. Now, the reason that was given was that our bus had gone on a field trip and was late getting back. What very few know is, they are automatically suppose to dispatch the first available VACANT bus to the school if this happens. Obviously, the ones sitting in parking lots, empty (one eating ice cream) did not feel they were obligated to do so, and they kept our kids in the gymnasium for almost one hour AFTER school had ended!

A parent that noticed the two buses vacant called the bus company. The owner hung up on her! She reported this, also to the administration office.

Before Dennis pipes in, I walked 2 miles in 5 feet of snow, uphill both ways when I was a child too. But, things were different back then. You no longer know who bought the house near you. We have child molesters and pornographers right here in Dracut, well known and on the listing. Kids now adays are snatched in a matter of seconds and it bothers me that our kids are not even safe on our bus system. (I am just teasing you, Dennis..I read your SCHOOL LUNCH comment, and figured the walking through snow story came next.)

What I am told is, we have to "live with this" this year, because there is a signed contract, but next year is a different story.

I have one that gets on the bus with mild CP. I want him going to school with his older sister and brother, and not to "feel" disabled, so I don't put him on the special needs bus. He is fine, but slow at getting on. The bus driver has yelled at him and told him to MOVE IT FASTER or she wouldn't wait! Now, he has CP, how much faster can he move? That is discrimination!

I am on a rant here, but it seems to me that contracts that are written, and bus companies that are paid with our tax dollars can be disciplined for their actions. It is terrible that we, as parents have to worry about things like buses, when there is so much else to worry about these days.

Okay, Dennis..your turn! LOL
