I’ve done some additional research & homework. My fear is that some fawning individuals will believe that Colleen Garry should be seen as a courageous crusader against the “disease” of substance abuse. Now, accepting the misguided premise for the moment that alcoholism is truly a disease, one can infer that a symptom of said disease would be a negative impact on job performance.

If that is true, then what of the “Animal House/ Phantom Voting scandal at the State House last year. All of those diseased colleagues of Ms Garry actually drinking while conducting budget hearings. Too bad Colleen Garry wasn’t in a position to have called attention to the apparent epidemic proportions the disease had infected her fellow legislators.

Oh, wait a minute. She was no less the Chairman of the House Ethics Committee, the exact body that would have oversight over such goings on. And... She chose not to open an investigation? It would seem an ideal opportunity to illustrate the all encompassing and insidious nature of the disease of alcoholism. But, she looked the other way.

One can conclude one of two things from this. Either Colleen’s level of concern for her colleagues does not extend to helping treat them for their disease, or, her overriding concern at the time was political preservation and that her current tearful appeals are a result of the same.
