I fully agree with you Ann Marie!!I just recently enrolled
my son in kindergarten and could not relate what-so-ever to
the stressed out parents of 5 year old children. Maybe I'm
simplistic but I believe childhood should be childhood and
with the "super child" syndrome that seems to be going
around I can't help but feel as sense of loss for these
kids.Of course our children are and will be more advanced
than you or I we live in a technological era but
are we robbing them of the basic joys in life??Reading a
book together, making tree houses or forts out of boxes
goofy things like water balloon fights etc.I,like yourself
want the best possible education for my child but at such
a young and developmental age children need one thing most
and that is you!!My son like his father is hyperactive or
some people have catergorized him as A.D.D.I am strongly
against medicating children unless they represent some kind
of harm to themselves or others and agree that we need to
address the educational needs of each child individually
but lets not pre-judge their capabilites at such a young
age. After all growing up in today's society is tough and
it will be a constant battle to help them maintain their
self-esteem.

Lastly,in many countries such as Japan, children are placed
under a tremendous amount of pressure regarding scholastic
statuses.Low tests scores translate into family shame and
rejection from society.Let's hope that we in the future
never conform to a similar mentality.
