I hate to sound like a pessimist here, but maybe we should take this current gas hike as a sign. I mean, if we really want to reduce the influence of oil companies, lets do what we can to drive them into a smaller market. I mean, I know it is a tough issue because people like to drive, and i am guilty of that. I just think we should take this oppurtunity to work out ways to reduce our need for gas. These companies do have us where they want us, and it is getting bad, environmentally , economically, politically. I don't know, hate to not offer any answers, just that this is what goes through my head when I hear about gas prices. Oh, and by the way, I saw an economist on one of the news magazines just before the hikes started, he said that when the oil companies see that the public is getting ready to pay high prices, this gives them incentives to reach those high pirces. So there might besome validity to your friends claim.
