Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, nor our darkness that most frightens us.

We ask ourselves,
"Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?"
Actually, who are you not to be?

Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people will not feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory that is within us.
It is not in just some of us - it is in everyone.

As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give people
permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence
automatically liberates others.

- Nelson Mandela

Okay, I want to tell people about my forum:

I don't care who you are, but I will not tolerate another ruckus in here about the forum itself. I went through a personal thing here recently, and that was for my own reasons. I wanted a fresh start. I don't care if it is old troublemakers in here, as long as they are making good debate happen, that is all that matters. The minute we start getting too much talk in here about who hurt who's feelings, I suggest we change the topic.

Here's some advice: if someone is attacking you, or debating too emotionally for you, abandon the thread. If they follow you, I will try to do what I can to keep them away from the forum if they are being too disruptive. To all my friends, I appreciate your help in trying to snoop out potential troublemakers, but don't get too jumpy when you think that one of the people that came in here weeks ago and attacked me might be back under a different name. I will ignore them and delete posts if needed.

But so far, I see all the current discussion as viable. The topics are good. In the end, I don't care if someone who meant me ill a few weeks ago is back and writing in. As long as it's on topic, or even about the site as in a critique, that is fine. But if things get more personal than someone calling someone mediocre or an idiot, then that's when things have to stop, and I will delete messages and block people and whatever. But just try to bear the people that call you names or get angry or upset. They are strangers (most likely) and do not know you. But if there is a case, such as what happened to me, in which you are being attacked by someone over and over in a clearly malicious way, and you suspect the person doing it might even KNOW you, then that is different. That is just low, a cowardly thing.

Let me know.

Just remember that I will not always be able to act as moderator.

Though entertaining at first, I feel that the attitude of certain members of this forum is what draws the hostility out of people. It just isn't worth it. Anthony, if anything is to be outlawed, can it be the personal attacks? Also, can you force a reader to look over a post twice, reading each line, before submitting a response? I'm sure you can HTML something up, right?

Yeah Duke!

Hey, I got a paradigm shift for ya, pertaining to b-ball

anyone notice how today's uniforms make players look like gangsta slobs?

look at the old footage, and you see those little jogger-like shorts and well tucked in shirts

even the early-mid 90's uniforms, while they had longer shorts, they were not that loose

call me a loony honkey if i don't get it, but does any other sports purist out there see this?

Here's a good stat: I read yesterday that 20% of all high school males in the US bring a firearm to school at least once in their 4 years there. Think about that for a minute. That's 1 in 5. I went to a HS with about 2000 students. Let's say for arguement's sake that 1/2 of them are men. That's 1000 guys. And 200 of them are going to bring in a gun? That's 50 a year? With 180-something days in the school year, that's one gun almost every three or four days. Think back to your homeroom class and realize that if you were still in HS today, you could have a handful of kids in there carrying guns. So what the hell is going on in your country?

Well, we had a pretty heated discussion going on in here yesterday. I started the whole thing by stating my outrage toward the activities of a militant religious group called the Army of God. The AOG's members believe that they, as (self-appointed) Soldiers of God, have been chosen to stop abortions via direct physical violence: the killing of abortion-performing doctors. The conversation that started jumped to abortion in general, then back again.

As far as that topic is concerned, everyone is of course free to keep discussing that. I wanted to bring up another topic, however, just to keep things fresh. In the Rant section of the site, I put up an essay that discusses the proposed Bush tax cut, among other things. If you want to read that and come back and start a conversation, so be it. I welcome longer, more formal responses in essay form as well, and any such pieces will be posted along with the original essay. This same policy goes for any Past Rants in the rant section as well.

Talk to you all later,

ACS

Well, it's Thursday, April 5th, 2001, and there is not much going on in the Forum today. I just wanted to drop a line and say hello to one and all. Just doing a Webmaster's dudty, as I see it. Just took some time to look over some of the threads again, and I like what I see. Lots of good things going on in here. And then I remember the words of one contributor saying that we should not just be sitting in here arguing tidbits pedantically, that we should be out DOING instead of TYPING and whatnot. I agree and disagree. The typers should get out and try to DO instead of SAY, and try to live what they preach. But then there is the chance that what we type here may move others to act. Wishful thinking? Idealism? Maybe. Just thought I'd share.

"Both parties should be equally responsible, but if you know anything about biology, you would know that is impossible."

Impossible? Nothing is impossible.
And Just because the woman is biologically connected to the physical being of that baby for 9 months does not mean that the child is ONLY a part of "her". I think anyone with a basic knowledge of biology would know that. Did you?

All:

I need some feedback on the site mechanics for a second.

Is the Forum slow for all of you? If so, I can step up the archival of older messages, changing the settings so that they are removed from the main page faster. Would you recommend that?

Thanks.

What's going to happen after we BAN abortion?

Is the list going to accumulate?

Are we going to ban sex too? Sex before a certain age bracket, social standing and proof of morality? Is that going to be the new law? Are we going to tell people what religion they must teach their children? Are we going to ban books that encourage free-thinking and responsible decision making all in the name of: Let someone else make your choices for you and dictate your life.

Hey, the legal drinking age is 21 but that never stopped anyone from drinking and acting generaly irresponsible in all manner of ways. What stops them is the fact that they are NOT irresponsible and capable of making sound decisions.

Speaking of religion, I saw a show last night on a militant anti-abortion group called the Army of God. They are a group responsible for the deaths of doctors that perform abortions. Don't they really know their precious scripture? I was raised on a lot of hard-core Baptist dogma (which I have thankfully been able to shake off, unlike some of the brainwashed bastards I saw last night on the idiot box) and if it was up to my old pastors, I would be out there killing in the name of God. But I realized that the Bible itself says that only God is supposed to judge us. Human beings are not supposed to do this, that is why the Bible says things like "Judge not lest ye be judged" and "let he who has no sin cast the first stone." Fanatics like the Army of God have been killing in the name of God forever. They are ignoring their own sin in killing other human beings and claiming to know the will of God. This is another reason why so many people are turing their backs on organized religion, specifically Christianity. I for one don't agree with things like partial birth abortion, but abortion concerning a pinhead-sized fetus is another thing. But these fundamentalists are truly deluded, in my opinion, and are just as if not more guilty of murder than the abortionists they hate so much.

Okay, attention all! In order to keep the forum from being overwhelmed, I have stepped up the forum's archive controls. I didn't really expect ALL of the messages to be dumped into an archive all of a sudden, but then again there is a certain vagueness to the Voy message manager controls. You should be able to respond to archived threads, and they should appear here in the main forum. I don't think this will confuse anyone who comes here regularly, but then again, you never know. Things were just getting so damned slow in here! Sorry for the confusion or inconvenience. I have a T1 line at work, and MY access was slower than Congress! Keep on talking!
