I said it before and I'll say it again: I am hoping to establish some clean debate in here. I can't HTML people into behaving like adults, but I can ask nicely. Listen, according to the tried and true rules of debate, ad hominem, attacking your opponent on a personal level, such as in name calling, is frowned upon. I like these rules for arguement. They keep things on the mental plane, so to speak. So I agree with you that the name calling should stop. But when emotions run high, things get ugly. We should try to keep emotions in check to a point, so that they do not make us argue poorly. They should help us maintain a vigor for the discussion, and not ruin it. Listen to what your opponent, or rather fellow debator, has to say, and don't just think about what you want to say to their opening sentence. Try to be rational with a bit of emotion thrown in, that's my opinion. So come on, play nice kids.

Hey Anthony. I was looking over your guestbook, and you had some decent discussion with people named Rodney Reel, Rob Base, and Tom, among others. What happened? Did they get pissed off and leave, like I am about to?

Floppy,

Don't be a jerk and start picking fights in here by threatening to leave. I like the arguments your posting, but don't be juvenile.

Just stating that sometimes it is not worth it to stick around and try to have intelligent conversations. Anthony is the moderator, and I feel that he should examine what goes on a little closer.

There were some decent people posting things in his forum (Rodney Reel, Rob Base, Tom), and they disappeared due (probably) to unnecessary opposition from Anthony's friends on this forum.

They were decent thinkers, and they sparked some nice conversations over in the guestbook, and now they are not coming back. There must be a reason for that, and it seems that, most likely, the reason is the one that I am experiencing now.

As far as the Rob Base and Rodney and Tom and whoever situation is concerned, some of the people under these and other names were people that, in the end, really didn't want to have conversations. They wanted to disrupt. Not all of them, but some. Now, assuming that you are not one of them come back to haunt me, Floppy, I will say that I expect them to come back. However they want to access this site and whatever they want to write, it is up to them. Now that I know "the truth" about what was going on, I am much calmer with the thought that they will return. If you are one of them and are now trying to be civil, I appreciate it. Anyway, I hope you keep contributing, if you want to. Don't let the bad rhetorical skills of others slow you down or discourage you.

All I can add is that, yes, while I am accessing the site, I DO act as something of a moderator. Know that I don't want people to get into emotional spats here, but it has happened, me included. My problem was that I felt like I was being unjustly labeled, and that people were using my site to settle bad feelings and whatnot. But I don't want to get into that.

The point is, I don't like it when people start attacking each other, but there's not much I can do. All I can ask is that people try to stay calm in the face of these kind of volatile situations. When the situation entails actual strangers and they don't know you from Adam, then there is no reason to get all pissed.
