And about the election process, well, one can only say that it is an old system that while misunderstood by many Americans, has reasons for existing. I mean it is the great equilizer, keeps everything on a level field. I mean, we often forget that this is a republic and not a democracy. We elect leaders to make descisions, and not very well I might add, and then get mad when they do stuff that we do not understand. I think it is because we do not totally understand the system, or at least the issues with which the system must deal. I just find it difficult to question and deem flawed a system that kept Gore out of office. I mean we are slowly finding out how bad Clinton was for this country, and yet people still yearn for Gore. Oh, just as a disclaimer, I am not suggesting that KILL is pushing for Gore, just stating a fact I have seen in my own life.

Hey, not to digress here but thanks for remembering that "ben" is a part of my name, everyone else around this forum seems to think that it's okay to shorten my name...

But back to the topic. We seem to be on the same page here. Why do kids want to shoot their classmates? WHAT are they missing as far as a spiritual education goes? Who made them think that there is no other way to handle their problems? Let's concentrate on LISTENING to kids more often, respecting them and their opinions. Showing them what they can do to help others and themselves. I mean, Hey, I know when I feel helpless and frustrated that is when I get irrational and mean. So, it's a logical conclusion that this could be a big source of the problem.

Any ideas for implementing some kind of plan to acknowledge children and their accomplishments?

I agree that we have to somewhat...empower kids. they need to feel useful and have a valid existance. It is when they loose thios that they react in "other" ways. But I also think that is does not have to be as advanced as recognizing their accomplishments, not that this should be avoided. But I mean, if a kid just feels that they have someone that seems to give a shit about them, drastic changes in that kids mentality can be made. I have read up on most of the big stories involving school shootings. And to me it seemed that all the kids had at least one thing in common other than being picked on. They all at one point were searching for a figure to show affection and caring. They all wanted parents who gave a lick about them. All we have to do is pay attention and show caring. Now this will not solve all the problems, but it has to be a good start.
