they aare wired right into the house. My guess is one went off for some reason and thats et them all off. The one in the basement is battery powered and it didn't go off.
strange and rather frieghtening way to wake up though.

My goal for tonight is to be asleep before midnight. I made it last year I think.

Do you guys get the show Mantracker in the States?

It's a brilliant show really. Its a Canadian show but a few times they've filmed it in California. They have this professional tracker. He goes into the woods looking for lost hikers or helps police with escaped felons etc.
Two people are 2 kilometers from the man tracker. They have a compas and a map and roughly a 30 minute head start. They have to go 40 kilometers in 36 hours.
Mantracker has a local guide, but he has no idea where the starting point is, he has no compas and no map and he doesn't know where the finish line is. So at the appointed time, he and his guide are sitting on their horses (always on horseback), and they are searching for a flare. A flare goes up and that tells trackers and prey the game is on. First thing mantracker has to do is figure out where the flare was fired from. Once he finds that he starts looking for signs. And he is good... and he shows what he sees. Tonight he said, while on horseback, "Oh, lookie here..." he gets off the horse and squats down and points to a leaf on the ground. "You see that? A speck of dirt on top of the leaf. Now how do you suppose that got there?" A few feet further he sees a partial footprint.
Anyway, the prey almost always screw up somehow. They have 1 compas and one map so if they get seperated, one of them is screwed. Every night I am saying the same frekain thing... and by the way, my cousin and I have applied to be on it... I say the prey need to treat it like a military operation. Have 2 way radios so they don't need to talk out loud, wear camo. Take enough water... they are always drinking dirty water because they run out... and take food you can eat cold... one night the prey stopped on one side of a lake and made a campfire. Mantraker was on the other side and saw the fire. He was waiting for them when they woke up.
So I have these theories about how to win... mom keeps saying, "well you'd think someone would have already done it if that was the right thing to do."
well last night two guys from the Barrie, Ontario Police Tactical Team were the prey. First thing you see them in canadian Army digital camoflage. They they put camo paint on their faces. I'm laughing my ass off. They they test their radios. Everyhting exactly the way I said. Then the flare goes up and without even talking, they take off in 2 different directions. Mom goes, "Holy shit." Yeah.
Mantracker finds the flare spot and the tracks going in different directions and he kneels down and says, "What the fu*&^ are these guys doing?"
They met up with each other hundreds of yards away.
At one point they ran into some bushes and mantracker saw them go in. he stayed on one side and sent his guide around to the other side. He said, "Ok, we know these little bastards are in there so we just wait them out." and he waited and he waited and he waited. The prey have small video cameras. Mantracker was about 10 feet from one of the cops. he's just laying there. Finally mantracker says, "They must have snuck out. We'll go back up the hill and see if they went around that way." Once they were gone, the cops got up and stuck with their plan... they got to the finish and mantracker was more than 5 kilometers behind them. I've never seen anyone finish that far ahead.
I said, my entire philosophy was just vindicated. Mom said, "Just because they won, doesn't mean you would." No, but my methods are right. That means I could win.
Mantracker said it was the toughest he's ever done because he knew they were cops. So he had to think like a cop who was thinking like a criminal and he couldn't do it.

That is without question the best show on television. If you get a chance to watch it, or reruns of it on-line, watch. You will get hooked. Tonight it was 2 sissies from Nova Scotia and the chase took place in the mountains in Quebec. They got caught 5.3km from the finish.
