I think Frank & Jeremy don't have a father/son relationship, they'd don't seem to know anything about each other. I also think Jeremy was feeling a bit guilty, & realized that with Dad home, he was going to have to tell him about the abuse. Not something he was necessarily ready or really wanting to do. Even when Denise said he should go to WestPoint for the education, I think he thought that she was trying to get him to go just to placate his father. Where she may have been sincere, he may have thought she just didn't want the conflict with Frank so tried an argument to get Jeremy to go through the back door.
