  • If you put it inside we can each decide for ourselves. As you said, it's not really a spoiler, but I think Lifetime (after being on the Mac board I typed Lifeline and had to erase LOL), ..   Are you all having trouble with the amount of space you have to reply or make a post? I noticed several replies have gone inside and that's fine but is it so short a space that it's annoying or is it ok? I think I can fix the space if it is a problem. What do you all think?

  Do you think Frank is chauvinistic? Do you think he would have tried to raise a girl the same way as he tried with Jeremy? (I say tried because he didn't raise him, Denise did.) Do you think he had anything to do with them only having one child? I wonder about Frank.
  
  He's very sweet, loving, and open with Denise as long as she does his bidding but once she goes against him he orders her about and says things to her ending with "do you understand me!?!" Like she's his subordinate.

  • I do think Frank is chauvinistic....I think Frank is "old school" where he's the man & because he is, everyone else is beneath him & his is the only opinion that matters. That doesn't mean he doesn't love Denise, but I don't think he respects Denise or thinks of her as an equal partner. Things are going to get interesting as Denise starts becoming more vocal with Frank, something he's not used too. I believe a daughter would be raised as a 2nd class citizen by Frank, & there would be different rules for the son & the daughter.   • Pam's state to Roxy that it is "Army, Unit, Family" in that order comes to mind. Frank is married to his career first & foremost, everything in his life, both private & professional, is for the Army. Denise has, up to now, taken a back seat to his career, and that tends to make him chauvinistic.               • Yeah.........but, they are usually dressed in their uniform when they are working. The tags would be against their chest, then they would have on a t-shirt, then their uniform shirt.     • I think there are loads more people out there that consciously or subconsciously *not* put their family first but still have them. Loads of husbands and/or wives invest heavily (time and energy-wise) into their careers and their work. Granted, they are not physically away as long as would be in the military, but still they'd be seeing very little of their family and not really be involved in the upbringing of their children either. Not that it's always deliberately done, as the workplace is a gready place... Uhm, I had a point... I'm not sure I actually made it though. Just wanted to add this perspective to the whole 'put family first' ideal. If that were a requirement, I believe there'd be very few families left, unfortunately. It is very difficult nowadays to put one’s family first always (even if I’m not saying one shouldn’t, it would be nice indeed if possible). Nevertheless, people could try to balance work and family, as one can’t take care of both at the same time with the same dedication. Thus situations like Sherwoods’ could be avoided.   • I think Frank is chauvinistic and too inflexible to realise it and try to change. He seem to believe he is the only one to be right in his home, and he tolerates his wife&son as long as they do what they are supposed to, ie what he tells them to, without showing them any respect at all as individuals. I should rewatch it, but the 1st ep did leave me with a most unpleasant feeling concerning Frank which was confirmed later on. That’s why I can’t talk about love, as to me what he feels for Denise doesn’t match the definition I give to the feeling, she’s more like a pet, whereas his son counts for nothing if not the surrogate man supposed to look after HIS wife.     • He wouldn’t be a good father for a daughter, as he isn’t one for his son (sorry again, but the way he kicked Jeremy out of the house without trying to understand what had really happened, without knowing where his son could go and without even caring is inconceivable to me in spite of the gravity of the offense).   • It will not be Denise...I can't say exactly how I know, but I was told on VERY good authority that its not Denise.....I think that term means Denise is going to start standing up for herself, I mean looking at her now she's kind of a wallflower, maybe she'll start taking the initiative with Frank & become more expressive with him in their intimate moments if that makes sense.   • I thought it would be Denise, but someone on the spoiler board also claims to have inside knowledge about it not being her. Laughing at Jubellant's remarks about pearls - am I the only one that likes her outfits? I'm a designer by training and quite like the fabric prints and the whole retro-ness of the swirly skirts and twinsets, the reunion skirt was beautifully cut.     • LOL! I love her outfits (pearls included!!!) It is so nice to see CB out of marine JAG wear. They have had her in many different colors and styles and she looks GREAT in all of them. One outfit I liked was the simple black one with the white outline she wore as she is heading off to Belgrad's funeral. For a self-proclaimed tomboy she carries herself pretty gracefully. Think about it, when he talked to Jeremy, he was in uniform, headed somewhere. He's at home in civies as he usually is when he's home with his family. And he's in his uniform talking to Jeremy because he's going into work.       • Actually, I've been thinking about all the main characters & who could have an affair. Michael comes to mind, b/c I think his life is going to be in turmoil over the Jeremy/Amanda relationship. It, and/or CJ's secret, could push him to that end. I rewatched it today with that in the back of my mind & thought Trevor could be a candidate too. He's having to stay on base & Roxy will be working, leaving him home alone. Anyway, I have tried to take each character, & analyze if they could/would have an affair.   • It's not Denise because someone on another board said CB told them that it wasn't her character. The tv guide article said one of the main characters was going to have an affair because they are lonely. I think it's Roland because Joan was gone for 2 years, back a short while and now gone again for 30 days. I don't think it's Pamela because she and Chase were definitely on track before he left. "There are Internet affairs, emotional affairs and physical affairs." • Well I'm signing in on the fly as I head out the door for work to say "Another amazing episode". I do have to say that I'm not real pleased with Frank at this moment. He has every right to be angry, but he isn't handling the situation well at all. And let's just say we now know where Jeremy gets his temper from.   • I agree with the assessment on Frank....while there is no question that he loves his wife, he is also the one that controls the family. He makes the decisions, & up until now my bet is Denise offered very little opinion on things as it was Frank's way or the highway. Yes he's upset, but he shouldn't turn on Denise because of it. I hope Denise continues to grow, & will also start voicing things to Frank, & that Frank will adjust. I loved it when all 4 of them left Roland messages, I'm glad he's part of their group. I don't really care about Roxy's mother, that part of this ep was not interesting at all. I wonder if Jeremy's wanting to see Claudia Joy's daughter is going to create a rift between her & Denise?   • Yeah it seems that Jeremy's thoughts of last week said it all that he loved his mom too much not to come back, and he didn't say anything about his dad loving him. Obviously there has been a problem there for a while. I think that Jeremy for some reason respects and feels more comfortable with Michael Holden than he does his father.     • I don't get the impression he respects Michael Holden. I think he was just smoothing the way to date his daughter. Instead of earning Michael's trust as asked he decides to 'talk' to his daughter. This young man has serious issues that he needs help with. Unfortunately everyone is too busy protecting their own interests to realize the kid is crying for help! The kid is out of control but everyone puts him on hold. Michael says he has to tell his father first (who knew when he would be back). The kid doesn't seem to have any friends. Amanda has been away at school and she is the only one he can talk to?!!       • I disagree, I think he respects Michael Holden as well. He came to Michael to confess not going to West Point and hitting his mom again before he even showed interest in Amanda. She had been away and he hadn't even seen her until he went over to see her dad. While I totally agree Jeremy has serious issues, he has no one he can talk to and he and Amanda have gotten closer and he feels he can talk to her. He says to Michael that Amanda is the only one he can talk to. I also don't see a drinking issue. Way back at the beginning episode he was shown with a beer in a brown bag. He's a teenager, they do that sometimes. He hasn't been seen even remotely showing those tendencies or drinking either, so I don't think he has a drinking problem.   • Would like to add I laughed so hard at the pool scene when the two boys wouldn't stop fighting during retreat. Leblanc would get so busted for this in real life LOL! They are very serious about this retreat thingy if driving at retreat time, we used to have to stop our cars, turn off the engine and stand beside the car until retreat was over.   • I hate, the silent treatment. Cool down, to avoid saying the regretable, then communicate. When Frank stated he needed his wife to be honest, was the time for Denise to tell him about Jeremy. Maybe make him promise not to blow a gasket and let his son come to him about it. Frank learned about West Point from someone other than his wife and finds out his wife was being abused and that a senior officer knew about this before he did. He may feel a little irrelevant in his own home. Jeremy seems unable to face the consequences of his actions. Instead of proving he is sorry action-wise, he does nothing to earn anyone's trust ('talking' to Amanda). Denise and Frank seem to have had an unequal marriage partnership.         • The thing that got me, and I'll have to go back and look again to see if I remember correctly, was Frank did walk out when he heard about it. Instead of cooling off, he allowed the anger to grow and he threw his son out, not caring about his wife's feelings or even listening to her. I think Denise was shocked at just how much he disregarded what she was saying. She tried to stand up for herself and say that she was dealing with it, but he refused to listen at all. CJ's husband values her opinions whereas Frank does not seem to value Denise's. Denise gave Jeremy the same ultimatum about kicking him out of her home and would change the locks.     • Two statements come to mind. One, when Jeremy says he has been the man of the house since he was 7 and two Denise stated I have raised a son who hits his mother. Jeremy's told his Mom she had time to help her friends but not him, that she doesn't listen to him. Denise tolerated his abuse and was the primary parent in Jeremy's upbringing. I agree with her that it is her problem to fix. She obviously did not pick up on her son's growing anger and with Frank gone I am wondering what distracted her from seeing her son was in serious need of help. They were happy in their little perfect 1940's traditional cocoon until their son got sick of his father's dictatorship and didn't know how to handle his anger. Denise is too sweet to show her anger so he didn't learn anger management from her, and Frank's household was being ran the way he wanted so he didn't have any anger to manage either.         • An abusive nature and abusive behavior are two different things. Frank has the discipline to never hit a woman, but he's a hothead. Look at the way he pulls away from Denise in Anger and sort of shoves her back in the preview. Frank has all the marks of someone who would be abusive had he not the self discipline. He expects that same self discipline from his son, but was never around to teach it to him. And it looks like Denise didn't think she'd have to. The abuse only started 6 months before the premiere. It's a relatively new developement, and it looks like Denise missed the signs along the way that pointed to raising an abuser. Most people miss the signs because they can't fathom it ever happening. Frank is domineering and dismissive of her feelings. They've probably never been in this situation before. She wouldn't be afraid of him. She wouldn't see that those are the marks of an abuser. There are many people who have a tendency and choose to suppress it. I think before now Frank suppressed his tendency to lash out. He didn't need to show it. Now he's showing it, but choosing not to be an abuser. Some people are too gentle natured to be an abuser, and others just choose not to be though they could easily be that way. LOL Ok IMO, Jeremy got what he deserved.. he is not some kid-he is 18-old enough to vote/enlist/drive... there was SO NO excuse for hitting his mother... I think Frank was pi$#ed b/c of what he did to his mom. Frank I believe would hurt anyone who hurt his family. I think Frank does run a tight ship but maybe thats what it takes for the military life.   LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Lifetime Television has green-lighted a second season of its hit drama "Army Wives."
  
  The network has ordered 13 episodes of the series for Season 2, which will begin in the spring.
  
  "Wives" has become a breakout hit under Lifetime Networks entertainment president Susanne Daniels, who joined the network in September 2005. It ranks as the highest-rated series in Lifetime's 23-year history, averaging 3.6 million total viewers at 10 p.m. Sundays. The show -- which debuted June 3 to 3.5 million viewers, the most ever for a Lifetime series premiere -- also stands as the top new cable drama of the year among the female demographic age groups of 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54.
  
  "Wives" is just one of three scripted series that Lifetime is debuting this summer as part of an ambitious original programming strategy. The other two -- "Side Order of Life" and "State of Mind"-- are receiving a good deal of attention as they head into their premieres at 8 and 9 p.m. Sunday, respectively, which will give Lifetime a three-hour block of original programming that night.
  
  "It couldn't have happened better that 'Army Wives' created a platform of viewers and momentum for 'Side Order' and 'State of Mind,"' said Daniels, who is expected to make the announcement about the "Wives" pickup on Thursday (July 12) during the network's portion of the Television Critics Assn. summer press tour at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills. "We were just lucky to have a new show hit so fast."
  
  For Daniels, the performance of "Wives" is a nice reward to cap off "two years of really hard work" since she joined the network. The first two scripted shows she green-lighted to air -- the comedy "Lovespring International" and the drama "Angela's Eyes" -- didn't make it to a second season.
  
  "There was a lot of thinking that went into 'Army Wives' with the hope of it being a success," Daniels said, praising the production team, production values and cast, among other elements. "We felt that the show represented a point of view that wasn't on the air right now, and we thought that was what Lifetime should be doing (to make itself) distinct."
  
  The series, which features an ensemble cast including Kim Delaney and Catherine Bell, is based on the book "Under the Sabers: The Unwritten Code of Army Wives," by Tanya Biank, who serves as a consultant.
  
  Year to date, Lifetime is tied for third among all basic cable networks in primetime household ratings. In June, it was up 33 percent in women 18-34 and 13 percent in women 18-49 over a year ago.

  One of the comments Frank made was that Denise & Jeremy had lied about how their life, in general, was fine.
  
  As a wife & mother, Denise would have to make decisions on what to tell Frank when he is deployed in a field of battle. She would also have to choose what NOT to say, as well.

  • Yes, absolutely they were working on it and it all started with Denise taking her control and strength back and telling Jeremy how it is. I loved how Denise started it off by telling Jeremy how much she loved him and then said "But" and told him how it was. The look on his face said he knew she meant business.     • IMO Frank acts the same whether he is on duty or at home, a military man who runs his home the same way he runs his troops. (an ex. is from the first ep. when he's addressing Jeremy about being late,"stand up when I'm talking to you", "you're dismissed"), telling Denise not to coddle him when she wasn't, she was just trying to tell Frank how it is. Frank loves Denise but he also likes to be in "command". I think another poster said it well when they said they think Denise picks her battles and let's the rest go and walks on eggshells.   • I think Denise was working very hard in forgiving Jeremy, and Jeremy was working hard to restore his mother's trust in him. They weren't there yet, Denise was still a little reserved with Jeremy (as she should be) but I do think Frank's early return "upset the apple cart" so to speak. Frank IMHO runs his house like he runs his soldiers, & Denise & Jeremy are just that, soldiers under his command. I think Frank has a hard time separating the two....that's not to say he's not in love with Denise, but as someone said below he doesn't treat Denise as an equal partner, & Denise to a fault, has allowed herself to be used as a doormat, like was also said, picking her battles & remaining silent probably most of the time. Denise was laying the groundwork on how she expected to be treated in the future, Jeremy was beginning to realize that he could no longer use his mother as a punching bag, but what's he going to do with all that pent-up anger? He goes to Michael for help and is put on hold until he tells his father. Denise had asked him why he kept doing this? No one is coming up with alternatives for the kid. • Putting aside the events of the last episode, I'm wondering about the reasoning behind Jeremy's anger problems. OK we've touched on a few reasons already, but I've been thinking about something else. Jeremy's expression when Denise and Frank were saying good bye, really sticks in my mind. Was he jealous or angry, or was it just normal teenage disgust that your parents still kiss in public? I read a quote that said the children of true lovers are always orphans, which I take to mean that an intense relationship between a couple will shut out their children. D&F seemed intensely in love at that stage, was Jeremy jealous of this, angry that his father could express his love for his mother, but not him.   • Jeremy doesn't like the way his father dictates, and he resents his mother for not seeing the dictatorship and for backing his father. He doesn't have anyone in his corner. Even when Denise said he should go to WestPoint for the education, I think he thought that she was trying to get him to go just to placate his father. Where she may have been sincere, he may have thought she just didn't want the conflict with Frank so tried an argument to get Jeremy to go through the back door. • I am really enjoying the choice of background music on this show. It is really showcasing some artists that aren't that well known (to me at least). The song 'Broken Heart' playing last week at the beginning when CJ went to the lake and at the end as she said her speech, really touched me. The melody was hauntingly beautiful. Anyone else loving the music on the show? The part in the lyrics that goes 'Cause your troubles like a flood raging through your veins. No amount of love's enough to ease the pain.   I have been noticing something that I didn't notice before today while I was searching through clips for pictures.In the scene where Denise is saying goodbye to Frank Jeremy is there and then he walks away to let his parents say goodbye in fact he turns his back on them to let them have a little privacy. Understandable for an eighteen year old boy. What I didn't understand is the scene where Frank comes home after he was hurt. We see Denise run to him all the while Jeremy hangs back during all the kissing and hugging and he waits behind the ropes until they wave to him to join them. Now even at 18 don't you think it would be first instinct to run to his father with his mom? It is almost like he wasn't sure if he was welcome in the reunion or not and had to wait for permission to join them. I don't know it just struck me as odd.
  And I have to ask this, I'm not married so I don't know what I would do in this situation, but would you allow your husband to throw your child out on the streets and not know where he is or how he is or if he has money or food or shelter or whatever he might need? Now I know he is 18 but being on his own was not something he had experienced yet. I am not saying there is a right or a wrong answer here I am just curious what people think.

I didn't feel the reunion was odd, maybe because I wanted F&D to have their moment, but now that you mention it....As for F throwing J out, I don't see how F feels he can seperate a child from his mother, but I think Denise was powerless to stop it. You would assume he would have friends, somewhere to go, most teenagers doI am a mother and married, but my child is younger and it's difficult to place myself in Denise's shoes.   • I doubt that Frank would have been so drastic had this been a one time occurence. In fact Denise herself had threatened to call the police and change the locks. If it was in the middle of winter, if he lived in a dangerous part of town, I might be more concerned. There's probably a chaplain on post or someone he could appeal to, to spend the night. The Holden's come to mind. Michael had said he would help him only if he told his father. He had options. If he was resourceful enough to think he could get away with hitting his Mom he could come up with an overnight plan and figure out a way to contact his Mom the next day. Deep down he must know she would not leave him in the lurch and would have found a way to help him. Denise could have run after Jeremy or told her husband if he goes, I go. • Wow .. this really picked up some conversation! I'm extremely worried about Frank and Denise, their relationship seems to be diminishing.. I sure hope they can pull it back together, they used to have such a sweet and caring relationship! I also think the different ways they were brought up are effecting them , we know Denise was brought up in the army and was used to have a man in control of the house but we haven't heard about Frank's upbringings.   his father said following in his footsteps, being the boss and protector of the wife. Also I do not blame and judge him for his reaction, he was protecting his wife.. his sweet, considerate wife who has never done any harm to anyone or anything. I think The stress and trauma of the accidnet is also cutting in creating more anger and confusion. I disagree with the comments of him not being a good father except for him saying his son is dead to him. Jeremy is a man and he needs to start acting like it, he is trying to get him on the right path in life.

  • I don't think its diminishing, but is of course estranged at the moment. We all go through bumps in life, & hopefully this bump will not fester for too long. I think Frank's problem was he treated his son like a soldier, & given the long strings of deployment, Frank may of expected too much from Jeremy (man of the house)....Jeremy still deserved to have his clocked cleaned IMHO, but by Denise, not Frank. Jeremy's actions were not a slight on Frank as Frank is making it out to be, Denise was his victim. Denise stood up to Jeremy & they were working on their relationship.   The young man that plays Jeremy and the young lady that plays Amanda are both 23 years old in real life. And Sally Pressman who plays Roxy is 26 years old. These three actors are only three years apart...LOL.
  
  I also have had alot of people comment to me and some on a couple of the other boards, wondering whether Jeremy is Denise's real son or stepson. They said that Catherine looks way too young to have a kid that old...LOL.

  • AW showed how CJ was affected. Not sleeping and going for a walk. Roland actually had the guys blood on him and his look of shock and horror said it all ,at the time. I hope he is talking to one of his colleagues about this. His wife is in no condition to help him and is away. The person he shared the experience with he is not returning her calls. He just heard the horrific story from a stranger and he has told his wife he would have tried to save the little girl.   • I think from the outside looking in, the Sherwood's were the postcard of the "perfect" Army family. Strong, honor-bound military man (Frank), supportive, strong, loyal military wife (Denise) & son being groomed for a future in the military. From the outside, the Sherwood's appeared to have it all, & I think its an image both Denise & Frank worked on potraying if that makes sense. • Ok wont say anything except I hate Lifetime for getting me sooooo addicted to their phenomenal new show!!!!!! CB JUST HIT IT OUT OF THE PARK TONITE....   Wow! Lifetime sure has advertised this show! They have done a nice job of repeating episodes and promos for tonight's epiosde. They have had two "Army Wives marathons" and it seems everytime I have Lifetime on they are advertising this show. I think they have a bigger hit on their hands than they anticipated.     • This is such a great vehicle for CB as it showcases a different side of her. JAG was an in your face type of strength whereas AW is more of a self realization that she has an inner strength. It's nice seeing CB in civvies too. She is fortunate too, that many colours seem to suit her. I'm enjoying seeing her in something other than Marine Green LOL!   • Well, I read a comment by Katherine Fugate that it's already renewed. She made the comment that she wanted to write a 2 part guest episode for her friend that was on Zena Warrior Princess during Season 2.   • Well we always knew that telling Frank was going to be the hardest....but I liked in the preview Denise standing up to Frank & telling him its between her & Jeremy & if she can learn to forgive....Denise is coming into her own IMHO....The show just keeps getting better & better...I loved Denise's telling Jeremy how she & Frank met, & then at the end it was a little thing but when the children had finished their song you got a quick pan of Denise, with her smiling & saying beautiful.     • Well Twinny, I have to say you said it all for me. I agree totally that Denise is definitely coming into her own and I think we'll see much more of this in future episodes. This was just another all around amazing episode and I too thought it was so cute how Denise told Jeremy how she and Frank met. I was a little saddened for Jeremy when he said that he's so happy his father is coming home and that his father loves his mother very much. He said nothing about himself and his father.           • It was such a little thing, maybe something that was overlooked, but I picked up on the "beautiful" comment right away, & I guess since we've seen Catherine & Gemma together that's the first thing that came to my mind, her even though it was the character, it was Catherine the mother shining through. Yeah when Chase turned around to look at Pamela, you could tell he so wanted to come back & wrap her in his arms, but he couldn't.   • Well said Twinnies. Love that the show isn't sappy. The music, words, acting are so well blended, the emotions just genuinely creep up on you. Love the healing occuring on all fronts this week. Nothing is cut and dry, black or white. So many factors tempt, test, and tug at one's beliefs. This cast is fantastic. They all have weaknesses they are trying to overcome. Love the way they support, teach and go to bat for each other. Most of all I like the way they try to forgive. Grudges and misunderstandings contribute to alot of the world's woes. Although CB was not at the forefront this week she made her usual impact. She really is gifted with screen presence. I look forward to the Sherwood household dynamics next week.     • I know Roxy has to be "out" there, but you could have her wear halter tops & achieve the same effect IMHO...Its not necessary to have her bra straps (and different colors they are) showing every episode, that to me is pretty trashy, & I would think on an Army Post someone "might" have something to say about it.       • Maybe exposing the bra straps is the female version of the guys that go around with their low riding pants and exposed underwear. Just a thought/observation, not condoning or condemning. I hear what you ladies are saying but am noticing that trend especially on the tennis courts when the sports bra does not match the neckline of the top. It will be interesting to see if Roxy's character evolves too in the series. Usually stuff like that makes me raise my eyebrows a bit but somehow on Roxie it just seems liberating.   • This was another terrific episode and I loved the interaction between Denise and Jeremy and Denise and Claudia when Claudia comes to tell Denise that Frank is alive. Good stuff and loved the speech at the end. I have to agree with the whole bra thing and her jean skirt is scary as well..lol. She needs a new wardrobe.   • Really suprised at how good this show is, hate to say it I'm loving it more than Jag (shock, horror!). The characters are just so real and I like all of them, which is unusual as there's usually one that grates. As for Roxy, if we try try to change her, then she won't be Roxy...like she says to Trevor, "difficult is how I am" (or whatever). Next weeks episode is going to be a cracker, altho' I feel for Denise as it's all going to heap on her shoulders :(.     • What I love about AW vs.J AG is that in JAG, Mac's strength was always being undermined, be it in the courtroom, in relationships, or in gaining the respect of CO's. Contrarily in AW she is continually growing. You can see the character becoming more and more empowered each week. Sarah had an outward strength whereas Denise's strength has been more internal, thusfar. It's only in it's infant stages but AW has managed to keep it's quality up there week after week. I'm so looking forward to the Denise/Frank/Jeremy arc. What Claudia said about growth but not necessarily together is so true. I think Frank will be surprised by his wife becoming more vocal.       • Nothing will ever replace JAG for me, & Mac will always be my favorite character that Catherine has potrayed. But I like Denise too, & am liking her more each week as she unravels & starts finding herself. I agree that I think there's going to be a little conflict with Frank, because Denise isn't going to be the "little wife" he left behind who I believe for the most part in their marriage was seen & not heard.       • Excellent post Jubellant! I couldn't agree more with your analogy between the two characters. I'm really looking forward to Denise/Jeremy/Frank story arc as well and it is going to be great seeing Denise continue to grow and evolve for the rest of the season. I think that's one of the differences in my opinion between JAG and Army Wives, in that on Army Wives, everyone is written so well and so unique in their own way and one isn't made to look bad or be belittled to make the other look better.
