Subject: There is never only one person to blame for a messed up kid. There's also no single incident to blame. We are all the sum of our experiences, it's how we react to those experiences that matters. Yes they should have asked him what he wanted more instead of directing the course of his life for him. Yes they should have seen his frustration, but how many of us had incredibly frustrating circumstances in our lives? And how many of us kicked someone's teeth in because of it? The blame lies with Jeremy primarily because he carried out the action being of sound mind. The blame for the frustration lies with his parents.
In reply to: Jubellant 's message, "I've been pretty hard on Jeremy for his abuse towards Denise. If I was to believe Amanda that he was a kind a funny child then maybe I should really be pointing a finger towards his parents for ignoring his frustrations for so long that they built into a rage leading him to eventually strike out. Any thoughts on this theory?" on 15:22:14 07/20/07 Fri

[> You know I actually found out recently that sadly one of my students' older brothers has hit his mom repeatedly... I think that Frank and Denise are good parents and yes they may be tough on him (Frank especially) but that's only b/c they care about their son and want to see him do well in life. Denise herself even said go to West Point b/c it is one of the best educations. I dont know this is a really hard and touchy subject and it has been interesting to witness thru these characters. But again bottom line: no matter how angry Jeremy was or could be still (who knows???) he has no reason or excuse whatsoever to hit his mother, just like my students' brother doesnt have an excuse. -- Kristen, 20:08:48 07/20/07 Fri [1]
