Well, after spending two weeks with the Yogi (and the previous week his attendant staying with us) I find myself really challenged. My rather attention-seeking behaviour, smart-arse comebacks at anyone being a bit difficult and all other such traits that I have developed over the years were pretty much exposed and queried.

Basically, if Im serious about my spiritual practice I will have to change drastically. But then spiritual practice is supposed to be about transformation. I thought I would just sit in meditation each day, gradually extending the time. It turns out that its going to be very different. i have to consider everyone's needs, put what I want to one side, spend time on the most demanding and difficult people (the ones I would prefer to avoid) and this would be at the expense of time with the people I like. That, and a whole load of other things. The meditation will just help keep me calm as people make trouble - as they will do increasingly. Whatever people do or say, I must remain calm and peaceful. I didn’t even manage to maintain that on the way to the airport, when someone gave me rubbish directions, didn’t allow me to follow their car, and then was very sarcastic that I got lost. Fell at the first minor test. Damn.

Hmmmm, this is going to be so tough.
