I didn't know what to think when Lawrence first presented himself, aside from a wee bit of mistrust that here was someone who was either going to rob Casey and Pamela, or was put there to "spy" on them by Joe Doherty. I think when we feel out of balance in ourselves, we are looking for the opportunity to redress that imbalance in some way and so we seize upon circumstances or people who come into our lives unexpectedly as a way of regaining our equilibrium. -- Cindy's Cottage

When we are first told of wee Jo's disappearance, and the brutal home life she and Robin shared, I simply thought it was by way of offering some insight into how he'd become the man he is today. That's it exactly. Just as there is some bad in every good person, there is generally a kernel of good in every bad person. I don't think Robin's upbringing excuses his actions as an adult, but it certainly goes a way towards explaining how he became the man we first met in "Scotsman's Lament."
